i'm really excited, everyone here seems so interesting. i'm not an avid writer really, and don't read as much as i'd like to, but I hope to 'grow', as you guys seem to say.
i'm not really good at picking my favorites of anything, authors, books, music.
but:
you can check out my last.fm thing: http://www.last.fm/user/brightstraight/
i just finished writing a paper on "Is There No Place on Earth For Me?" for my English class.
my favorite subject is Latin (much attributed to my teachers <3)

i've read all his books except haunted and stranger than fiction. my favorites are choke and survivor. is that what you said too? cool
Where is O-town?
There is hope, but not for us.
who here says "hope to grow?"
I'll punch them in the throat
I think she meant to say, "hope makes us groan." Find out how to say that in Latin for me, Sarah, and we'll make it into a golden plaque for above the door, or maybe a signature banner. Welcome.

i would say something like:
de spe gemimus
= about hope we groan
?
i'm not exactly a pro yet, so i would hire a translator before making a gold plaque.
Ohh, A New one! Welcome.
Where is O-town?
O-town is not Omaha, if you were wondering. It is the town from which O-town derives it's name. You know, that boy band.
if anyone was going to ask the inevitable themepark question: i hear the screaming from this one really big roller coaster in class, as well as the distorted groaning of dinosaurs from that 'Dinosaur' ride. they sound like cows.
I WAS thinking Omaha. Actually I grew up in a town called Oakland, which we called O-town. Or The Little O. Omaha was The Big O. We were too young to understand how hilarious it was to call something The Big O.

And Otis Redding ?

Sorry, that's a very nice sentiment, but it's a prayer for the liberation of aunt jemima.

I am late to the party.
Welcome!
I would have also said, "What is Orlando?" because I lived in Florida for 8 years and hit Orlando quite a few times.
Best wishes & enjoy yourself here!

I knew it. I had a little sister who used to like the group.

I'm from a burg and I cant think of any O cities around here...so I cant name off any others. It's sad. But welcome anyway
interesting :o
It's a clipped form of deus espirit liberatio de santa jemimus -or- "God free the spirit of our reverend Aunt Jemima." The spirit of the movement is expressed in this lovely artist's rendering, titled, "The Liberation of Aunt Jemima."

Scholars dispute why the ostensibly free and liberated Aunt Jemima depicted here still seems to be caring for massa's baby. Some say it's a nod to the sad irony of our limitless capacity for neo-colonialist imposition. Others claim that it only reinforces such imposition. But my favorite theory is that it expresses the truth of Jemima's not-so-secret relationship with Thomas Jefferson. At the very least, she's free of pancakes and kitchenly toil for the moment expressed in this heavenly vision, reminiscent of a Buddhist Tanka painting.
These are the things you won't ever ever learn in high school history class. Welcome to The Cult.
