Not another one
Hi. I'm Kala. I'm from Australia. I guess I Liked Chuck Palahniuk on Facebook and then became addicted to the author essays on this site and then realised how cool this place is and now here we all are.
I've loved Chuck's books since high school, when all us lonely kids were getting into the darkest stuff we could get our hands on. (Highlights aside from a bunch of Chuck's books included American Psycho - extra points if you could read the rat scene out loud without wincing.) I now spend most of my time in the kind of dead-end job that Tyler Durden warned us about, reading and sort-of-writing. I will quit this job and write full-time as soon as i have the means to do so and then life will be Magical.
So I just wanted to say 'hi'!
Who is Palahniuk?

Welcome,
Brilliant, more people from pleases I would love to visit. Just what I need to help my negative outlook on my current location.
Nice to have you aboard, though.

Welcome, welcome. I wish I had something witty to say but I'm running a bit low on the wit tonight.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
Hey Kala! Interesting avatar you got. Welcome.
Oh, you are all so lovely, thank you!
I am from Sydney! Have spent some time in Newcastle too, actually. It's not bad! Good lakes and stuff.
Hi Kala,
Welcome! Try not to get caught up in the idea that there will be a magical time when you can quit your job and then write. Write now as much as you can. If you need inspiration, Chuck wrote his first couple of books while working full time as a mechanic!
What are your hours at work? You could work it out to where you write full-time right now! 8 hours a day. and then just work part time at the job, 7-8 hours a day, to pay the bills and then that still leaves you with 8 hours for farting around and sleeping and whatnot. Do they even use "Hours" over there? Isn't it on the Metric System or some shit? Anyways, welcome.
Thanks, guys.
As it happens, my hours are pretty flexible. It's a research position that I'm in right now so even though the 9 to 5 thing is sort of expected, it's not enforced in any way. I guess my problem is a discipline thing more than anything. Also inspiration, I guess. (So, typical all round, then?) I have been thinking that maybe a change of scenery is in order. I think I'm going to move. Maybe that sounds drastic but I've basically been in the same suburb my whole life, apart from 6 months here and there, and it's getting to be a screaming kind of tedious.
How do you guys find inspiration (as much as you can 'find' it)? Or even juggle work and writing? I would be very interested to know.
I don't usually have trouble juggling work and writing. it's usually the stuff after work that gets in the way.
I just try to picture it as whenever I start writing or plotting is the start of the day. Whether that's at 3 or 6 pm. Then you work a full shift and go to bed, then get up and end your day going to work. then start all over again. so far it's worked with mixed results.
hey Kala, i'm also Aussie but currently living in the USA. Welcome to the cult.
what is that avatar? looks kinda black metal.
Thanks, Kit! That's cool, I'm hanging out to go to New York too. Do you love it?
It's a picture of Fever Ray, solo project of one half of the Swedish duo The Knife. I don't know how I'd describe her music, but probably less black metal and more dark electro... or something. Try this, if you like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F-CpE73o2M&feature=related

Welcome to you, too!
I'll just say hi to everyone as well, being a fellow Aussie and all. I'm Blake. I have had myriad jobs in the past but currently am unemployed after bailing to go travelling earlier this year.
I just signed up for the Clevenger intensive in an effort to actually improve my craft and get my ass kicked into producing some new words. It's scary and exciting.
I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody and letting the colloquialisms fly.
