Hey guys, Im a huge fan of chucks writing but ive never decided to join until now.

Reason im posting is i thought i would share something alot of you might find interesting. If its in the wrong place please let me know.

Anywho,

Trent Reznor SEEMS to be launching a publicity campaign for his new album Year Zero.

Alot of it is written in a way that reminds me of Chucks' writing style so i thought alot of you might be interested. To get the full skinny on it they have a discussion thread on here where they are constantly decoding the messages. Discussion Thread

If you dont want to read through almost 200 pages of people cracking the hidden messages then just check out these things for yourself.

I believe this was the first page found. They got this by using highlighted letters of a Tour Shirt. another version of the truth

These all link together in one way or another. be the hammer

MY FAVORITE: This one is an .mp3 file of the "angry sniper" which is what made me believe chuck might have something to do with this. I actually like this one for some reason. http://anotherversionofthetruth.com/audio/ballgameOver.mp3

Actualy i think is one was the first. "I am Trying to believe"

Let me know if u guys lke this stuff or think its just plain dumb. It seems to me like Palanuick and Reznor are quite familar of eachother from what ive read which strenghens my theory. Once again, Let me know if this is a good place to post this...

#4: Trent Reznor / Nine Inch Nails

If I hear one more bland, boring, whining, complaining three-minute shitstorm from Trent Reznor, I'm going to fucking puke. Everyone was so excited when it was announced that his next CD was finally going to be released, and to tell you the truth, I was one of those, waiting to hear what new, ground-breaking sounds he was going to unleash on us.

Then I heard With Teeth, and I drove an hour back to my home town just to punch my grandmother in the crotch.

Trent once said that he owed his entire career to one woman who emotionally hurt him. Let me tell you something, Trent... You're lucky that I was born who I am because in another life, if I were your girlfriend, I would have physically hurt you.

I am so sick of that same droning, looping, life-sucking background. I'm sick of the angst-ridden, dark, "I'm in emotional hell" crap that you spew on everyone. I get it man. I really, honestly get it. You're dark. I see that. You can stop telling me, now. The whole world is black. You're in pain. Your soul is scarred. Nobody understands you. You've mentioned that to us before.

Do you know why nobody understands you, Trent? Because you're 41 years old, and you still wear fishnet stockings and eyeliner. I'm not the world's authority on what makes a man cool or likeable, but I do know this: there is nothing more pathetic on this planet than a middle-aged goth. Nothing. You, my friend, have turned into the kids you used to throw rocks at in high school.

An actual quote from Trent in an interview with Spin Magazine:

"The three records have different focal points, or viewpoints: Broken's central theme is self loathing; on Downward Spiral I'm searching for some kind of self-awareness; and on Pretty Hate Machine I'm depressed by everything around me, but I still like myself. On Broken, I've lost myself; nothing's better, and I want to die. Downward Spiral was searching for the core, by stripping away all the different layers. But live, the lines aren't as clear cut."

Yeah. Thanks for clearing that up for us, you pissy little bitch. Why don't you do us all a favor? Take that same, monotonous backbeat you've been using for twenty years, break it into twelve tracks, rename it twelve times, and use that as your next CD. Don't sing on it or anything because we already know what you have to say. Just save us all the trouble of trying to find the point, and name the album Dark Black Filthy Fuck Monster Hell Mom Soul Hurt Cry Machine. God knows angsty little high schoolers would still buy the damn thing, thinking they're embarking on an intellectual and emotional journey.

His new album seems to be about the world and where it is heading. No one is forcing you to listen to anything. I personaly think its way better music than all the other crap being crammed down our throats these days.

Who knows. I believe its more of a publicity campaign. However there will always be meaning behind someones art. Music, any art, is a form of self expression and a way of sharing your ideas. What i think he is trying to say with all this and his new music is more of an awareness thing. Half the people i know at college are clueless about the world and their views on iraq are "Lets kill some Arabs!!! Blow the whole place to ashes!". I think he wants people to open their eyes more, take in all the info from all sides and process it into their own views. Not just be told whats right and whats wrong.

I figured it was'nt completely right but im a little too preocuppied to look up correct spelling. You got the point:)

Either way. This isnt even about his music. Ive only heard two songs off the new album and im not too impressed myself. I was looking for opinons to see if anybody else thought it seemed like Palahniuks writing style.

Transcript of "Ball Game is Over" - Angry Sniper [Source]

there seem to be a few mistakes but nothing big.
Note: The narrator overlaps with the sniper.

*static and ruffling*
Sniper: Test test... *footsteps on wooden floor* *window opens* In the old days if you shot a government spokesman at least you knew it would get on TV. There was more than one media outlit, the-they competed to cover the news. Today you've gotta start with something and the administration has to broadcast. *turns on tv/radio*

Radio/TV: Go to the *inaudible* by the sixth, now hes trailing by the run. St. Louis *inaudible*

Sniper: Step one: grab as much attention as you can--for as cheap as you can.

Radio/TV: Felch, misses up, fastball. >Uh.. did you see that commercial we did for the president? *inaudible* >I did. *indaudible* >Yeah, that's it, that's it. We had a heck of a good time on that, I *inaudible* he's a good man *inaudible*. >Off we go, on four pitches *inaudible*

Sniper: I was going to buy a little helio something I could remote-control over but it was going to cost me six grand. *laughs* So I found a pilot--I offered him 500 bucks to fly a banner we loaded one saying "Marry me Irene" when he left, I doubled back, I switched it for one that said "This is a bomb fuckheads. Wake the fuck up."

Radio/TV: Seems like some kind of small plane... seems to be flying over the stadium. Towing a message, maybe a message of love. Zack? you don't mess with love. *inaudible* The cameras on the field.

Sniper: OK, I called the authorities five minutes ago and I told them the pilot was a civilian, if they shoot him down that will be on them. Step two: Deliver the message. I got a job at the park as a beer guy, I needed the money--hey free beer, can't pass up anything free in this country. Free this, I poured beer out of a six of the mini-keg size, I put in a small explosive charge, I packed each keg with pamphlets saying "Your government, is poisening you." and latex balloons filled with silver nitrate--it's easy to make, and cheap as shit. Before the game I put the special kegs in trashcans all around the upper level. *explosions*

Radio/TV: OH GOD 'STAY BACK?' MOTHER FUCKER-OH GOD HE JUST WENT OVER HERE, THEIRS BLASTS EVERYWHERE! >Yeah-yeah-yeah... no-no wait. Shit *inaudible*. You *inaudbile* asshole, you fucking *inaudible* or something, well fucking call him dickhead!

Sniper: I ran in an apartment on the other side of Waveland Ave. leaves back and plenty of time to set up my bipod, and scope. Used to be a sniper, 105th Airborne Crusaders- Amen! *footsteps, noises of rifle being set up*

Radio: Ladies and gentlemen... Wrigley field has apparently been-a victim *woman screams* of a terrorist attack. The important thing is for everyone who can hear my voice to remain calm. You cocksucker *gasp*

Sniper: Hollow points have stopping power in close, but they give you more air-resistance, at long range, less reliable.

Radio: You!- Whoever you are! *inaudible* asshole, the cops are going to find you, and they are going to waste your skinny brown asses you hear me mother fucker?! Listen the important thing... is that America *inaudbile* does not *inaudible* these cowardly *inaudible* when we find you guys, as God as my witness!-*shot, dogs barking* Oh Jesus! Christ! He shot *inaudible* the head! *inaudible* Get up here jump motherfu-*goes offline*

Sniper: This range I use a light 50, the bmg steel jackets, pricey but, sometimes the cost of liberty is $92 a box. Step three: Punishment. These people need to know if they got on camera and they lie to America, they're going to pay a price. *gunshot, dogs barking*

Sniper: Bible thumpers in suits, and thugs who raped and killed America, I'm going to sit there and watch them hump the corpse. A nation that sees them for what they really are, is the only thing these fuckers understand *stutter*-force is the only fucking language they understand. It's not about money- it's not about money, it's not about firepower, it's about finding the world ahead. Credit card and a hardware store can make you a hero, you can save America _if_ you have the will. *morse code*
"Kill The President"

In a world without leaders, who'd start all the wars?
The world that your saving, will always be your's.

[Chorus]
Kill the President, listen to the voice of reason
Unify with that single line
Stop the man with the power of the government
A leader's not the center of democracy

In a world without leaders, who'd make people starve,
the world that we're saving, will always be ours.

Everyone says "Well maybe i'll make a difference",
Thinking they've got plenty of time
But you're squeezed a little tighter everyday
Finished before you can commit a crime

In a world without leaders, who'd start all the wars?
The world that your saving, will always be your's.

[Chorus]
Kill the President, listen to the voice of reason
Unify with that single line
Stop the man with the power of the government
A leader's not the center of democracy

"America, all your enemies come from within,
But you lash out so it is seen
Like some frightened child in an angry world
Or the fall of Rome
Your demise comes from your own
Your own hands!"

In a world without leaders, who'd start all the wars?
The world that your saving, will always be your's.

In a world without leaders, we might have a chance.
But we'll never see it, as long as there's...
Kill the president, kill the president,
Kill the president, kill the president,
Kill the president, kill the president now!

(lyrics by The Offspring, 1989)

I actually had this conversation several years ago:

Me: Hey, you've got a White Stripes 7" in here.

Indie Record Store Clerk: Yeah.

Me: But they play those guys on the radio. I thought you only sold music that wasn't on major labels, and such.

Indie Record Store Clerk: Actually, The White Stripes were originally on Sympathy for The Record Industry... um records which you'll remember releases a lot of garage-y music.

Me: Oh.

Indie Record Store Clerk: So how do you know what they play on the radio?

Me: Uh...

Indie Record Store Clerk: Having humiliated a customer, I have fulfilled my duty as an Indie Record Store Clerk, and now I must dance to the likes of Sleater-Kinney. Door's to your left.

When whatever-his-name-was recorded "Sixteen Tons" in 1953 -- that song about being a coal miner and how much it sucks -- the musician was labeled a communist and many members of the US government spent a week or so throwing rocks at his house, until they got bored and decided to get back to running the world and discriminating against colored folk. Music with a social conscience is not a new thing, and sometimes they're just using it to sell records, like when a company pretends to care about breast cancer*.

(* This probably excludes the Health Care industry, whom I really hope cares about cancers and breasts and such.)
