just another new kid...
yeah. I'm new, and I'm not sure what else to say.
I'm sixteen. My first Chuck read? Fight Club, which was a gift from my parents for my sweet sixteen. They're crazy. Since then, I've read Choke, Diary, Invisible Monsters, and Haunted. My personal favorite? Invisible Monsters.
I got my journalism teacher to read Fight Club and Diary, now he's addicted. In fact, he may be attending the Ann Arbor reading with me tonight. Odd.
My friends tell me I have a special voice I use when I'm talking about anything Chuck Palahniuk related. I refuse to believe them.
I'm looking forward to meeting people and contributing to the forums.
Cheers!
is it school letting out that all the youngsters joining up lately ?
its good to see so many youngin's reading Chuck though, the future might not be doomed after all
I don't think it's the way I speak so much as the way I sound...I guess I get some sort of sentimental, higher pitched voice whenever I quote Fight Club. Hmm.
nothing wrong with getting a little sentimental
karbunkle, don't worry, there's hope for us yet. It's the kids like us who sit inside on summer break and hang out places like this who will be people who do something...maybe...or we'll just waste our intelligence in coffee houses and chat rooms
hi welcome, if you like jopurnalism and chuck, you may want to try Fugitives and Refugees.
hi welcome, if you like jopurnalism and chuck, you may want to try Fugitives and Refugees.
agreed...being earlier swayed towards journalism also
Thanks for the tip! I'll make it my next read.
then make sure to pick up Dermaphoria, then House of Leaves, then Confederacy of Dunces, then Syrup, then some Bukowski and on and on and so forth and so forth ...
yeah your book list will continue to grow...and grow. I can send you mine sometime if you're looking for something to read and have been spoiled by Chuck like the rest of us

you have an actual physical "list" written down somewhere ?
My book list is already huge, what with all of my friends being total literature whores. I'm getting all of their favorite authors pushed on me. I'll take any other suggestions you have to give, though. I've got a long summer ahead of me.

Everyone told me I was miserable and the devil for reading miserable demon books and that I wanted to destroy everyone's happiness. I believed it until now. I will save the future!
Thanks for the tip! I'll make it my next read.
It's wouldn't call it journalism, but it's nonfiction and the man does his research. It's told in a very engaging narrative style.
Karbunkle: Nice list!
Everyone told me I was miserable and the devil for reading miserable demon books and that I wanted to destroy everyone's happiness. I believed it until now. I will save the future!

you have an actual physical "list" written down somewhere ?

whats a good miserable devil book for me to read?
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

whats that got to do with the devil ??
I'd love to see anyone's top 100, 50, however many books. I'd love to see everyone's #1s. Do it, karbunkle!
I must retire from the computer momentarily...I shall be back shortly with my needless imput and book list
whats that got to do with the devil ??
Nothing, but people who haven't read it or know anything about it said it was demonic.
I must retire from the computer momentarily...I shall be back shortly with my needless imput and book list
Yahoo!
I'm going to have to retire from the computer for the night soon...I have to finish up a final before I go to the reading tonight. Argh.

tell chuck "Karbunkle says hi!" for me
For sure will do! Although, I don't know if I'm actually going to be able to articulate properly in front of Chuck...
use your "Chuck Voice" superpowers
Haha, good idea. I can just imagine...getting all choked up at Chuck. This'll be good.
Chuck isn't touring anywhere near me, but I asked my friend to get Haunted signed in NY. She didn't know who he was and waited from 5:30 until she got it signed at 11:30. Apparently he was very nice and she was bitchy towards him. Then she felt bad later because she thought he was going to be a big fat sweaty guy like Stephen King (her exact words), and Chuck was all smiley and apologized to her.

what was she getting bitchy about ? the long wait ?
Aww! I'm draggin one of my friends along to the reading tonight. She's never read any of his books, and her only exposure to him at all is my babbling and the Fight Club movie. I'm hoping she's not all bitchy and wierd to him.
Off to meet Chuck! Talk to you all later...

i hear he puts on a helluva show at his readings
she'll probably fall in love by the time its over
what was she getting bitchy about ? the long wait ?
Yup.
now I'm all bummed because I don't get to go to any readings and/or signings...NY is like 5 or 6 hours out of here and that's probably the closest one.
You sound like one of those cool people who's actually going to stay! Welcome.
How exactly did you go about introducing a teacher of yours to an author?
Let the Controversy and Outrage begin ...
I am going to read every one of those.
edit: 87 and a half to go. I've read 11 of them, Metamorphosis but not the other stories, half of Frankenstein, a quarter of Pet Sematary, bits of the Crow, Poe, From Hell, and I might have read the Sin City, I can't remember which one that is. I have them all and read all but one, so I'm not sure.
I AM MARRIED
i didnt even realize it till after i made that up
forgot to bother sticking Fight Club anywhere on the list
whoopsy daisy

How "in order" is the list?
I AM MARRIED
How "in order" is the list?
probably my top 5 then after that semi-random order
Woah, I was a second away from reading Neverwhere. It got donated and I recognized Gaiman's name so I put it aside, but it was found and sold.
I AM MARRIED
actually my #5 could be an amorphous bubble that one any particular day be the spot for any of those between 5 and 10
theyre all gooduns
Chuck was amazing! He gave everyone in the audience roses, and threw plastic rats, hearts, and eyeballs into the audience. I got a heart. He read an unpublished piece called Mr. Elegant. He was very nice to me, and I was fairly articulate. It was amazing.
Also, he says "Hi!" to karbunkle.

sounds like you're doing good with reading. start talking around here and we'll be able to tell if you voice yourself well when talking about Chuck. You recruited other people...good job. Spread the word. Hope to see you around here...and welcome
