Welcome welcome. And as someone who is a super-noob to writing, and a super-noob to the forums, I can vouch for just how valuable the workshop is. I've been here 4 days, and the amount of information there is ridiculous.

I like Chris Ryan, he's a writer that talks a lot about War due to his service.
I am currently reading one of his book's titled 'Firefight'.

I've just started writing my first book but I've wrote a few short stories ect.

How do you join the writers workshop

Click on the writers workshop tab, it has a link for upgrade. pay the $40 and you have access to it for a year. All chucks essay, which are a lot. His Q+A's. Opportunity to be published in an Anthology.... etc.

welcome! i am new too! not new to reading but new to this sight. i tend to like to read a lot of weird sci-fi stuff.
that and i like to read books to my 3 year old son. he loves books about Halloween.

It took me a couple days to figure that out, because I never bothered to turn my head sideways and really look at the avatar/

i have many more. you should see the "head room" at my school. you just see rows and rows of random heads. sometimes they throw them in a cart and push them around the school. it's a little weird. my friend was pulled over by a cop and had her doll head chillin in the back seat, he had to look twice.

I don't think any of us are trying to write like him. I've only run into a couple instances where it even slightly reminded me of Chuck, and that usually comes from reading all of his books.

Join the workshop and I think you'll see that. There's some very good talent on there who read nothing like Chuck or the minimalist style.

My writing reads nothing like Chuck. A couple people in the workshop do but that is inevitable, you know, fan fiction. It's a great resource!

I have to turn off the mental spell check whenever I'm talking to the UK people. "Favourite" still messes with me.

I can deal if it's just adding one letter, but substituting 2 letters for one? Unacceptable!

Maybe it was just a typo and he meant to put an "s" on there, though?

I spell favourite that way but please dont put me in with the Brits.

Derek, I would NEVER loop you in with those guys.

I was actually taught "favour" that way back in 1/2/3 grade, whenever it was, so it's always looked right to me that way. same with "labour."
But "colour?" what the hell are you talking about with an extra U in there??!

The "u" makes me want to pronounce it in a way that rhymes with "sour."

it makes me want to add this kind of overly elaborate flourish to pronouncing it, like when you say it you gotta roll your hand like a model and draw it out.
Like "Velour." To where you can almost feel the word.

I had this argument with Frank over how to pronounce alluminium. He says I insert an extra letter to justify pronouncing it my way.

Also I say Route like Root.

Dont even get me started on tomatoes.

I say Route both ways.
