Just kidding. Hello everyone, I'm brand new to not only the Cult but pretty much everything fiction. I mainly joined this group to see if anyone could recommend any good short stories. I like things that make me feel uncomfortable and stupid, if that helps with your recommendation. Thanks in advance.

aw, man.. i was wondering what happened with this thread. it was here last night and then it was gone. meerk was able to resurrect it.

it's refreshing to see some ingenuity in a new member's thread. we havent seen that since nate joined. (note: i was NOT around when nate joined, so i'm just guessing at that fact)

welcome to the cult !!

stories:

here's one:
http://chuckpalahniuk.net/features/shorts/suffer-the-fool
based on if you like baer, i'll link you to several more online short stories

i looked for clevenger's noir titled the numbers game, as it is fucked up. but seems that's only online anymore via audio, which can be found here:
http://c2.libsyn.com/editions/24598/1723/CrimeWAV-24-NumbersGame.mp3?nvb...

this one's fucked up:
http://chuckpalahniuk.net/features/shorts/guts
based on if you like this excruciating short, i can offer up an entire book

and here's a couple of hempel stories:
http://www.nerve.com/fiction/hempel/offertory/
http://moreview.com/content/dynamic/view_text.php?text_id=508

and one of chuck's personal favorites:
http://www.pifmagazine.com/SID/413/

also, denis johnson has a collection of loosely connected short stories that is a gem title jesus's son

in fact, there are more extensive lists here..

so have fun, look around !

Welcome!

You should try Knockemstiff by Donald Ray Pollock. Great book of short stories that'll make you feel fucked.

Smile Enjoy the Cult!

There's more Baer shorts to be found on willchristopherbaer.com here: http://www.willchristopherbaer.com/misc.php

Also, here: http://www.nerve.com/Fiction/Baer/eyes/

(I personally love that one.)

Thanks guys and gals. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I deleted the thread, I just got prematurely impatient. I'm happy to see that the thread was Lazarus-zied. Yeah, well keep em cumming. I'm going to go sit by the pool in my apartment complex and read all of these recommended so far. It's funny, the thing that got me on this little short story train was when I found "Guts" and sat by the pool and read it. And I have to admit, I'm a little pleasantly surprised, everybody here seems to be outgoing and helpful. Thanks,
-Louie

i'll spare you what i know about it. read haunted and let it fuck with you haha good fun

welcome to the cult and get the most out of this place. this place is vast
and play with baer. he can fuck you up, man. in a very cool way

Was that a coincidence? Because that is just awesome, haha.

Yeah, and then I immediately gave it to someone else in my apartment complex, and then came home from school the next day to see him reading it by the pool also.

Hey, I didn't know who deleted the thread and I thought it might have been a glitch so I resurrected it. Anyway, you may find some more stories here to read by the pool. Smile
