Many of the submissions I try to read open as a (docx)? or open as unintelligible characters, squares and weird symbols instead of letters.
Is this just me? I have never had an issue opening text files before.
The Site and the Workshop are both undergoing a major, major revamp right now. Will look different and work better at the first of February--just a week away! At that time, I'll be recommending that new submissions get done in the PDF format, which is the most stable across various platforms. Just download Adobe Acrobat Reader, for free, and a PDF should look like it should, no matter the system of the person who made it.
In the meantime, check out Chuck's essays and read what you can. The current stock of student submissions will be wiped clean, anyway, and we start over fresh with this total rebuild that launches very soon.
Sorry, not sure what's going on there.

Cheers,
And Welcome.
