Yup, I'm new to this online community. I've always wanted to develop friendships with people with similar to myself! I figure, why not, might as well try... so here I go...

I first started reading Chuck when Lullaby came out. I knew he wrote Fight Club and it was on sale in Costco and had a pretty neat cover. Little did I know what I was getting myself into. I still haven't read Fight Club (I own it but I just can't bring myself to do after seeing the movie so many times. I almost feel as if since it the act was not done in the proper sequential order, then it's going to ruin the book) however I have read most of his other books, the exceptions being Rant and the non-fiction which I will be delving into shortly.

My attraction to Chuck's writing stems from my love of old Dark Romanticism. Hawthorne and Poe and their presentation of humanity, all of humanity, dark and light.

I look forward to getting acquainted with you and hopefully becoming passionately involved in rigorous discussion!

welcome madeline. read fight club, it's a good book and to put it on the backburner would be a waste. poe is also one of my favorites, as are matheson and lovecraft. there are a lot of threads on books here so just dive in.

Hello madeline, I agree with Damo, read fight club as there are enough differences between movie and book to keep you interested, although the film is a resonably loyal translation. I feel like I've joined the crusade in its final act here but read clevenger if you haven't already.

.

ive always liked that name.  two random nouns forming a proper noun.

i imagine, living in the northwest you'll enjoy fugitives and refugees

i'm from tacoma.  half of my family still lives there.

derm is singularly a perfectly crafted novel.  clev said he'd lose fans with it but also gain some new ones.  he's currently instructing a writing intensive here.  the class is about to start week four of the course i believe.  cool cat.  another badass (of the same publisher at that) is will christopher baer.  his writing is infectious.  devastating prose.  here's one of his first short stories:  Suffer The Fool

you can find others over at the velvet (www.welcometothevelvet.com) along with clevenger and stephen graham jones.

funny, how you view chuck's work is how he sees it, mostly that he's a writer of romance stories.

welcome to the cult.

Welcome Madeline, and its good to see that another big Chuck fan that has (like myself) not read Fight Club. Now I don't feel so bad about it (!) although someday I really should get around to reading it.

And I applaud your love of Hawthorne, because I, too, love his works. We're making high school English teachers everywhere proud!

Anyway, welcome, and I guess that now is the time for you to get on that whole "rigorous discussion" thing!
