Hello to YOU! Our newest member from the land of Japan.
I was thinking about this earlier and then decided, "You know what? The next time a Japanese person joins, that's what I'll ask them." But I don't know when the next Japanese person might join and I was a little worried I might forget my question, so I figured I'd be pro-active!
Now You, whoever you are, already have a thread in the new members sections to meet people, or if you're feeling brave enough you can still start your own and let some one a little more tentative about jumping in have use of this thread.
Anyways, my question is, Do you know of a specific point or time where Japan started to not be fixated on Giants, like Godzilla, Ultraman, Mazinga and the Shogun Warriors and moved more towards Tiny, like Pokemon and those giga-pets things?
Maybe it's not even a point in time when it happened but a psychological reason it did?
I've started to build a theory but I'd like to know what some one from the actual place thought on the subject.
In any event, welcome aboard the Chuck Palahniuk website, I hope you enjoy the experience.
edit: I feel like shit now because the whole time I was pondering this stuff I forgot about the whole earthquake thing and how you guys are still going through a lot of shit and pain.
I do hope you and your family are all safe and that things are starting to get back to normal by the time you join.
Pygymee! He was awesome!
yep him. i don't think we've had any other 'japanese in japan' on the boards since then.
i think he beat all of them, highlander style.
Pure awesomeness. I wish he came back.
I heard this on NPR a couple of weeks ago and it might be relevant to Nate's interest.
Konnichiwa! everyone from Okinawa, Japan. Im not sure if im the specific one your talking about but I hate to disapoint you im not actually Japanese. I am a US Marine who of course follows the cult of "Fight Club" and has passed my obsession with this masterpiece between my fellow service members (to include Marines, Soldiers, Sailors & Airman) and abroad as I have travled throughout Asia.
Insanity is relative. It depends on who has who locked in what cage.

Do you know anything about Godzilla and/or Pokemon?
welcome, pointless announcements is a good place to start, just jump right in.
That was pretty good. Those Murakami stories look promising.
This was weird to me though,
It doesn't really say who is referring to those people as hibakushi. Surely, they're not calling themselves that? Plus, as bad as the explosion was, it had to be a little fart compared to Hiroshima or Nagasaki.
I live in Tokyo - and while not Japanese, I'm a Godzilla (and other kaiju) aficionado from waaaay back (my dad got me into it).
Nathaniel, I'm not sure about the tiny stuff, but there are some theories I've heard about the relative size and destructive power of kaiju like Godzilla and Gamera that relates back to the horrors of World War 2, esp. Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This is a pretty scratching-the-surface response, but may give you something to explore further?
