Hey everyone.

I've been lurking here for a little while, and I finally decided I would make an account and introduce myself.

I am 19 years old and currently finishing my first year as a Fine Art major. I am one of those typical "starving artists" and I compulsively spend too much money on art supplies and books. Especially since I work at a book store.

Some of my favorite authors include Chuck Palahniuk, Bret Easton Eliis, Douglas Coupland, David Sedaris, Charles Bukowski, Kurt Vonnegut, Irvine Welsh, Ken Kesey, and Amy Hempel.

I'm not really sure what else to say...
so I'm going to just leave it there.

Feel free to ask me anything.

Today is Saint George's Day. It's a (Catalan? Spanish? European? Exclusive-to-my-Family?) tradition where the parents get kids books and lovers get roses for one another and other things... it's also Shakespeare's birthday.

Anyway, my parents have to get me a book today. You work in a bookstore, what would you recommend? Something kind-of-recently released, preferably.

The first four authors you mentioned make up four of my current top five favorites. Welcome!

Hmmm..
It really depends what kinds of books you're into.

Some newish books that I have been eyeing are:
-Little Bee by Chris Cleave
-Caught by Harlan Coben
-Await Your Reply by Dan Chaon

However, I haven't read any of these yet. I have been reading mostly classics lately and haven't had a chance to read many new releases.

Thank you! I shall Amazon them now.

I'm afraid we're going to need to see some evidence of your "lurking" before you can be allowed to fully participate. What can you tell us about any of us that you've learned from lurking?

I've mostly lurked around the Book Club threads..
so I haven't really learned much except for what books you guys read.

But I have had the ... err.. pleasure of viewing the dress down thread.

Fuck Me again! Wrong thread. Someone needs to start a Lionel Richie tribute thread already.
