Hi, I've been a lurker for months, but I decided to finally join! I'm a big Chuck fan! It's hard for me to find like-minded people where I live, so it'll be nice to discuss things with you guys.

I've been pretty interested in writing, but haven't been really serious about getting started. I'm a novice, but I'm looking forward to soaking up everything I can here.. as far as critiquing what I'm reading, and tips for getting started with my own work.

Pretty excited about getting this going! Greetings to all of you!

Hey guy. It's Paul, right? No one really answer these questions properly so I will copy/paste.

Favorite Palahniuk book?

Besides him, who are your favorite authors?

What kind of music do you listen to?

What's your favorite movie?

How old are you?

What timezone do you live in?

What is your favorite baby animal?

Would you say you're a spiritual person?

Pies or cake?

Flip-flops or strappy sandals?

E-readers or physical books?

  • If you answered e-readers to the previous question then answer this one - If a Kindle and a Nook fought in a dark alley, who would survive?
  • If you answered physical books then answer this one - If an anthropomorphic paperback and a hardcover version of Fight Club asked the same girl to the prom, who would she go with?

Favorite Palahniuk book? Survivor with Invisible Monsters as a close second

Besides him, who are your favorite authors? I like the entire Velvet group, and I also really dig Tom Robbins. I also just finished Abe Lincoln-Vampire Hunter, and loved Seth Grahm-Smith's style. Gonna check out Pride and Prejudice and Zombies next.

What kind of music do you listen to? I'm pretty eclectic. I can listen to anything from Prince/Bootsy Collins/James Brown/Quincy Jones/Curtis Mayfield to Madonna/Zero7/Sia/Portishead to Biggie/The Pharcyde/Immortal Technique/Joe Budden/Slaughterhouse to At The Gates/Quo Vadis/Electric Wizard/Opeth/Isis/Gorguts... just depends on which mood I'm in. I don't really care for new age country and praise music though.

What's your favorite movie? Mulholland Drive

How old are you? 25

What timezone do you live in? Central

What is your favorite baby animal? Puppy

Would you say you're a spiritual person? I'm an atheist.

Pies or cake? Cake

Flip-flops or strappy sandals? flip flops

E-readers or physical books? I have a kindle. I honestly don't know what I would do without it. I'm not opposed to physical books though. lol

That is rather an eclectic list of music tastes. Bravo.

Yay - somebody else likes Quo Vadis. Also, I get to watch At The Gates live next month!

If you feel like investing a little in your writing curiosity then you can't go wrong with the workshop. I'm in a similar boat to you, a year ago I hadn't written more than a page that wasn't for some school assignment or another. I was always interested though. This site is a huge help, you will learn a whole lot real fast here if you want to.

Thank you sir. Next time I get paid I'm definitely going to get on that. I love that Chuck is so personable with his fans, and he's willing to give us some of the tricks of the trade he uses. I've always wanted to write, but had no idea where to begin.

Like I said, I'm going to soak up everything I can here. There's no reason why I can't get this going. Like anything... where there's a will there's a way. lol

Yeah, I was a big metalhead in high school. I'm not so much anymore, as the genre has kinda stagnated, but I'll never grow out of the classics. Quo Vadis is the most razor sharp melodic death metal band I've ever heard. Day Into Night is a landmark album! I'd also love to see ATG perform. It's a shame they don't get their due credit here in the states. American metalcore has basically copied everything that they did on Slaughter of the Soul!
