Greenhorn
Seeing as this is the place to introduce yourself, I figured I'd dip in to say hi. I'm an aspiring author, currently in college and hoping to get into a university on a creative writing degree. Once I've got my degree, I'm going to attempt to write a book, and if it isn't successful, my backup plan is a mysterious and unexplained suicide (genuine or fake) to make my book arouse posthumous interest.
So that's me in a nutshell, I can't really think of anything else to say right now, other than I'm an avid drummer in an unknown little three piece stoner rock band, so I'll leave it at that.
who are your top 3 favourite drummers?
How come no bands use one of those huge marching band bass drums? I think it'd be great to see the drummer jumping all over the stage like the guitarists do.
Why wait?
Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
My top 3 drummers are: Ian Paice, Neil peart, and ?uestlove
Also I'm not 'waiting' per se, I'm still writing now, but I'm hoping to get a secure job as a Journalist first, to fund myself.
Also that marching band drum idea is great and I may have to use it.
As far as drummers go, Jimmy Chamberlin (pre-heroin overdose/narcotics arrest).

Who's in your top 3? I always love finding out other people's drumming preferences.
these guys are pretty badass.

did you catch the beijing olympics opening ceremony? Me and the rest of my band were watching it, it was mind-blowing.
They were at Beijing? Or was it a Chinese group doing it? Weird to see a group from Japan putting on a show that big there.
Oh no I wasn't saying that Kodo were there, I was just drawing comparisons because both have such amazing control over their rhythm.
John Bonham, obiesly.
I am really into The Greenhornes at the moment, therefore, you get a free-pass.
Welcome.

Like Matt said, Bonham. He's definitely top for me.
I also like Steve Gadd, Jeff Porcaro.. Billy Cobham, Tony Williams, Buddy Rich.. Cozy Powell. Hellhammer. Derek Roddy... there are so many great drummers out there. Ringo gets a bad rap, he knew what to play to enhance the song without being too busy. I think Dave Grohl did some pretty good drumming on that Them Crooked Vultures album.
Recently I saw a show of the Michael Shenker Group with Carmine Appice on drums, that dude is still a beast! He also had these drum sticks with lights on the end of them or something, they turned the stage lights out for a bit while he did a drum solo and was twirling them around, I've never seen anything like those before, but it was cool.
I'm not a Dream Theater fan at all, but it will be interesting to see where Mike Portnoy goes now.
oh yeah duh and KEITH MOON
what about phil collins?
Collins is a great drummer, but I think the whole "in the air tonight" poppy thing is often remembered more than his talent. I've always liked Genesis, the early stuff especially.
If we are talking show-pony drummers, I always love the original show off, Tommy Lee. He wasn't the best drummer in the world, far from it in fact, but what he lacks in skill he more than makes up for with some killer style. he just looks good doing it. hits them hard. throws in some stick twirls for good measure. knows what to play, much like Ringo. which is one thing i love about Ringo's style. He never over-played, which is what most drummers these days are doing. it's just too much. it's not a lead intsrument--sure, be good at your instrument, but in a band setting, the drums are a rhthym instrument. both Ringo and Tommy just play what is needed to make the song sound full and great.
Another great guy to watch when it comes to stick twirls and what not is Vik Foxx. Look him up. I don't know a great deal about him other than he used to be Vince Neil from Motley Crue's drummer when he did solo stuff and more recently was Australian girl duo The Veronicas' drummer. Fantastic to watch.
Travis Barker has some mad skills too.
Levon Helm. 'Nuff said.
Keith Moon, did we mention him?
Don't forget this guy!
Pete Best!
yeah early Genesis is pretty awesome, and not at all like the later stuff. More prog than pop. Foxtrot is a great album, Nursery Cryme too.. even Duke has good moments.
also, we can't leave out Bernard Purdie. Samba time baby!
Heck yes, Bonham and Moon.
Jon Theodore and Thomas Pridgen from the Mars Volta, though. And Danny Carey.
And Dave Lovering for simplicity.
Hi, Straye! I would say welcome but I'm newer than you, so... Awkward.

You had me at 'stoner rock band.' Welcome, from another newbie.
