Ello...
...from not so sunny England. Any other Brits on board? Would be nice to find a country man or woman who has actually heard of Mister Palahniuk. Nobody I know has!
Cool site, can't believe it's taken me this long to find it. Thanks to all thos involved in making this a place worth visiting.
About me. I'm Dan, or Danny, or Daniel, or whatever. Thirty years on this planet and there's no consensus to what I should be called. Feel free to pick whatever suits your personality. Long time Chuck fan, read the novels after seeing FIght Club, (Didn't we all?) Then read Fight Club last, about 6 months ago. Waiting on Amazon to deliver Haunted and that's the full set. F*cking amazing novelist, out ahead, and on his own IMHO. TS Eliot said that Dante and Shakespeare divide the modern world betwen them. Well they're dead, all three, and I believe that Chuck has this f*cked up 21st century world all to himself, nailed to a tee. (Disclaimer - Those wishing to disagree should point me in the direction of other novelists before shooting me down in flames! p.s. I am also awaiting delivery of my first Denis Johnson novel)
The details for me are that I am an uneducated 30 year old father of one, with this burning, insane need to write and write and write. Finished my second novel up last week and am about to start ripping it apart and making it at least resemble something worth submitting.
Feel overwhelmed by how much information is on the site, the forums, and its taking time to get to it but I fully intend to jump in to the workshops and get involved with the site, and more importantly the people on the site. Being not of the educated, and living in a town where there are no workshops or writing groups, I am pretty much isolated from other wannabe writers, from having my work honestly critiqued and commented on. Anybody have advice for the best place to start, then I'm all ears!
Bit dissapointed (after paying to join) to see Chuck's essays have been taken down. If it's within the rules of the site, the community, then I'd really really appreciate if somebody could mail me the essays, or a link to where I can find them. It's not like I won't be head of the queue anyway for the upcoming 'On Writing' book Chuck has in the pipeline!
Well that's enough about me, hope to see some of you around, and thanks in advance for any help and advice.
Cheers!

Well, you can smell your own I guess.
back on topic
as far as brit folks
that benny hill was one funny sunuvagun
Hey, Im 100% American male, and I love ya, Vend.
Hey, Mr Dan, welcome to the Cult. No, yes, the essays are down, but I couldn't save em yet the recaps are fulfilling if you use em. I too was poorly educated, but over the passed five years I've done my best to overcome that setback.
Okay, lend me your ear ... That is what the workshop is all about, honest feedback, with or without current Chuck says this Chuck says that. If you want to practice the Minimalism techniques, then read the recap your going for and write five reviews under that particular lesson, and then practice using it in a story. Then reep the reviews. If you all ready have a writing you need reviewed, then go to the Self Side and start there with five reviews the quality in which you yourself desire.
All in all, have fun and work. The learning will come anyway.
& Hey, I'm Kabol

Oh there's a fair few Brits here. Enough to make you feel at home (for example: join the Brit Group).
Sounds like you'll get a lot out of this site, not least the pleasure of watching the ongoing slanging match between Karbunkle/Nathaniel and Vendetta.
Welcome man from Hollyoaks.
Welcome Dan! You being a Dan and British makes me think of Jude Law's character in Closer, marvelous movie!
I don't get it! Why don't any of the moronic, boring American males like me?
We cool.
Welcome Danny. Feel free to wander around and take the place in. If you have the need to use the restroom they are located on every floor near where the water fountains used to be.

Thanks for the welcome everybody...Hollyoaks? Aagghh! Closer with Jude Law? I hasten the missus past it on our recent visits to blockbuster...not my cup of tea, but there will come a time when a man has to do what a man has to do!
As for the brit group, good point, but how do I join? Same goes for other groups that it says I cannot access, do not have the permissions etc etc
As for the slanging match. I just can't believe something like that would happen on an anonymous internet forum...
You join groups by going to your user control panel (user cp, up top) and under Miscellaneous click on Group Memberships and just choose which ones (if any) you want to join.

Huh?
Ah the Brit group, playground for casual snobbery. I loved that kind of stuff because I think that most of the American males around here are idiots. The problem is that a few members of the brit group are idiots as well, maybe not as frequently as the Americans but there are a couple of dim bulbs and I got kicked out for taking the piss.
I'm from Plymouth and I live in Cardiff, welcome to the board Dan.
!

Sarcasm.
Yay.
Take no notice of andrewz. The fact that he described The Brit Group as a playground of casual snobbery says more about him than it does about the group. It's just a place to talk about British things specifically without having to explain yourself to Americans and is friendly unless you want to use unprovoked hostility, smug smart-arsery, being an unutterable, creepy bore and rude, inappropriate questions about finance as part of your repertoire.
The details for me are that I am an uneducated 30 year old father of one, with this burning, insane need to write and write and write ... Being not of the educated...
^ ^ ^ This has been itching at my brain since this morning, and I never pin-pointed why. Until now:

This link was pulled from the workshop, which is vast and will take a while getting used to but so worth it because if you want to get published and you have a desire to work at your craft, with or without a formal education, you can and will do so with this site. Being new here, you probably don't know that Clevenger's career got a big push because of this site, and Will Baer's third novel was not only published by way of the Cult (and Clevenger!) but also his two previous novels that were out of print were also picked up and re-printed by McAdam/Cage Publishing. There are a lot of tools here. Use them is my best advice and my greatest welcome to you. I'm glad youre here. Again, welcome to the Cult.
