Well hello, by the looks of the 'last replies' this place has been a dead zone for awhile.
Anyhoo, Im Tarnya, i've been lurking around here for a couple of weeks now, as registration was down since the new site has been in progress.
Im finially here though! and it's pretty impressive.
I got into Chuck about 3 years ago, and have only managed to convert my dad as a lover of his books, but hey, one is better than none right?
Anyway, i'll quitmy yappin' and have a nosey around for awhile.
Cheers!

be patient, as old members are scared of new things.  it'll pick up, probably once the site resumes its normal speeds.

anyway, welcome!

im sorry, tarnya..   i thought i replied to this earlier.  i must have changed the page too quickly.  or something.  welcome to the cult.  have fun, and definitely look at the author shorts as that section has been given a boost of steroids with the revamp

so.. what other authors do you like and how did you learn about the cult

wadeb:  hello and welcome.  what other authors do you enjoy?  im and survivor are my two chuck favs.  before i read chuck, i was reading mostly star wars novels and the poplular like clancy and grisham and the like, and palahniuk was a nice change and got me into baer and clevenger who in turn got me into steve erickson and cormac mccarthy, ultimately richer texts than before

before chuck, i read, fairly avidly at that, but chuck's work introduced me to the well written, the well conceived.  his work screamed "welcome to the world of dangerous writing" and i said, "more please".

have fun and all that and hope to see you around

Thanks JKabul I'm glad to be aboard.   Actually I haven't read in along time to be honest, I recieved IM for Christmas and thats what started me back into reading.  I really didn't have time before with my career, but now I'm making time. I had forgotten how good it is to read the work of a good writer.  Awhile ago I use to read allot of Hunter S Thompson, but like I said that was awhile ago.  I'm definately looking forward to reading all of Chucks work and then checking out some other Writers.  One book I want to check out that I heard was pretty good was "The Fighter" by Craig Davidson have you read that and if so what did you think of it?

hahaha the homie richard the wickerman (member wickercat) has been campaigning for a few months now to get  that novel upped as a bookclub discussion choice.

no, i havent yet read it, but it is up on the list of books to get my mitts on.

before i started reading chuck, i was completely disenchanted with novels:  hadnt had a moving experience with the written word in a long while.  chuck was dangerous, his reads moving.  ill never be able to thank him enough for that.  and when i ran outta his books, i felt empty again.  then i found clevenger and baer, and all of the authors chuck recommended with each and every breath he spat.  and he took us back to the classics during the workshop--hemingway and fitzgerald, flannery oconnor, badass short story writers like amy hempel and mark richard.  and just wait until you can dedicate a month to reading house of leaves, or HoL as we call it around here

welcome and have fun.  also, consider the link at the top of the page for author shorts, including one of baer's first and chucks first two from back in 1990, and guts and well you get the idea

Hello everyone.
I'll defo check that area out, thanks for the pointer.
I've been browsing this site for a year or so now, as i've become some what obsessed with anything 'chuck' related.I found here through a search engine, Im sure i joined awhile back, but it turns out i didnt, so here i am.
It's been awhile since i've been on a forum, so having to get used to things again.
Im a big fan of Stephen King also, but can't say i've got many favourites. I've got a huge list of new books to buy, its just getting round to things...
