Another Newbie
I just wanted to say hi, and introduce myself.
My name is Anne Marie, born and raised in NY, and I'm currently living in NJ. My first contact with Chuck's work was Fight Club, the movie is one of my favorites. I just started reading the book a couple of days ago, after finishing Choke and Lullaby in 2 days. Obviously, I liked the books, 'cause I've joined the Cult.
Don't know what else to say. I'm so bad at writing about myself. Want to know anything else about me? Just ask.
So, I guess that's it.
Sorry. Hello and welcome. As a relative noob here I can say this place is quite a friendly board. Enjoy.

Nice to meet you too.
No merlot, sherry, or chardonnay for me. I'm not a wine drinker.

Ooo, that's cool. I didn't know it was Tarantino related; now I like it even more
What do you read other than chuck?

It's the Death Proof poster
.
I've read the Dexter books by Jeff Lindsay (huge fan of both books and the show), some Stephen King, some true crime stuff (Cannibal by Lois Jones and Devil's Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three by Mara Leveritt are a couple of favorites), and a lot of movie-related books (most recently, Rebel Without a Crew by Robert Rodriguez and The Kill Bill Diary by David Carradine). I've read a lot this year and I can't remember everything.
Welcome, Anne Marie.

York to Jersey? Isn't that a demotion?

You seem happy about this.
Sorry I'm late. Lobster?

I think this is why no-one sticks around - you and your bloody lobster! We need fresh blood! I had to marry my first cousin!

What are you saying? That my lobster isn't good enough for you?

I'd noticed the many new members didn't stay around much. Do you really think it might be the lobster? Perhaps a dessert food would be better?

I think you're intimidating people with your high-falutin' ways.

Maybe a plate of cookies or a pan of lasagne? Not casserole though. That's funeral-ish.
Hey, I'm very sensitive about my genteel mannerisms. But you're right, maybe the lobster is to blame.

Or it might be Thag and his flip-floppery. Inquiring after someone's feet within seconds of meeting them is a bold step over the lines of propriety.
Well we need to get this sorted out. Whether it's me and my lobster, Thag and his flip-flops, Corellion calling everyone a cunt, or anything by Spike, we need to find the source of this dearth of lasting newcomers and stem it.

No, I've just accepted the fact that I will be stuck in this wonderful state the rest of my life.
It's the black hole of the U.S.
Welcome!
I've heard those Dexter books are great. Particularly the first one. Been meaning to pick that up.
Welcome aboard.
Nice name.

there has always been a relatively low retention rate I think.
juuuuust enough stick around to keep it alive - right now though, I think the successful newb rate is slightly higher than the leaving rate.

Yes, the Dexter books are great. I'll be reading both before season 2 of the show starts and the release of the third book in the series, Dexter in the Dark (out this summer).

I didn't want to say anything, but I think the welcoming crew is just a bit weak. I might go back to telling people to go away, that has worked in the past.
[QUOTE=Mona_Sabbat;971746]Thanks!

Hi, welcome to The Cult.
Now Go Away!
Rad idea! They'll make their welcome thread like so:
Newbie: hi guys! i'm a newb lol so i like chuck and i want to be a writer. you?
And we'll be like:
Established member 1: Bugger off!
Established member 2: We don't want to buy any pegs.
Established member 3: *dismissive non-sequitur*
And then they'll go:
Newbie; you guys rul, i'm staying forever
