Amsterdam greetings
Probably, hopefully, not the first one, but a Dutch member has registered to the forum! (Applause and general cheering…no?...oh.)
Haven’t had time to do all that avatar shit yet. I’m sure I’ll get around to that sometime this century. There is just too much to read up on right now.
Oh and don’t worry. I won’t be one of those one post wonders. I have yet to find a kindred spirit out here in Amsterdam. None of my friends have ever read anything by Chuck, despite me throwing his books in their faces (no really!). And I’m getting tired of having the same conversations. Every time explaining what is so good about his work. So basically (enter string quartet) I’m glad I found you (die away strings already).
Well, enough sucking up for one post. As one of you political leaders once said (or keeps saying): I’ll be back!
(Apologies about my grammar and spelling. As you should have gotten by now, I’m not exactly native.)

Hey Y'all.
Have you mentioned to your friends that Chuck wrote Fight Club? That worked for me. Anywho welcome my Amsterdonian friend!

Oh, the stereotypes! Of course in this case they are true! Yes, we do have legal drugs. And yes prostitution is legal. Making the quality of both a lot better!
[commercial presentation]
Hey, what can I say? The system works. We don’t spend billions on the war on drugs (or prostitution). In fact we collect taxes from both dealers and prostitutes. And we have less addicts and juvenile abuse than most other western countries (including the US). And most importantly like I already mentioned: We have superior shit!
[/commercial presentation]
Anyway…glad to be part of the cult now. Still tons of posts to read through and news items and sound clips and…sigh…good thing no-one is looking over my shoulder at my internship. - I work for a nationwide television channel. Well, nationwide is not such a big things in a country you can drive through in 4 hours and has 15 million inhabitants…yes…most of which are stoned!!

So what television channel do you work for then?

rub it in why don't you, prat

Your prattle is worthless. Leave now while someone still repects you.

I neither desire nor deserve any respect. Well, of course I do but I'm trying to spare your feelings.
I'm sure there are a lot of things you have that we don't...like...uhm...
Oh, like we don't get to see the Conan show when Chuck is on!
@Sjoerd: I work for de VPRO. Maar het is maar een stage...

Another Dutchman! Greetings from the city of Breda, where we as of yet don't have a real fight club, because THAT was not the message.
What kind of school you go to dude? What kind of internship you have at the Vee-Pee-Ar-Oh?
Oh yeah and what's your age?
People flip out to fast here I gather.
Where in Germany bist du katzereefer?
living in the dutch mountains... (maastricht)
Mr. Brown: I do Social Psychology at the University of Amsterdam as well as movie and televisions sciences. Yes my friends that IS a genuine study and yes it does include mostly sitting in a cinema watching movies both new and old.
My internship entails that I write for and co-manage the website www.cinema.nl a site owned by both the VPRO and De Volkskrant. Any Dutch readers or people who like to look at pictures can check it out.
As to my age, I’m 25 and counting. Don’t know if it’s up or down though…
So far I’m still restricted to writing in just this section of the forum. But I’ll get there eventually…be afraid…you know the rest!

So, any dutchies interested in helping setting up a chuckpalahniuk.nl ?
hoi sjoerd. sounds interesting. what are your plans with the site? (what kind of help would you need)
Well I've made a layout and Dennis has given me permission to use some of the content of cp.net
But we'll have to do something original of course so what I need are ideas.
This is what I've got so far:
http://www.lemonshake.com/sjoerd/chuck/
http://www.lemonshake.com/storyline/ but then in Dutch
And I want some kind of content on Dutch writers, like Grunberg or Giphart, I think that will attract a lot more people.
hoi sjoerd.
think the site already looks great! (i am very curious about the latin text though: what is it? i have seen it more often in testpages).
what are your ideas about the goal/purpose of the site; who should visit it? highschool kids who want to find 'uittreksels' for their exams, literary scholars, fans of palahniuk and palahniuk-esque dutch authors, writers(to be) etc.
think it should be clear what the adventage of a dutch site should be. we can never make a better site than this one & all dutch read english.
k denk er nog wel ff over...
looked it up myself. it's a part from cicero's treatise on ethics, 45 bc. he and chuck don't seem to agree. if you take the first line for example and compare it to fight club:
Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit... = There is no one who loves pain itself, who seeks after it and wants to have it, simply because it is pain...
It's lorem ipsum, fill text, every HTML nerd uses it as fake text. You can check out the history at www.lipsum.com.
* dutch*
So iza, when are you online, haven't seen you on msn since you gave your 'msn address'.
busy protesting against colin powell among others
Sorry for not responding for a while. I assumed the tread was dead. I'd really like to help. Eventhough I don't know too much about building sites. I can at least help with contend.
Here's my msn. But I'm rarely on-line, since we can't install messenger at the VPRO. meelvoorjasper@hotmail.com
Does anybody know anything about Dutch translations of Chucks books? Don't even know if there are any.
Anyway, you have my sword! Well my pen....mightier anyway.

@feedmeacat: So, does that make you German or American. If you run into a guy called John Kendall in Baghdad say hi to him from me, Jasper.

i just read the dutch translation of fight club. it's called 'de vechtclub' and it has been translated by graa boomsma. i think it's a lousy translation; it completely ruined palahniuk's tone of voice & instead became weak and archaic. choke is translated as well: 'stikken' by irma van dam (de geus, 2003). i haven't read it.
Maybe we could do something with that. You know write reviews on the translations. Or maybe make our own...

heya -
I think a dutch translation is pointless since it's carefully chosen words we're talking about here. Kinda ruins the prose to have it translated.
Anyways, always interested in helping people, only I dunno in what fashion for the .nl site.
Btw Evil Boy, got friends at the VPRO huh? Good gid. :0
wow....while browsing the "New Members Post Here" section, I seem to have stepped into a somewhat developed thread that I am not geographically suited for, so - I'm just gonna say hello and bow out graciously - g'Day!
it's not the prize that makes the chase fun
Ok, I'll try to work out somekinda plan if I've got the time (busy busy busy). Also, if you Dutch people know people who are also interested in books (not Palahniuk per se) they can join to.
I've been out of here for a while...meaning I haven't checked in for a long time.
And I've also been going out of here for a while...meaning I've been around The Cult. Not ebough though, not enough. I bow my head in shame and now finally have a new years resolution!
See you around...
