Zombie Movie Recommendations
I'm recently getting into Zombie movies. Very recently.
I really liked Shawn of The Dead, and I just got Dawn of The Dead and I can't wait to watch it. (And yes, I know SoTD is a comedy and DoTD isn't). Night of the Living Dead was pretty awesome, too. I've seen a couple old zombie flicks with a friend, too, but I don't recall the names.
Anyway, I've been told I need to check out Zombiland and Fido (I'd never heard of it either.) I've also been told to never watch Zombie Strippers, but not with much good reasoning.
So guide me. What else that ranks high on your Zombie movie list? I mean classics to modern day. I need recommendations so I'll have something to spend Xmas loot on.
Running list so far:
- Shawn of the Dead (Seen it, but I ought to buy it.)
- Zombieland
- Fido
- Return of the Living Dead
- [REC]
- Land of the Dead
- Dawn of the Dead (original, since I have the remake)
- Evil Dead
- Night Of The Creeps
- Zombie Flesh Eaters
- Braindead
- 28 Days & Weeks Later
- Army of Darkness (Seen it, but I don't own it.)
- Colin
- Dead Alive
- Quarantine
- The Rage
- Feast(?)
- Re-Animator
- They Came Back
- Black Sheep
- Resident Evil(?)
- The Beyond
- Versus

[REC] . it's in spanish, but it was fucking awesome.
Zombieland was really good. God I'm having a brainlapse, I love zombie movies too but I got no sleep last night. I'll be back here as soon as my mind starts working again!
Also, are these rent or buy recommendations?
I'm so excited to watch Dawn of the Dead tonight....

Romero's Night of the Living Dead is a classic. I liked Land of the Dead too - it didn't get great reviews but I enjoyed it.
Oops, just realised you've already seen the first one. I liked the remake of Dawn of the Dead too and think it's worth watching as well as the original.
For more awesome 80s zombie films see:
Evil Dead
Night Of The Creeps
Zombie Flesh Eaters
Braindead
Return Of The Living Dead
Undead was a pretty good Aussie one from a few years ago.
28 Days Later is pretty great. But 28 Weeks Later is awful.
There were a couple of new zombie flicks at Fright Fest this year. Don't bother watching La Horde, it was rubbish. Instead check out Colin (I didn't get chance to see it but it's been highly recommended and apparently was made for about £40).
Braindead made me hungry.

I'm number 2!!
I'm going to respectfully disagree with Alex here. I loved 28 weeks later and 28 Days Later made me question what I could have done with $6 and two hours that wouldn't have lost me my movie choosing privilages.
Watch Army of Darkness, it's a classic that gets funnier every time I see it.
Bradley St Paul
I love Army of Darkness. That ones been a standby for years!
I feel like I should be compiling this list somewheres.

The end messed me up.
28 day later, epic. Not really zombies though in the classic sense.
also, Resident Evil isn't half bad, the first one only though.
the zombies in Resident Evil are like the zombies in 28 day.
opening scene of 28weeks is good, the rest of the movie is shiiiiiiit
Wow, that's twenty-four so far. I might need some help prioritizing.
This could keep me busy for weeks.

I totally posted in this thread last night and it vanished.
Anyways, wudya think of Dawn? One of the greatest films ever made, yes?

The wife hates zombie flicks... so I haven't had a chance yet. I'm chomping at the bit here.

Zombi 2 (its an unauthorized sequel to Dawn of the Dead, so dont bother looking for Zombi 1)
I'm somewhat conflicted about recommending Poultrygeist. I'm guessing based on not having seen DOTD that you've never seen a Troma film before. If so, this is not a good first Troma film.
thats why i said it was unauthorized
28 Days Later is pretty great. But 28 Weeks Later is awful.
Quoted for yes yes.
I watched Planet Terror the other night and it has exactly the same "angle the copter blades to kill the zombies" bit in it. Though they both came out in the same year, so I'm not saying 28WL stole it. Just that they used something deemed okay by a ludicrous exploitation flick pastiche.
(I also seem to remember being lambasted on here for saying 28WL had "plot holes" when what I really should have said was "stupid shit" in it.)
Rose Byrne is lovely though. It's got that going for it. (Okay, and the start is brilliant.)
Braindead (Dead Alive for the 'Merkins) is wonderful. I think that might be the most-quoted film of my teenage years.

"Your mother ate my dog!"
"Not all of it."
Oh and Zach Snyder makes THE BEST title/intro sequences of any current Hollywood director.
Dawn of the Dead and Watchmen, whatever their subsequent flaws, could both have ended at 10 minutes and I would have loved them forever.
Dylan and Cash!
28 Days later should be *right* at the top of your list.
Dawn of the Dead and Watchmen, whatever their subsequent flaws, could both have ended at 10 minutes and I would have loved them forever.
Dylan and Cash!
Are you sure its him behind the intro sequences and not his editor?
Perhaps I'm looking for a reason to like Snyder less, because I must admit I did enjoy the intro sequences of both films.
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
if by unauthorized you mean "isn't a sequel at all and has nothing to do with..."
If that's the case, then I'm an unauthorized sequel to 300.

If I'm making a film about the Battle of Gettysburg, I wouldn't call it 'Gettysburg 2' unless I wanted it to appear to be a sequel. 'Zombi 2' is not a sequel to DotD, but the title was used to sell it that way.

Well, to be honest I don't know. It's automatic to give credit to the director, I suppose.
I just love those intros!
You want the wife to really hate zombie movies?
This:

"...you want to be truly unselfish? Love someone or die for someone. Those are the only good deeds you can perform without any hope of personal gain."
This:

Yeah, that's the one that I've been warned never to watch by some folks at work, but they never said why.
Also... why am I suddenly saying "folks" a lot?

This movie is so bad it made me hate zombie movies AND naked women for about a week. Robert Englund is pretty funny in it, but he doesn't even approach making it worthwhile. Only bother seeing it way, WAY after you've gone through all the others. Maybe make it a Bad Zombie Movie Double Feature Night with this and Flight of the Living Dead with Sid Haig.
Has anyone seen Burial Ground aka The Nights of Terror? Its an italian zombie film featuring a horrifyingly ugly and old looking child who has an incestuous relationship with his mother.
A little before six minutes in, the mother tries to breast feed her zombie child but instead the child bites her tit off.

Bruce La Bruce's Otto, Or Up with Dead People. It's a zombie version of George Romero's Martin; it's a political film about gay rights; it's a satire of pretentious "edgy" film makers; it's gay porn. What else do you want in a film? LOL! Seriously, it's hilarious.
I'll second the Dead Snow; you can't go wrong with Nazi zombies.
[rec] and [rec] 2. i may have posted that up there, i cant remember and i cant be assed to look. dead snow for a good laugh.
Planet Terror
Pet Sematary
Evil Dead II

zombieland is a perfect movie.
original day of the dead.
remoake of dawn of the dead.
and my fav - return of the living dead.
There is a British TV series called Dead Set - I enjoyed it, if you can get ahold of it somewhere definitely check it out.

Zombieland is the only one I know.
"your mind can set you free"

Return of the Living Dead. Pure awesome zombie cheese.
