1. City of God (if we are counting it) one of the best movies ever.
2. Kill Bill 2
3. Enternal Sunshine
4. Lost in Translation( was it this year?) I can see how someone might not like this movie, but to say it is one of the worst movies ever, is a disgrace. That movie was excellent.
5. I guess Hero. I didnt see that many of the new releases this year, one of the shittiest movie years ever.

Wait, was 21 grams and Mystic river this year or last year? Those were great.

Someone want to tell me what oldboy is?

ive been fairly dissapointed with movies this year

the abso-fucking-lute worst would have to be aliens vs predator

but my favorite movie i seen this past year would have to be eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (i still think it should have been a book instead of a movie...fuck charlie kaufman should write a book)

anchorman had some incredibly funny parts but the movie was obviously mostly improved so it lacks a solid plot.

Yea Kaufman is a great writer. I wonder if his talent would transfer well.

a Korean movie that is mucho excellent.
If awards mean anything to you, Oldboy would have won the top prize at Cannes if it wasn't for that fat man MM and his Bush hating film. on the rumor mill, Holywood is set to remake it with Nick Cage as the star. All these remakes are wack IMO. They should just release a film in its og format. I'm pretty sure the international market doesn't try to remake American films. F*ing peeps should learn how to read...blah blah blah
oh I try, but if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Now then, Parkaboy... the movie, to me, seemed like the audience wasn't intended to get it. It felt like an andy Kauffman type joke where the actors and produces and everyone involved know that it's a failry well made but altogether boring, uneventful movie, but since the exectution went well maybe no one would notice. and they didn't. Critics loved it ad the average movie goer walked out of the theater scratching his befuddled head thinking, "if someone asks me what it was about... what am I going to say?"

Or here's another take: Maybe the characters were just too real. Just as if I could meet them in real life.... that's not entertaining and that's not why I pay eight and a half bucks to see a movie. I could get that in a coffee shop or a barnes and nobles.
People liked that movie a lot. For an indie it did very well. It cost something along 8 mil and grossed over 50 I believe. So, that's simply not true. As for the Andy Kauffman, well, like I said, you were weaned on Big Gulp movies so if it isn't fed to you out of a swirling slushee machine with winking diodes and an IPod complimentarily plugged into your ears your liable not to like it.
Well, I enjoyed most of those movies. (pearl harbor sucked) judge a movie for what it is. The Rock was cool, Armageddon was a great end of the world movie... (and of course, in this light, Lost in Translation redeems itself because I think the movie turned out exactly how it was intended, Ijust didn't like it.) And Bad Boys, come on... that was funny shit.
See, you've been corrupted by Movies-by Numbers. That's the problem, the shovel so much shit these days that people have a hard time dowengauging at all.

It's all hype-hype-hype and then cut and then cue explosion and then, shit is Cage's bald spot showing again?

Don't worry, we'll fix it in post.

And cut again.

Oldboy is a Korean gangster/revenge flick.

Lost in Translation, 21 Grams and Mystic River are all 2003. City of God is 2002 depending on how you decide. It was disqualified for the 2003 Academy Awards because it came out in 2002, but it didn't get to the States until 2003 as I recall.

And BTW, only Garry Oldman could play him. He kinda looks similar too, like after whatshisname gets out.

Edit: Ooh. Oldboy's already in IMDB's top 250 of all time. #114.
Boy LOTR really crapped up that list. I mean really. Is Return of the King the second best film of all time?

Yeah, they had good dialogue and no sensationalism. Imagine that!

Linklater is making A Scanner Darly next. Maybe it's already in the can. Anyway Keanu is in it with Rory Cochrane. Based on the Philli K. Dick book. If you like Charlie Kaufman stuff you might be into this one here folks. It's about a narc agent in the future who is taking a drug to get in with the suspects, but the drug (Substance-B I think it is) cause split personalities and he winds up narcing on himself thinking he's narcing on the person he is tailing.

She likes A Chrstmas Story and should watch it on TBS all day today.

I just saw A Series of Unfortunate Events... and it was kinda... weird. I didn't dislike it, but I think it was ... weird. like, maybe too dark for kids, not really "funny" funny, but not really good for adults either.

The Polar Express
Hero
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkabaan
Saved

I haven't seen much lately

there were movies that I enjoyed watching, even though they weren't made in 2004 such as:

Man of La Mancha
Love Actually (I'm not sure what year it was made)
Trains, Planes, and Automobiles (fuck) ha ha.. ha
Uncle Buck (I watched it before, but back then I hated John Candy's character and sided with the teen girl)
Cabaret
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (I watched it before, but back then I was completely bored with it and didn't get the humour)
The Pianist
Coffee and Cigarettes
Party Monster (how I love Macaulay)
The Cider House Rules

Good/OK Movies:
Ginger Snaps 2 & 3
Feranheit (sp?) 9/11
Spiderman 2

dissapointed with:
Norma Rae (what a bore)
Seabiscuit (what a bore)
Hidalgo (I only watched 1/2 an hour of it, then I shut it off and fell asleep)

movies that sucked:
Dawn of the Dead
Around the World in 80 Days
Walking Tall (Johnny Knoxville is hot, but even his hotness didn't save this "guy" movie)

there are more to list, so I'll just come back to it when I remember what movies I have watched through out the year

sigh. it's really not my favorite movie. it didn't have that sweet rushmore feeling. i don't know what it was. it was just... off... i'm afraid wes anderson is going to fall into that lynchian trap of making the same movie again and again in some way or another... formulas exist because they work, but it felt like tenenbaums revisited on a boat with beautiful special effects.

Yeah I fence lefty too. I was ok, no one in the class was really any good except for this one kid who we found out was a knight at Medieval Times around here. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, MT is basically a large arena that has these medieval-themed shows or whatever with a lot of jousting and fencing and crap. I've never been to it. But, this kid was a knight there so his fencing skills just schooled the rest of the class and he never explained why until the last day of that class.
