Who here is a douchey vinyl record collector ? . . .
Just got my copy of Electric Wizard's stoner classic, Dopethrone, which Rise Above Records finally reissued this month. I'e seen crazies on ebay selling original presses for up to $600. Right now a guy is selling a purple silk vinyl copy for $999.99

This is quite possibly one of the heaviest sounding albums of all time.

Oh, hey, second page...
i wonder if there is a correlation to "second posting" and "second paging" a thread?

Bla at least put the British superior cover up

Memories...
Sorry, but that's an awful cover. It makes it look like there's some kind of forest elf in the basement.
Blasphemy! plant experiments, I say no more.
Okay. Went down to the basement.
Couple of not-particularly-rare Neil Young's. David Coverdale's Whitesnake album from back when they were known as David Coverdale's Whitesnake. And a whole metric shitload of this:

Apparently I inherited my Father-in-law's Yes - and multiple related side-and-solo-projects - collection.
None of it in especially good condition.
Meh.
This week has been full of letdown.
This is why we can't have nice things.
That's far more Yes than anyone would ever need
For serious!
This is why we can't have nice things.
You can never have enough Yes, really. Can you? Or is that the hoarder in me? Christ, it might be!
Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
I think douchey vinyl record collectors call that being a 'completist'
new recorrrrds:

Sooo good.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I'm pretty excited to give that one a spin, I think I'll put it on while I do some sketching later
Are you very much familiar with the album? I would place it among my top rock albums of all time.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I used to be douchey, but then decided to enlighten a co-worker's punk sister and bestowed a giant box of doucheyness to her a few years ago.
The crown jewel of my douche box was a 7" single by Tumor Circus (collaboration between Jello Biafra and Tit Wrench). It was a beautiful record with the image of some crazy aborted fetus or the like as well as a giant hole drilled through it. A bright orange sticker on the sleeve read: 'A hole drilled through every copy so you can only own it, not play it. Isn't that what music's about these days?'
I also had a Negative Land piece entitled U2 (after the band) that was 'recalled' the day after it was released as Casey Cason's lawyers were suing the label. Apparently someone in his studio swept up a bunch of studio clippings of Casey being his true self; basically ripping on everyone calling in, wondering why he had to introduce the band U2 'who the fuck cares about these guys anyway?', and basically just dropping the F-bomb throughout the recording. All of which was sanitized before his show aired every weekend. The track with Casey's voice dubbed over and over again saying 'fuck Snuckles' after a fan wrote in to dedicate a U2 song to her dead dog Snuckles was classic. Wish I still had that one.
Last One Dead Is A Sissy
Oh yeah, I love it - though admittedly I haven't listened to it in a while. I think the copy I picked up is an original pressing, still in it's proper sleeve and in sexy near-mint condition. The problem is going to be trying not to dance too near the record player!
Total jump-up-and-down-all-around-the-house disc.

Snuggles lives.

Got some good ones recently:
This album is a combination of drone and jazz completely improvised while watching the Jess Franco film, Succubus.

This is a collection of live recordings from Down's '06 European Tour.

That Succubus thing sounds kinda interesting.. I'll have to check it out.
New records, courtesy of a trip to the Princeton Record Exchange:

I am pretty thrilled to have found the Eric Dolphy, it's one of my favourite jazz albums, and it's an original Blue Note pressing.
Aw man, they had 2 other copies, if I had known I could've got one for you!
I'll keep an eye out on future record store trips, if you like.
I listened to that Eric Dolphy album recently, now I want it.
Recent additions:
Relaxes the hell outta me.

Classic sounding Satanic Metal performed by a groups of nameless ghouls.

The priciest record in my collection. Waited 2 months for it to finally show up at my doorstep.

Comes in a fancy box set with a comic book, embroidered patch and giant poster of evil naked woman(with bush).
An Earth compilation of earlier works.

Awesome thrash album, the music is better than the horrible cover, which is so bad I love it. There is a label in Europe that did a "touch-up" of the cover with ink outlines like a comic. Not cool.

That link just went to a blank page?
The Dolphy is great. The vinyl sounds really nice too.
Since I have way too much time on my hands, here are my D-side etched vinyls:
shrinebuilder - self titled

grails - deep politics

grails - burning off impurities

earth - angels of darkness, demons of light 1

And the Melvins (A) Senile Animal 4LP:
Side b

Side d

Side f

Side H

Those are sweet-looking. How do they sound, though? Or have you not played them?
So, today was/is Record Store Day. I didn't get any of the special releases because there wasn't really anything I was looking for... might pick up those Ozzy reissues at some point though.
But, one of my favourite record stores was having a sale on all their used vinyl too, so here are today's purchases:

Tom Waits, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple! You've made some excellent choices there.
thanks Irina
I was pretty excited to find that Tom Waits, it's an original pressing and in really good condition.
Well those etched vinyls sound good on the non-etched side.
At my local record store I found a bootleg live recording of Big Black which sounds pretty damn good despite what I've later read about it.

Black Flag's My War, since I've been obsessed with them lately.

Neurosis' Sovereign, an EP of songs recorded during the "Times of Grace" sessions on clear vinyl.

Miracle's Fluid Window EP, debut project from Daniel O'Sullivan and Steve Moore.

And this 7" of acoustic songs by Scott "Wino" Weinrich(Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Shrinebuilder) and Scott Kelly(Neurosis, Blood & Time, Shrinebuilder)

So, I think I've officially reached the next level of vinyl collecting douchebagdom. I've been cataloguing the record collection on an excel spreadsheet so when my husband and I are record shopping we know what records we have, and what pressings. We have several hundred records, so things have reached a point where sometimes we turn to each other and say "Do we already have this?"
I catalogue mine in a mini composition notebook. I have over 130 right now. And you'll be douchey when you brag about the OOP ones that are worth something(on ebay at least). I have about 10 of those.

I couldn't do a notebook, I have to have them in alphabetical order for my own sanity's sake. I'm at 297 right now and I have about a shelf and a half to go.
Went to the used bookstore and found some gems.
The Jesus Lizard - Liar Picture Disc. I got a boner when I saw it.

Ennio Morricone - The Good The Bad and the Ugly Soundtrack

Goes great with that Good The Bad & The Ugly Japanese 7" I got a while back.

Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim. If there is anything better than this, I don't wanna know about it.

Nice, that Sinatra/Jobim record is one of my favourites.
These days, I usually head straight for the easy listening section and look for sexy ladies on the LP covers. I found a few gems which I may frame and hang up in my bachelor pad:

My GF is a vinyl collector. She has everything from Harry Chapin's Taxi and Cream's Fresh Cream, to Adele's 21 and Mumford and Sons.
I would dump her for the last two (well, really just the last one you mentioned), but that's just me.
agreed.
I want to get more cassette tapes now. Especially if certain releases are only on tape.

And especially if they are handmade like this:

What's wrong with Mumford? I think they're all right...
personally I think they're boring + overplayed + hate the guy's voice
I must've heard that Little Lion Man song about 500 times, and I've never played it by choice
I think they're a bunch of phonies. The music just evokes f'all inside of me; the arangements are really irritating and repetitive and the lyrics remind me of a teenage poetry competition entry.
i.e.
But it was not your fault but mine
And it was your heart on the line
I really fucked it up this time
Didn't I, my dear? (x2)Didn't I, my dear?
Ahhhhh......

I don't listen to the radio. So I don't notice what's over played or not... (Which probably explains your distaste for Adele too.)
And I think they're fun. Every thing doesn't have to be super deep. Why can't stuff just be fun? I feel like I'm starting to second guess every music thing I post about here because it always gets criticized.
But that's my opinion.
I don't even know either of those bands.

It's fine that you like them, but fun is subjective and Kit and I were only teasing.
Fair enough.
I don't really listen to commercial radio in this country either, but Mumford were really big right before I left Australia so that's where I got exposed to them. I don't think I've ever heard an Adele song, but I'm sick of hearing about her, whether she's fat or not, pretty or not, talented or not, blah blah. If she was a dude, nobody would be having these conversations.

*BUMP* to remind myself to look in my basement.
