No, I hate the amount of space my CD's take up, and they are in plastic bins in the garage...
You may find you find this hobby much less enjoyable when you decide to move
I'm going to see High on Fire again next month. I haven't seen them in years.

Seriously, that batch in the first post moved with me to Texas. Just that small amount caused so much stress. How to package them. Hoping they won't bend, hoping they won't melt. Hoping the jerkoff movers don't drop them.
And I waited 3 weeks for my stuff to arrive from Las Vegas to Houston, I was so paranoid about those damn records.
I can't even imagine moving now.
Saw them 2 years ago with Opeth and Baroness and saw them last year with Mastodon, Dethklok, and Converge. They are truly fucking awesome.

I love baroness. I used to be friends with Bryan and Summer, we all hung out at the same bar. Kylesa is playing with HoF here, I'm exctied to see those guys again.
I just looked and I guess Bryan isn't in the band anymore. Shitty. I had the hots for him big time when he was the door guy at the bar.

I got 5 old Bill Cosby albums. that should count as a "collection."
O)))
This is why we can't have nice things.
ooh, how does Dopesmoker sound on vinyl?
My husband and I are both vinyl enthusiasts, I'm not even sure how many records we have at this point, but we had to build a new shelf not too long ago to accomodate some recent purchases. Nearly any time we go in to Manhattan we come back with a few more records. There are also some pretty decent used record stores not too far from where we live, which is awesome and bad at the same time. It's going to suck when we move, but that's life.
You have any idea how many beds I own? I plan on dying in this house.

For the record, just how many beds do you own, Tuff?
I had to do a mental count just now.
One California King, one standard king, two queens, one full, one twin.
Why? I don't know.

Sounds like you're running a Guesthouse
It's a big house.
There may be some late-sixties to mid-70's vinyl in the basement...

some of my most recent vinyl purchases:

Dopesmoker sounds superb. Heavy as shit.

I don;t think there's a lot or anything particular interesting, but I'll take an inventory and see what I've got. I'd probably give most of it to you for cost of shipping.

Guys! You can get all these on mp3s now! there's no physical object to the music anymore and it's a snap to move! get into the 21st century!
No way, Karb! I need the physical object. I need the huge album artwork to admire. An iPod can barely give you a glimpse of the album cover. How else can I enjoy something this awesome:

This picture barely does it any justice.
An iPod is practical for when you are on the go, away from home. But something like Pink Floyd's The Wall, needs to be on vinyl. Sounds better.
I'm gonna stay in the past! I've seen the future, there's no robot maids, flying cars, matter transporters, Mars colonies, nothing good so far.

definitely interested to see what you've got, when you have the time to go through it
Glad to meet another fan! It's such a great album, 'The New Stone Age' is just, wow. I also have Crush, but I haven't listened to that one too much.

No one seems to take album artwork seriously anymore but when you look at a lot of classic L.P. front covers they're just as iconic as the music itself.
It's hard to do much with five inches square.

I wish I could post pictures. I can't remember most of mine as I haven't been able to play them in 5+ years. I have about 750 - 1,000 ranging from the 1940's to the early 1990's. As I can't play them, I don't buy more. Some of the cooler ones are Pink Floyd's "The Wall" and Jimi Hendrick's "Are you Experienced?" and a couple really old 45's of Bessie Smith.
So yes and no. And yes, they are a bitch to move!
Mom's gonna fix it all soon.

You should pick up a turntable! You can get second hand ones for pretty cheap, or even decent quality new ones for under $200... what's the use of having all that goodness if you can't listen to it

Yeah, you should definately get a turntable and revisit the goodness!
Don't let those Dan Fogelberg albums go to waste!

I miss my Oakridge Boys collection, too.

Okay, it should be up now. Now admire those two Darth Vader knock-offs with Elvis glasses exiting a spaceship . . . or going down an intergalactic shopping mall escalator!

so many pop culture references. what album is that? looks familiar but I can't place it. it reminds me of the sabbath - technical ecstasy cover in a way, probably because of the escalator
I didn't mean to be a collector. Vinyl was the only available form of music other than tapes....
The Catmother of all Worldwide Cats
It is Warning's debut album, Warning. They were a German one hit wonder from the early 80's, but the whole album is pretty legendary. It's electro/prog/disco/space/synth/rock or something. Here is their only "hit", Why Can the Bodies Fly?:

Can anyone explain the whole "It just sounds better" thing to me?
Wasn't that the whole deal when CDs came out with how clear the sound was, and the old joke about Manson listening to the Beatles on CD and figuring he just had a burnt speaker wire the whole time?
also, with all the piracy and bands experimenting with giving away free music, why don't they just go ahead and give it all away for free and start selling something like 24'X24' posters on nice thick cardstock for the album cover artwork and as a bonus you get a free CD with the music.
and, yes, that was a spinal tap reference.

Well, of course it's all down to personal taste. But for me, it's not necessarily that the sound on CDs is any clearer than the sound on records, or vice versa. I think vinyl gives a fuller sound. A lot of the comparisons made have to do more with the 'warmth' of the sound. Vinyl has a much warmer sound than most CDs.
The other reason vinyl sounds better than CDs is not necessarily a problem with the medium of CDs so much as it is with the current trends in audio mastering. Most albums these days have the heck boosted out of all the levels to make them louder, but this means you are losing a lot of clarity in the sound, as it all blends together in to a noisy wash. The reason why many older albums sound better on vinyl is because they were originally mastered for vinyl, and didn't have the shit boosted out of them. Many low-quality CD reproductions or 'remasters' of older albums suffer from this loudness issue, which you will notice if you compare them with the original vinyl.
Newer vinyl isn't exempt from the loudness problem either. The same thing applies to many newer albums that are put out on vinyl, pressed from files mastered for CD. CD and Vinyl are two very different mediums, so something that is mastered to be digital (CD) will not sound the same once pressed to vinyl. But because it costs money to have an engineer do two different masterings of an album, this isn't always done.
If I'm buying an older album I generally try to get an original pressing or at least an older repressing rather than a newer reissue or remaster, because sometimes the sources for those can be a little dodgy - ie sourced from digital masters not the original analog.. plus the loudness thing.
I hope that all makes sense, I tried not to ramble too much, but it's been a long day.
Yeah, what she said.
But I can tell you, the shittiest sounding vinyl I have is the Dethklok Dethalbum which I bought at a concert. Its a picture disc and they probably didn't record it using analog equipment or do a vinyl mastering and what-nots or maybe I got a defected copy, I dunno. Just sounds like shit. If I played it for someone, it would definitely be an argument against vinyl. Having said that, I've seen people trying to sell it on ebay for as low as $80 and as high as $225 which seems kind of absurd, but I guess I'll hold onto it for now seeing how it might be a collector's item.

Picture discs don't always have the greatest sound-quality to begin with, so that may have some thing to do with it, too.
This seems like the right thread to say that I really hope the new remaster of the Queens of the Stone Age self titled is going to sound awesome. It's being released through Ipecac, who seem to do a good job on vinyl, and I think Josh Homme knows what he's doing.. I would really just love to have that album on vinyl. Non bootleg original copies are so hard to find because they didn't press very many of them, and they go for a lot of $$$.
I bought a bootleg vinyl of Tool's Ænima, it has "reproductions" of the inner sleeves and it actually sounds pretty good. A real one costs so much damn money. It'll have to do until(or if) Tool finally reissues it.
Looking forward to the new Down live album coming out at the end of the month as well as Electric Wizard reissues of the long out of print Dopethrone and Come my Fanatics.

Some bootlegs can have pretty decent sound, I just don't like the idea of no money going to the artist. Yet I have no qualms in downloading music, is that odd? I just don't like the idea of someone taking an album, cheaply reproducing it and selling it for their own profit. It's a scam.
Something like that though I wouldn't have a problem with, because if they would put the album out, I would guess he'd have bought it from them first.
I figure it's the artists own damn fault for not meeting the fans needs.
I have a wee little collection, most handed down from my parents:

Lol, Dokken.
Some cool stuff there, though - I love Francoise Hardy
Don't laugh at the Dokken!
It was Dream Warriors that did it.
haha, don't worry - I actually saw Lynch Mob in concert a few months back

My collection and doucheyness have grown slightly since my last post:
