What are you listening to right now?
From The Randy Newman Songbook Vol. 2 , that just got released :
When I am grown up I'll be Randy Newman.

Mares Of Thrace

OMG
This is why we can't have nice things.
John Mayer - In Your Atmosphere.
There is no proper way to cope, no everlasting grace.
Just a flame on a river floating away.
Mares of Thrace?
And I thought Mates of State was just about the worst band name ever.
Beats The Mares of Diomedes, I guess. They apparently used to be called Tosca.
I would be interested to know what you think of them. They look like Cub, sound like Jucifer. Seriously, most adorable doom metal band yet.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Also on a Joe Jackson kick.

Hmm, can't really get with those vocals, I'm afraid. Could just be the live setting though.
The Party's Crashing Us Now by Of Montreal. It reminds me extraordinarily of Rant.

“if you want to be a bird,” you said once, “with colorful plumage and buoyant trills, you must also be ready for hollow bones."
If it weren't for the cult, I'd not know about Beirut. I'd also not know that Bernie Mac had died but that's off topic.
Elephant Gun, hell yeah.
At the moment I'm listening to Austra's album Feel it Break, and it made a very good first impression on me.

This would be my writing playlist of the week...certainly you can get a sense of the mood
Heard a (ridiculous) anecdotal story the other day about people driving Toyota Yarises and listening to Animal Collective - wish I could remember it
I freaking love electropop.

I love this one. Actually whole album is great. And what's surprising to me, the second half of it is better.

I downloaded it just yesterday and listened to a couple songs and I'm sure I'm gonna love the whole thing. Wee!
Glad to hear that ^___^
Here's something I was very much into for last few weeks. The album from which this song comes is very disappointing to me, and even this song isn't as much awesome as previous Pati Yang's work, yet still it's quite catchy for me.
Anyway, I've listened to that Waldeck song Irina Marina posted, and it's very my style. I need to check out more stuff by this band.

and getting excited for the release of the new Horrors album:
IIIIII looooooove this baaaaaaand
Had this song in my head all day, since hearing it last night. I never really listened to the Decemberists before because of the hipster factor, but they actually have some beautiful lyrics. The Crane Wife was always one of my favourite Japanese fairy tales.
Quite possibly my favorite band. And yes, there is a huge hipster following, but the hipsters are getting all "I used to like the Decemberists back before they were cool, now I hate them".
And its ok to listen to them again. Colin Meloy is a book nerd, and a hell of a writer... amazing lyrics.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
Hipsters are such fickle creatures... I wonder if they ever really 'like' anything in the true sense. I love that his wife does all their cover art. So cute.
First time I saw Sunn O))) about three (?) years ago, it was all metalkids, journalists, and misanthropes. Which is about right. When I saw them again recently, easily half the crowd was hipsters, hipsterwives, and scenesters - all either cringing in the back of the room or mocking the band they ostensibly came to see. Or both.
I actually *enjoy* the gut-churning noise they crank out.

I saw them at ATP Festival 2007. The bassist hit another member of the band and knocked over a massive amp. I wasn't sure whether they were having a fight or whether it was part of the show. Anyway, I felt pretty apathetic about the whole thing.
i loved how they used city of god for this video
They got into a fight.
Properly, they would be standing more or less motionless.
It's absolutely not going to appeal to almost everyone.
This is why we can't have nice things.
That made me feel a lot better.

16 September, Bucharest. This makes me feel better.
I saw his set few months ago, it was really great.

that new Depeche Mode remixes comp. Not bad.
it's not? I love 'em but haven't gotten around to downloading this yet -I wasn't able to get into their last one as much, the sounds of the universe, and I had heard the remixes were a waste of time. But I liked some of their last ones from 04 -are there more than a handful of good ones on this?

Yeah, Sounds of the Universe really wasn't good at all. Apart from 'Wrong', which I loved, it was pretty disappointing. This remix comp is from 81-11 so there's quite a few older mixes as well as newer ones. You probably want to get the 3 disc version and not the 1 disc version, though. The first two discs are older mixes and the third disc is all 2011 mixes.
My friend moved in two weeks ago. He makes his own beats. All I've been listening to is him mess with all of his equipment. But I like it. Www.soundcloud.com/mdmaok
The best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between asleep and awake, when you don't know the difference between reality and fantasy, when for just that one moment you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality, and it really happened.

This was last night in Bucharest.
This was last night in Bucharest.
Damn! Because I could choose only one concert (financial restrains), I've decided to see Portishead, and had to give up on seeing Amon Tobin and Lamb (and few others) next month... T____T

Don't worry, I wasn't there either. It was the one gig I wanted to see at that festival. Well, maybe Asian Dub Foundation too.
Anyway, you're seeing Portishead. I wish they either came to Romania or had concerts in the UK while I'm there starting next year. I'd do anything to see them live. Beth is just amazing. I'm listening to a live version of Glory Box now that they had with Massive Attack. You're so lucky!
I'm singing this at a gig in a few weeks. It's kind of a joke (but not really because I secretly love it...)
Rome - A La Faveur De La Nuit. An extremely interesting neofolk band from Germany.
Good choice, I love Rome. Aren't they from Luxembourg though?
Yes, they're from Luxembourg - my bad.
