UK Rock Appreciation Thread
I recently have gotten really into three recently formed UK rock ensembles: The Thrills, The Darkness, and Athlete.
Oddly, even though I do not like The Thrills' influences(old Califonia rock such as Beach Boys) I enjoy what they have done. "Big Sur" "Santa Cruz" and "Dont Steal My Sun" are easy listen to and very whimsical and calming. I enjoy their fairly original riffs and can easily listen to them over and over. And an interesting note is that they're from Dublin(ie UK and not British).
The Darkness: he hits a falcettio(sp?) in every song but I enjoy that. Like the following band they are very fun to listen to and I bet their concerts are awesome. They play music simply because its what they love to do and it shows. I love the back-to-basics rock style and Steven Tyler-esque voice. But I can understand where some uptights could find them annoying.
Another fun band is Athlete. They cover Avril Lavigne's complicated...sort of. They play a few notes but add their own twists and lyrics. They also scream chorus and what follows is (of course) the chorus. They also play more of a back-to-basics rock style that was first introduced(probably wrong but anyways) by the Strokes. And you cannot help but love the thick cockney accent.
Songs to check out:
The Thrills: Big Sur, Santa Cruz, Dont Steal My Sun
The Darkness: Get Your Hands Off of My Woman, Black Shuck, Stuck in a Rut
Athlete: You Got the Style, El Salvador, One of those Days
Saw that Athlete video...Snoozefest.
Not as bad as Starsailor though...te he

I always thought Muse was a pretty good UK band.
i respect your honesty, but i detest what you're being honest about.
yeah muse isnt bad, i hear their newest is their best, i heard them about a year ago, and their music now is way better. they're pretty good.
Muse were a great band. I don't think much of their newer albums at all. I used to listen to their first two loads. Go see them live, they're even better live.
Muse's most recent album is sooo long, my sister won't stop listening to it. At least she's not into Busted or anything though.
What about less recent UK rock?
--LONGPIGS, She said, Far, On and On.
--CHINA DRUM, they do an excellent Wuthering Heights.
Anyone remember them?

Eh? Dublin's in Ireland. Tis far from the UK they were reared.
I had the pleasure of seeing the Darkness when they supported Metallica during the summer. Fantastic live act. My brother met them a while ago, the ravin' barsteward. Never much liked the Thrills, the singer's voice kind of annoys me.
Bah.
My friend has the vocalist's mobile number, from the Darkness. Even if their music is blah, their personalities for the media make up for it.

You live there so perhaps you know more than I do. But I thought Northern Ireland was still run by the British, therefore a part of the United Kingdom of Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

All I remember about China Drum was a fat singing drummer.

Why do people call it Eire? It's Ireland for Christ's sake.
I think my favourite Muse song at the moment is Stockholm Syndrome. They're a good band, they have a lot of really good songs, but they're not the kind of band that you'd just sit down and listen to a whole album. At least, I wouldn't.
Bah.

Hard to pick my best song, but these 3 r my favs :
Muse - Feeling Good
Muse - Bliss
Muse - B side - Pink ego box
Feeling Good isn't even their song. It's a good cover though. I'd recommend Muscle Museum or Plug in Baby.
/me scratches his head wondering why he picked feeling good..
the song sounds much better by Nina Simone.
I like Muscle Museum but i dont think plug in baby is one of their better songs...
Muscle Museum for sure. That or Micro Cuts. That's what hooked me, heh.
Deadstar is fannytacular.
Bah.
Deadstar isnt one of their good songs imo..

i saw some stuff about the darkness on tv and they were wierd looking but the guy can sing...kinda reminded me of Queen
