They catch a lot of flack, but if that JJ Abrams or Damon Lindelof ever hook up with someone that can write endings as well as they write beginnings, they'll end up changing pop culture even more than Star Wars did.
It's the last season so it also looks like they're setting up for a spinoff with Jim's new sports marketing company and i'm betting Pam won't be on that show so they're doing this stupid affair story to get rid of her.
Sorry, i just really like The Office and it's a show that's always had my respect because of how they kept Jim and Pam's romance interesting without adding soap opera drama for all these years and now all of a sudden they're adding it in for convenience. Bad writing, i say.
I'm starting to believe that not one person left on that show even cares anymore and they're just showing up for a paycheck and to get it over with. I don't know how they can legally show Ed Helms in the opening credits still. He was in like the first 3 episodes and hasn't been seen since! If they're not going to bother with a manager anymore, they should have just left it empty after whatshisface left.
As for the whole Pam thing, I've seen professional wrestlers "heating" the crowd up than the ham-fisted way they're trying to do this. It's just awful writing.
The way I heard it, they were trying to set up a spin-off with Dwight and his farm, that's why a bunch of his characters are getting more time, but I think they've nixed that idea.
I still say if they truly wanted this show to go on and re-capture some of that dangerous writing they had early on, they should have put Packer in as the new manager, no string of super special guest stars, just Bam! another boss that has no clue how terrible the things he's saying or doing are to people and away you go.
And how's this for a spoiler, they end the show with Michael on Skype or something, saying how his life has been going and a bunch of little mundane things, then all of a sudden, Holly and his 2 year old daughter come running in and jumps on his lap; it never having occurred to him to start off by announcing he had a child. But, no, they won't do anything that daring or cool.
I don't want that to be ruined. Please Pam, do not have an affair. Please, please, please.
If Packer would have become the manager, that would have salvaged the show for sure. NBC always drops the ball on final seasons.
Spoilers for Alecia below.
Packer being manager sounds kinda boring. But I was really bored with that show before Michael left. I don't think it's a better show now but at least they're doing something new.
The thing with the Boom Guy isn't very well written and feels very weird since (I don't think) they've ever done anything like this before.
But I love it. I've always wanted them to acknowledge the film crew more. I loved it when Michael directly mentioned the documentary right before he left. It's like in Gossip Girl (bear with me here) when the narrator of the show is an actual important character and makes shit happen ALL THE TIME but they NEVER fucking showed her.
But based on how much all of you seem to hate it, I might be the only one that desires this type of pseudo wall breaking. I think it makes more interesting and this Boom Guy IS about as "dangerous" as the writing can possibly get.
But Nate, I really like that idea of the Skype conversation as a last scene with Michael. That's almost definitely going to be infinitely better than whatever they come up with.
New Community TOMORROW NIGHT! I can't watch it until Friday morning but excited already.
Also, I've heard about House of Cards and House of Lies and don't know what either are about so I don't know what or which to watch so I'm going with neither.
Zomg.
I caught up on all of the new Girls episodes. That show is ridiculous. There's really nothing like it on TV.

They've always broken the wall, whenever any of them speak directly to the camera. It's just not as obvious. (That's the one thing that's always bugged me about Parks and Rec, they can't seem to ever decide if it's a fake documentary like The Office or just a regular show)
This whole thing just seems so jarring and desperate to create some drama between Jim/Pam that really hasn't been there for 6+ years.
One way they could save it, is if they showed some popular scene from whatever previous season, at a different camera angle and you see the boom guy all googly-eyed at Pam. But I doubt they thought to film those scenes back then.
Even if they just re-created some scene now and did that, would make it feel a little more seamless.
Ideally, they should have just wrapped it up after Jim and Pam got married, maybe have 1 more season to close out Michael's character. But ever since the wedding, it's just been another run of the mill sit-com. (also, does anyone else think that Jim, ever since they had the kid, has been pretty much an asshole?)
I wouldn't say I HATE it; it's more I feel shame and embarrassed for how low it's fallen. People still argue over whether the British original or American remake are better. That, in itself, is impressive. Hardly anything remade or rebooted ever even approaches the original, and for a while there The Office did.
The American remake doesn't know when to quit.
I watched the first episode of the new season of Sons of Anarchy last night.
It was a good one. Katy Sagal is brilliant. And I felt sorry for Tig.
We started watching The Wire. Very good as far as I'm concerned. Barbara doesn't care for crime shows though (except Breaking Bad).

New Community verdicts?
A lot of people are saying it lacked 'heart' but I never really felt Community had a bunch of heart anyway. It's got a lot of brains. It's hard to judge Community season 4 without imagining things are different without Dan Harmon but I am trying to ignore that.
I feel like it was a bit manic, there were two big concepts going on at once (Abed's imagination, Hunger Deans) and that made it feel a bit like it was trying too hard to be the classic Community. However, it wasn't a massive dip in quality and I think a few episodes in we'll see the writers calm down a bit and it will be great again.
After all, they are the same writing team. Dan Harmon might be brilliant but the bulk of it was these writers. I know Megan Ganz has left for Modern Family now but she was there this season.
So all in all one thumb up from me. A lot of people are just hating on it because they were expecting to hate it. It needs to be seen as a series before it can be fully judged, I feel.

The one complaint I saw that I kind of agreed with was that it felt like they rushed it. Which is weird because of how much time they had to get it done.
If it had been like an hour long season premiere they probably would have been able to get everything to balance out more evenly.
And the one thing that really concerned me was just how little Chevy Chase was a part of anything. They've said that he is in every episode, but I'm getting worried that it's going to be they just took all the stuff he filmed and just edit it with him telling 1 joke per episode.
It was a good one. Katy Sagal is brilliant. And I felt sorry for Tig.
This confused me. I thought season 6 started already or something. Season 5 is good and dynamics change a lot.
The Wire is awesome. I really liked the season about the Education system and school kids. And there is this great one where they have "Little Amsterdam".
And, Omar is way so cool.

I think we must just be starting season 5. The one I started watching is where *SPOILERS YOU BASTARDS* Jax has just taken over as President, and in the last episode Tig's daughter was burnt alive in front of him.
Yep that's 5. The only reason I know the number is because your comment made me want to double check.
You guys are up to season 6?
Not fair!
Downton Abbey tonight AND The Walking Dead starts again!

I liked it too. It wasn't the best thing in the world but it was nice.
Even the worst episode of Community is still better than any other sit com out there. Unless, I guess, if they also had a new season of It's Always Sunny to compete with. Maybe that's why they moved it back?
Finished watching season 1 of House of Cards. The last episode could've been better, but there have been many other episodes that were great, and I'll definitely be watching the second season whenever that will be released.
I'm waiting for the last eight episodes of Breaking Bad to decide if it's better than The Wire. The Wire was pretty flawless to me.
I have 3 more episodes left of Breaking Bad and American Horror Story: Asylum, each. Will try to finish it next week.
I finished Breaking Bad. I kept waiting for
****SPOILER****
Hank to figure it all out and then it all happened in the last half minute. Pretty cool.
Irina, I've seen all of Breaking Bad, but please spoiler warn that last post
I want to start watching Sweden's Next Top Model. As if I have time to keep up with another show.
I'm not too impressed with The Following by the way. I've seen 3 episodes and it's alright, but I expected more. Kevin Bacon's just okay.
I can't believe this season of Downton Abbey is already over! And boo to the end of the finale
I thought last night's Walking Dead was really good.
Now I'm starting House of Cards.

Brand new Bunheads tomorrow!
This is why we can't have nice things.
GUTTED My Mad Fat Diary is over =(
I want to go back to the 90s, pleeeeaaaaaase, don't make me stay here!
I haven't watched the last episode yet! I texted my boyfriend this morning asking if we're going to watch it together (he's away until Friday evening) or if I can watch it tonight.
I will really cry when it's over... which isn't saying much seeing as I've cried pretty much every episode.

Okay, you guys have convinced me to search for My Mad Fat Diary episodes.
Yay! You won't regret it, Sema.
It's got a dream soundtrack of Stone Roses and Oasis (in their prime).
Oh shit! Hattie, I love Stone Roses! I Wanna Be Adored.
That's THE gateway song for me meeting all my friends in college, in early 90s. Golden days. Searching Hulu now.
Had a cute boyfriend from the village of Ur near New Castle, maybe. Steve Gardner 1990.
*Oh crap. TMI*
Have you heard of Ur, Hattie?
No, who are Ur?
I've never heard of Ur...
That's what every Britsh person says. Maybe I heard him wrong. With accent differnce and all. But, I'm looking for it now.

You misheard because of the accent. He wasn't from "Ur", he was from "Ooo".
I found his picture.

That has to be a more recent picture of him.
He isn't wearing a muzzle.
Kevin Spacey is obviously the reason congress never accomplishes anything, he is everything that is wrong with the US government.

Sorry.
I'm kind of stoned right now.
Does this mean
Kevin Spacey
is in charge now?
Awesome.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Sons of Anarchy was on last night and *SPOLIERS YOU BASTARDS BUT I'M A WHOLE EFFING SEASON BEHIND YOU ANYWAY* I can't believe Opi is dead, and what a way to go! That was an intense episode. Stupid Clay going to the brothel and Jemma losing her shit at that prossie, and then Jemma being all nasty to Tara.
I love Sons.
Yeah. Poor Ope.
Was he a chimney sweep by any chance?
I knew a Steve Gardner in the late 80's was a chimney sweep. Top hat, tails, the whole bit. I almost got arrested with him one time for "panhandling" (we were pretending to be busking, actually).
If you say his name three times he appears.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Any of that sound familiar?
This is why we can't have nice things.
The late 80's must be a lot longer ago than I thought it was.
I saw the first episode of House of Cards yesterday, I'll definitely watch the rest of the season.
I loved this week's Community.

Tuffy, he was more of the gambler type, when I met him. So, I can picture him playing craps on a rooftop with a group of chimney sweeps in late 90's.
Think I found him. And he may have inherited the family home in N.C.
Damn you internet.
I'm not taking that any further.

Isn't anyone here watching House of Cards? I've seen episodes 1-6 and I can't wait to watch more.
I really want to start watching House of Cards, but I want to finish watching Alias first. I have less than 10 episodes left. This last season has sucked though.
