TV Talk
I just heard Bored To Death got cancelled. Another great comedy down the drain. I still haven't seen season three so I at least have that to look forward to.

I finished watching all of The Wire. It's bloody good.
I appreciate.
We're watching Community in my house right now! I'm so in love with it. Can't wait until it returns, as I'm sure it will (whenever that is) and there are new episodes and hopefully a larger audience. It's the best written thing Chevy Chase has ever been in. I can't understand how it isn't at least as popular as 30 Rock. We bought it on DVD for four different people for Christmas. My favourite thing right now, by a mile.
Admittedly, that's not saying a lot about Chevy, but I quite like it. I'm also quite convinced we've seen the last of it. Any new show I get into tends to get dragged out back and shot.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Like which ones, Tuffy?
I can't believe the crappy shows they drag out season after season, and then great that ones get cancelled.
You can pretty-much Google "Cancelled Too Soon" and come up with a list of TV shows I loved.
Notably, and probably too obviously, Firefly and/or Dollhouse.
Still bitter about how Joss Wheadon repeatedly falls for Fox's old, "Have a TV show...PSYCHE!" gag.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I finally finished watching '24.' It's taken months and months. Jack goes crazy in that last season!
Started the fourth season of Madmen today. Love this show and I don't care what the haters say. It's so well written.
There are obviously-great shows that I refuse to watch because they will be cancelled and I would ruin it for everyone else.
This is why we can't have nice things.
You refuse to watch Madmen!? You're doing yourself a disservice sir.
I've tried multiple times to get into Madmen and I just can't do it. I find it incredibly boring.

No, I am doing you and the rest of the world a favor. If I get into it, it will be cancelled. And the world needs more of Christina Hendricks on the tv box.

It would be a crime if I knocked this face off tv again.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Never got into Madmen either.
Notably, and probably too obviously, Firefly and/or Dollhouse.

I loved Firefly and although I didn't watch it until way after it got cancelled, you're not allowed to be around the things I care about anymore.
I'm only watching Carnivale right now. And House, Gossip Girl and Californication, but they're on winter break.
No more bored to Death? Boo.
Also, Community is "back" sometime in February. Hopefully its not put out to pasture like Tuffy said.

I just started season 3 of Sons of Anarchy on Netflix. Stephen King was in an episode and that made me laugh.

Oooh I can't bloody wait to see that!
started watching the tudors. i hope it's good.
It is good.
I won't tell you how it ends though.
This is why we can't have nice things.

Wait, what the fuck? I just watched the first two seasons and the first few episodes of season 3 in the past month. I never ever enjoy shows that even remotely revolve around drugs (I just get sad/queasy/uncomfortable) but holy god Bored to Death is in my top-5 all-time TV shows now. I really hope it comes back.
My favorite right now is Parks and Rec. I introduced my grandparents to it this week and they loved it. It's definitely my favorite of the NBC shows.
Are the scissors broken in your house, son?
Worst season of Dexter ever. Two "big" shocks this season and I saw them both coming a mile away. Did they get new writers or something? Does anybody know what happened?

I think the writers are trying to get Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C hall back together.

While I don't feel it was the strongest season, I feel like I'm being forced to be the one to tell everyone else, that it wasn't THAT bad.
I think you mean wasn't that bad, but I'm honestly not sure.

Yep, my mistake. I still think season 3 sucked most. With Miguel and whatever else happened. I don't even remember..
Lila makes season 2 unwatchable to me. I hated her so much. And Doakes! What a fucking caricature.

Season 2 was my personal second favorite. (next to 4). I agree Doakes was freaking lame, but now we have Quinn. I have to question whether we are better off or not..
Anyway, the whole thing about Dexter being the one they were hunting was awesome to me.
I'm watching Bag of Bones right now.

*DEXTER SPOILERS ALERT*
Anyway, the whole thing about Dexter being the one they were hunting was awesome to me.
I didn't think Doakes was that bad.
I thought this series was slow at the start but definitely got better as time went on. Tom Hanks Jr was pretty good as a psychopath and I've always loved Deb. I just hope they won't kill her off and that whole "I'm in love with Dexter" storyline doesn't go on too long.
I admit that it was by no means the best series(I think I liked 4 most - the one with the Trinity Killer) but it definitely wasn't the worst... Series 5 was pretty crap - mostly because Lumen was so annoying!
By the way - are Astor and Cody gone forever now? Their disappearance seemed a little convenient.
Saw the Premier of "Luck" its Meh, ok. It's probably one of those shows that has to build up a bit. And Shameless is now back.
“The man of knowledge must be able not only to love his enemies but also to hate his friends.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche
I liked Luck. Pissed me off though that they only showed one episode and then it's like: "Okay, next episode is in 2 months!" Geez.
I am watching a show recommended to me by Netflix. It's called Monster.
It's about a talented surgeon who is forced by his director to choose to save a celebrity over someone who got there first. When the same thing happens with the mayor and an innocent child who got there first, he chooses the kid this time, prompting a demotion. The kick is, this kid grows up to be a serial killer. This wouldn't be the doctor's problem (save for misplaced guilt of course) except that the first victims of the serial killers are those who wronged the doctor and he is therefore a suspect.
It's an anime and I hardly ever watch anime.
It's interesting so far..
The season premieres of Shameless and Clifornication were this week. They were good and Im hoping for good seasons.
Whatever Whore!
I always wanted to watch Downton Abbey, but it was on a channel and time that I always forgot about. They've just started repeating season 2, so I'm watching the first episode now. I'm liking it. I wonder if it's worth watching the first season.
My family were obsessed with Downton Abbey. I never watched it though.
Guys.... I need a new series to get obsessed with. Has anyone got any suggestions?
As a guide, my favourite tv series EVER are as follows:
Six Feet Under
Dexter
Breaking Bad
...My So Called Life
Please don't suggest Californication as I am not interested in seeing David Duchovny playing himself. I also hated It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Sorry if this sounds like I'm picky.
Kind regards.
I was so disappointed when I watched the premiere of Project Runway: All Stars.
No Heidi Klum, all new judges, shorter episodes, WHYYY.
Heidi Klum is horrible and despised all over Germany. And she never happened in Paris, dixit Karl Lagerfeld.

The more they age, it seems David Duchovny and Brad Pitt are becoming the same person to me.
Why do they hate her? I've always loved Heidi, she seems like such a cool person.
I was a big fan of My So-Called Life but for all the wrong reasons.
This is why we can't have nice things.

Did you like Lost at all?
That's not a suggestion, I'm just wondering since I'm assuming you have watched some of it but it didn't rank as a favorite.
And if I'm wrong about that and you've never seen it then... I don't know because I haven't seen any of your favorite shows either.
Hattie, have you seen Sons of Anarchy?
I'm watching Samurai 7 because I like violent cartoons.
Okay, I'm not sure if everyone's heard, but AMC's making Goodfellas into a TV series. What... the fuck. Dumbest idea ever... but... I will watch it.

I know this is a week later, but I forget about some of these threads for a while. Anywho, have you seen Ugly Betty? The show won a bunch of awards and it didn't seem like something I would care for, but I gave it a chance when I saw it on Netflix. I still wish it hadn't ended sometimes. That was how I felt about Six Feet Under too. The United States of Tara is another favorite of mine.

I didn't click the link. Just the very idea is painful.

I used to watch the original betty la Fea which I really enjoyed. I also love Ugly Betty because ironically its way more over the top than the original novela.

Some suggestions:
Sherlock
BBC; Only 3 90 min ep. so far with a second season on the way.
Luther
BBC; 1st season has 6 episodes while the 2nd season has 4 with a 3rd season being made
Misfits
Another from the BBC; Haven't seen it myself but hear it's great.
Alphas
Like Heroes if Heroes wasn't awful. Don't let the fact that it's on Syfy discourage you.
Southland
One of the best shows on TV in my opinion.
Justified
Another great show on FX. It's in it's 3rd season right now.
Archer
Another great FX show in it's 3rd season.
Louie
Some of the humor on this show reminds me of Six Feet Under. It's dark and surreal, but still really funny. Example.
Mad Men
Don. Fucking. Draper.
Other shows for your consideration:
American Horror Story
Damages
Law & Order: SVU
Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Wire in the Blood
The Walking Dead

I caught the seaon premire of Southland without ever watching it prior to that and I have to say I liked it quite a bit. I am usually not a fan of law oriented shows, but I think I am going to start watching it.

I appreciate.
