TV Talk
We got one for movies, so why not one for television, huh? HUH?
Anyways, I'm a fan of that Thomas Jane. Liked him ever since seeing him play Mickey Mantle in that movie *61.
But this new show of his on HBO where he plays the male prostitute just looks like grasping at straws for something "edgy and daring."
61* is in my top 20 films. T'was also my intro to Thomas Jane. Every time I see him I think, Mickey Mantle.

This AmericanLife network has been playing reruns of WKRP for a while now and I've been really getting into it. Like, looking forward to watching tv on Monday nights the way I usually get amped up for watching new episodes of Lost excited.
But now, the last few weeks they've been playing old episodes of stupid St. Elsewhere in its place. dumb ass network!
Anyways, they still play a couple of episodes of WKRP on Sunday nights on WGN so i'm still able to get a weekly fix.
They had the classic one on last night where Fever and Venus are drinking on the air with the cop to show how people's reflexes get slower the more they drink and it turns out Fever's reflexes were getting faster the more he drank! Ha! Great stuff right there, I tell you what!
If Top Gear and The Office weren't so awesome, I'd honestly be swearing off TV until anything as fantastic as Arrested Development (which can only be Arrested Development) came back onto the air. So, I watch Top Gear and The Office when they're on, and have watched The Amazing Race since season 1 but I think it's kind of dying according to rumors/CBS. Other than that I repeatedly watch dvd sets of Friends, Freaks and Geeks, season 1 of Survivor, and all 3 seasons of Arrested Development. Speaking of which, THE MOVIE NEEDS TO FUCKING GET A MOVE ON.
Are the scissors broken in your house, son?
I liked Arrested Development and all but it's really an over-rated show.
It falls into that lazy sort of story-telling where it's only like 10 minutes of actual story and then 20 minutes worth of flashback jokes.
at least the couple episodes I saw of it were like that.
since i was already there
I don't think I'll find any tv show buddies on here. My favorite shows are the reality/drama-shows. Right now I'm watching The Bachelorette and Paradise Hotel [Both the American and the Norwegian version] and MTV shows such as 16 And Pregnant, The Real World and anything else shitty.
I also love Brothers & Sisters, but there won't be any new episodes till fall, gah.
OH, I forgot about The Graham Norton Show! WOO! =D <3
i'll admit 16 and pregnant is a pretty good show. i watched part of a marathon with my niece over the weekend.
I'm in a quandary. There's an amazing screenwriting contest, deadline July 1st. I need to write a script for an existing show to enter. I would prefer to do a sit-com, since it would be way less pages. I don't watch sitcoms, really, except the Office. I'm sure the contest will be inundated with: Office, 30 Rock, CSI, Family Guy, Simpsons, and How I Met Your Mother. I need to stand out. I gots researchin' to do. Gotta watch some stuff on Hulu and get to writing...
Are there any good sitcoms left?
Two And A Half Men?
Only one I really like anymore.
Write one for Lost and just let your imagination run rampant.
Step back. Evaluate. Recognize.
Coupling? wait that's british and i think they stopped making it years ago.
ummmmmmm........
sorry i got nothing. unless you wanna resurrect the X-files, in porno form.
I like Nova and My Life On The D-List, but rarely see either one as I never watch tv...
I like Always Sunny, and will make the effort maybe to watch it, but like that is in the fall, so until then I don't watch tv...
There is nothing really on television here that I follow now, CSI has finished, and Season 2 of Damages finished a few months ago, and none of my other favourites are on. Just repeats.
I only have five channels worth watching, the rest on freeview are terrible.
I don't have TV right now but when I do (hopefully Friday) I will try and catch up on some shows. I hope to keep up on 30 Rock, The Office, Entourage and Dexter.

I really loved the first season of Damages, I watched it all on hulu in a weekend, but the second season was just not doing it for me.
Step back. Evaluate. Recognize.
I DVR'ed High Anxiety the other day and have watched it like 5 times since. It's great to just put on have and run in the background.
This could have gone in the movie thread I suppose but i'm putting it here to help my struggling little thread.
i missed the whole 2nd season of Damages, but yeah, the first season was great.
it was like all the FX shows had abbreviated seasons - i pretty much only like those, so i was sad. The Riches just had a few episodes, as did Dirt. it was weird.
I also love Brothers & Sisters, but there won't be any new episodes till fall, gah.
I LOVE The Bachelorette! I mean, really love. It's like an addiction.
I also like Brothers and Sisters. I've just started watching Friday Night Lights season one and it's fantastic.
I actually have a friend from high school that's in "Hung," Charlie Saxton. He is playing one of the kids, wears thick rim glasses. Unfortunately, I don't have HBO, so I'll have to torrent it, but I'm going to try to watch it.
I see Dexter when I can, torrent or DVD, and it is one of the best shows out there. I'm half way through Season 3. The addition of John Lithgow this season is brilliant!
I make sure to see every episode of Lost, It's Always Sunny, and 30 Rock. The one show that has been letting me down is Heroes. This past season was awful! I don't know if it can redeem itself, even with Ray Park and Robert Knepper this coming season.
So you've been broken and you've been hurt

Yeah, I know I ain't nobody's bargain
But, hell, a little touchup and a little paint...

they're running the annual twilight zone marathon on sci-fi channel and starting it off with a bunch of episodes from when it was on in like 1985.
My favorite one, where some guy shows up and gives these people a box and says if they push this button they'll get a million bucks or something but someone will die is on at 2 in the morning.
I haven't seen this episode since probably it first aired. I'm curious to see if it holds up after all this time or if i've just built it up into this incredible story for myself after all these years.
They're playing one right now, called Monsters!, that is a pretty good re-imagining on the vampire myth. Like, really really good version. Not any sparkling vampire shit.
I think the reason it never caught on is because it's with the older Duke brother from trading places and not some teenie bopper heart-throb.
also, I saw they're playing that movie Grizzly Man on Animal Planet. Which really surprises me, because at one point in the film he is just lambasting the parks services mercilessly. I would have thought that alone would have made it a no-go for them to put it on their channel because they seem to be all buddy/buddy with the parks services. Or maybe they aren't, I dunno. I've never watched anything on Animal Planet before. Not even brian fellow's safari planet.
why the hell are you even bothering with those new ones?? they're just getting those over with in the middle of the night and they'll get to the good ones tomorrow - you need to sleep so you get to see the ones that the gorgeous genius rod serling wrote!!!
these go all the way till like 6 in the morning. I think it's just like a prologue for the old ones. Showing these on thursday night before getting into the classic ones over the actual weekend.
also, I wouldn't say these new one are all bad, there's some great gems in there.
Like i just skipped ahead and saw the very last one they're showing is the one with George Jefferson and the black guy from Firefly as the devil. The ending twist to that one is so marvelously perfect that I'd put it up against the very best of the old ones and it'd hold it's own against them! matter of fact, i'm gonna DVR it too!
New Years is a joy just for the Twilight Zone Marathon.
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
agreed.
I've just gotten into a new sitcom that's pretty good, it's called Better Of Ted. It's very similar to Andy Richter Controls The Universe and it reminds me a fair bit of the J-Pod television series, but less cheap-looking.
!
Is that the one were they like work in a product testing place thing?
Kinda looked like that show Testees only from the management side of things.
Sons of Anarchy is coming back! Hooray!
im falling in love with this program from the UK called Ideal. it's hilarious!
the premise doesn't sound like much, the day to day life and happenings of a small time hash seller and the buyers who come each day, but its good proper character comedy! so much quirk and subplot... it's really growing on me in much the same way that the office US did.
geez this thread made me ache for more arrested development though. what's the word on the film?
also, i'll get into why when i have more time, but everyone should experience breaking bad on AMC. they just finished the second season, but there's plenty of time to catch up before the third season starts!
brian cranston (dad from malcolm in the middle) is AMAZING.
Kinda looked like that show Testees only from the management side of things.
Yeah that's the one, it's pretty good though, I heard testees was shite. It's got a lot of office-satire and some good evil humour, it's not quite up there with AD or anything like that, but it's still pretty good, I'd rate it around the same as 30 rock.
!
Oh hey, the best news I've heard in a while-
Futurama has been confirmed for a new season!
!
i'm watching the last season of the Shield via netflix.
am i repeating myself? i'm getting deja vu all over these threads....
I've probably seen a total of 3 episodes of Futurama in total.
The best thing I liked about that show though was them having all the famous people head's in jars. Do they still do that? It just cracked me up that they would go to all this trouble to save the "brilliant" minds from the 20th century and it was always people like Richard Nixon or John Tesh.
One of the episodes I saw was where they had all the heads of the entire cast of Star Trek.
In fact, now that I think about it, I don't know why I never really watched all of those old shows religiously, like i've done with the Simpson's...
am i repeating myself? i'm getting deja vu all over these threads....
The Shield is another one of those shows. That I always thought looked interesting and like I'd enjoy it, but for whatever reason just never managed to see one single episode.
Same with Six Feet Under and The Riches.
I need to watch more tv.
you would enjoy it. it is very enjoyable. i loved the Riches, too, its first episode was like a movie in itself.
you should get netflix and watch all the seasons of the Shield so i have SOMEONE TO TALK TO about it. NOBODY followed it through to the end. i mean, my husband is going through the last season with me to humour me and sort of enjoying it, but that's not the same as if watching with someone who can still feel the repercussions of the first bullet in the first episode.
i can't get started on the Shield. i'll never shut up.
The only thing that bugs me about The Shield is I always picture that guy as The Commish and if I hear him start swearing and punching people i'm likely to start crying.
well, you'll totally forget he was The Commish. and he mainly swears, punches people, interrogates with the aid of a phone book, bangs lots of women, and is seriously violent, moral, deceptive, manipulative, complicated, and downright sexy.
the show is so damn good it made The Commish sexy.
NOOOOO! NOT MY COMMISH!!!!
oh hell yeah. total badass. like driving cars through the front of buildings, adultery, planting evidence, solving LOTS AND LOTS OF CRIMES - but never wearing a tie or eating donuts.
strictly black t-shirts and jeans, driving a charger. HAWT.
hell's kitchen is coming back already in a couple weeks. also, john lithgow is on the next season of dexter so i guess i'm not cancelling my showtime after all.
stupid hell's kitchen!!! i blame gordon ramsey for me not being on Jeopardy yet. i didn't know his name and missed that question in the online jeopardy test. now i'll NEVER FORGET HIS NAME.
HERE'S YOUR COMMISH!!!! watch the whole thing, he beats up like 40 people just in this promo
I didn't click it! HAHA!
anyways, something else I was pondering last night, with the way DVRs and Tivo and whatnot are pretty much making skipping through commercials so easy nowadays, you think we'll get to a point where tv shows revert back to how they were in the 50's? Like instead of breaking to a series of commercials, they'll just have the stars stop in the middle of the performance and shill a product? It seems they already kind of do this already, with all the product placement stuff. I just wonder if they'll take that next step.
bill gates just paid millions to insert positive and wholesome messages into the scripts of shows on certain networks - did you read about that?
CLICK IT!! WATCH HIM BE A BAD-ASS!!!

DVD comes out September 15th. I can't wait!
So you've been broken and you've been hurt

that image ain't showing up, just so ya know.
also, I'm watching the softball episode of WKRP!
What a great fucking episode of a great fucking show!
I dare anyone to find a better cast of characters on a tv show ever!
You obviously never saw a little show called "Cop Rock".

I believe it's called Hung. The first episode is directed by the guy who made About Schmidt, and Election. Don't think it will be one I will be bothering with though.
