Triangle (2009)
I think this movie is a must see for those who enjoy confusion and a deeper meaning of horror. I am creating this topic because the assumptions and ideas concerning Triangle can pretty much be endless. Everyone I've watched it with has brought something new into light. Hopefully this will help me decipher this movie more than I already have. Either way, this movie will always be a mystery in some ways. It is for this reason I love it.
The first half of this movie is boring and feels pointless. Then it starts getting pretty good. And then the end hits you. I loved it!
That's exactly how I felt about it as well. I thought it was going to be another horror movie about a ghost ship or something. The middle of the movie was a pleasant surprise. All I kept saying to myself was, "Whaaaat the f******ck?"
i love a movie that actually delivers a good 'what the fuck?' mindbend or two.
And you still feel like "what the fuck?" - like it's all a cheap plot trick, until the last five minutes of the movie. I came so so close to writing it off until right before the credits were rolling.
it certainly did deliver - in the end.
i wouldn't classify it as horror though ML, i didn't really feel much dread or tension watching it. good film overall.
anyone who enjoyed it should check out Los cronocrímenes aka Timecrimes.

i think it was much better done along similar lines, with similar themes and ideas. if you really want to go deep on the parallel realities bit, check out Primer, which was done on an incredibly low budget but i really enjoyed. most people love or hate it.
another GREAT one is following, directed by chris nolan who later went on to do momento.
I didn't feel scared during the movie either. I tend to imagine myself in situations that are extremely unpleasant. When I put myself in her situation....I felt utter horror. I would, personally, rather be killed on a scary ass ghost ship. She is stuck in that triangle for the rest of her life because time doesn't exist. No matter what she does, she cannot stop her son from dying. I think seeing your son die again and again and being helpless to stop it is pretty damn scary. Almost scary on a level we can't comprehend because of how utterly unrealistic such a situation is. Time loops scare me. I understand what you mean when you say it isn't a horror film because fear isn't an emotion I experienced during the movie. It's just the situation itself that would be scary.

Triangle has been on my 'perhaps' list for awhile, mostly due to Chris Smith's past directorial work.. been very iffy. I am excited to watch this eventually, now that you've reminded me of it, having gone over to IMDB and seen some of the critique.
