I see that we have very different tastes.
What was the point?
So are you saying that you liked Insomnia?

Of course I liked Insomnia, but that's not what I asked. I asked if you understood what was really going on as opposed to what was being shown to you? I'm not trying to be Adversarial here, I'm simply asking if you got the full scope of the movie as opposed to the obvious things that they tell you. There's more to it than most people think.

I probably interpretted it wrong, but I thought that it was about a girl who is murdered. Al Pacino can't sleep for a week and his co-worker, Swank admires him (I remember lots of sexual conotations),and they suspect a mediocre writer from the town (Williams),who the girl was a fan of,and after a painful amount of time,Williams and him have this massive fight, and they both end up getting shot. What was the big thing behind it?

Ok...some comments, and some more Shitty Movies.

I love Vanilla Sky. Everytime I watch it, I get something else out of it. Besides...if for nothing else, some of things that Cameron Diaz says in that movie are just plain...uh god.

Crossroads yes was bad, even if it did have Britney in her underware. But he saddest part was that she out acted Dan Akroyd in that.

Hmm...The Shit List Continued...
Anaconda...fuckin sucked.

Meet Joe Black. Holy shit did that movie ever fucking suck. One good moment in the entire movie...Brad Pitt's cameo as a skyrocket in the middle of the road. Oops...Didn't see that coming

Masters of the Universe. Man, I think that very well could have been the first movie in my history that I thought sucked. I fuckin loved He-Man. And that movie just killed it...

Showgirls. Oh man. Can words describe how bad that was? But for pure comedy, watch that movie when they play it on VH-1. The airbrushing and voice overs are 100% pure comedy.

Oh my god...I can't belive I forgot this one...this is definetely in the Top 5 Ever...

They, by Wes Craven. HOLY SHIT! I can't even find anything, not one single second of the trailer, film, credits, to find redeeming. Good god, I wanted to cry sitting through that.

Don't worry SnowWhite, I didn't like it either. I thought it was ultra sub-par to Memento.

Well, the "big thing" is that at the start of the film, it opens with the blood dripping on the underwear (the guy he set up). This has already been eating away at Pacino's conscience so he's actually been awake for a lot longer than a week. His life was already miserable and he was just headed toward insanity. He didn't seem too angry about dying. Far from a subpar film, but whatever.

If you want a good camp movie The One with Jet Li was pretty hilariously bad from what I saw, which was basically the end when he goes to a prison planet and yells "I AM YULAW! I AM NOBODY'S BITCH, YOU ARE MINE!"

The man who wrote that deserves to get stabbed to death with a medal.

I saw this first when I was nine and thought it was breathtaking.

Two months ago, I saw it in Target for $9 and decided to splurge. I brought it to a friends and watched it on his 57" monstrosity.

"Nine dollars!" I said, "for four hours of movie!"

It was so bad no one said a word for the first two hours. Everyone just sat awkwardly. Then, at the midpoint, I mentioned "Guys, I'm pretty much sure I got fucked paying that nine dollars for four hours of movie."

They all sighed in relief and told me they were being polite by not mentioning how hosed I got. We watched the rest of the film like an episode of Myster Science Theater 3000.

Mini biography
Dolph Lundgren is living proof that brains and brawn do go together. Born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden, Lundgren attended the Royal Institute of Technology. Spending time abroad in the United States on various academic scholarships, he attended Washington State University and Clemson in South Carolina. In 1982, he received a scholarship to complete his Masters degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Sydney in Australia. The following year, he was awarded a Fullbright Scholarship to the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While on his way to Boston to continue his studies, he stopped to New York City and there his life took a radical turn. While working at the trendy Limelight Disco along side actor Chazz Palminteri, Lundgren met with noted drama coach Warren Robertson, and decided to give acting a try. Lundgren made his feature film debut in the James Bond movie A View to a Kill (1985), which co-starred his then lover Grace Jones. Then he beat out 5000 other hopefuls to land the breakthrough role of Ivan Drago, Sylvester Stallone's opponent in Rocky IV (1985). The success of this film led Lundgren to star in numerous films including Masters of the Universe (1987), The Punisher (1989), Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991) opposite the late Brandon Lee, Universal Soldier (1992) and Johnny Mnemonic (1995). In 1993, he starred in Pentathlon (1994), an action-drama which he also produced under his own production company, Thor Pictures (also known as Red Orm Productions). While most his films tend to typecast him as a bicep-bulging hero, Lundgren is also a founding member of "Group of Eight," a New York theater group started in 1994 which performed "Another Octopus". A world-class athlete, Lundgren took up martial arts at 14 and has achieved his third degree black belt). His accomplishments in the sport include being the captain of the Swedish full-contact karate team and the winner of the European Heavyweight Full-Contact Karate Championship in 1980 and 1981, as well as the Australian heavyweight division title in 1982. Lundgren's lifelong interest in physical fitness led to his 1987 workout video called Maximum Potential. In addition to his karate expertise, Lundgren was selected to serve as the Team Leader of the 1996 U.S. Olympic Pentathlon Team. He is married to Annette Qviberg Lundgren, a jewelry designer and fashion stylist. The couple divide their time between New York City and Stockholm, Sweden. Their daughter Ida was born in April, 1996.

"When I started studying acting in New York, I didn't plan to be an action hero. I just wanted to learn acting because I felt it was something I needed to try to do for myself, to express something, my inner pain, or something I couldn't get out. Then I got caught up taking my shirt off and strapping a machine gun on to shoot people. There wasn't really much acting - you couldn't have done too much with those roles no matter how good you were." (in Empire (UK), January 1996)

Mine are:
5 - Clueless
4 - Save the Last Dance -- stupid girlfriends.
3 - Matrix 2 -- it hurts me to say it but it wasn't as good as the first, i hate the fact that he can fly around now and he didn't use it when he was getting his ass kicked by 500,000 guys until the end. and the fact that ZION is a huge rave, was a big let down.
2 - U-571 -- Best Submarine Movie, DOWN PERISCOPE.
1 - Coyote Ugly -- biggest dissapointment of my life!

To: JUSTINHOLT:
Summer Catch is a good movie, its the first time in any movie that the girl screws up the relationship, and she comes running back. score one for the good guys! and you forgot U-571... GARBAGE!

yea its a terrible movie, that made all 7th grade girs act like alicia silverstone! and i know people that still act like that! it was definately the down fall to my junior high career, and then to find out that it was my girlfriends favorite movie after we had already started to go out was a huge down fall, thank god thats over.

hey inane btw where are you in mass.?

yes, see, what i was told about clueless was that i just didn't get the satire. i don't give a fuck, because not only did no one else get it (i can definitely identify with the other 7th grade girls acting like AS in that movie thereafter) but it was just plain bad satire. it's just a retarded movie, especially when the two main characters see a girl with (gasp!) her own identity, who doesn't dress, walk, talk, drive and act exactly like that, and these two makeover queens clap their little hands and squeal, *project!* i mean, what the fuck? it just pisses me off. and that other girl goes along with it--it's supposed to be this big uplifting story but all that happens is this girl with her own distinct personality loses it in the movie. it pisses me off to no end, not to mention the obnoxiousness of alicia silverstone's character. this ties in with my wrath at the "legally blonde" movies also.

i live in Saugus, its about 15 minutes north of Boston. I didn't really think about it that way because I haven't watched it since 7th grade but your right... there are cliques that really exist like that in high schools, especially well off towns/cities like Bel-Air. Its really truly sad that these people exist, and they disrupt other people's lives. they are the "COOL" kids in school that make other kid's lives miserable.

5. Star Trek: Nemesis

Back in late primary and early high school I enjoyed watching Star Trek on TV. This latest film had me completely lost as to how they could have written a script so bad, and killed off my favourite character in such a way that I simply didn't give a rat's arse.

4. Damn near anything with Jim Carey

He is not funny. I actually found his latest film, Bruce Almighty, to be more amusing than his early work because it contained less of his trademark crap.

3. Natural Born Killers

That thing gave me a headache. The only thing about the film that did not suck was pissing myself laughing over the leading female's father played by Rodney Dangerfield.

2. Minority Report

Not only did I not buy into the plot at all, but the characters were two dimensional and boring. Oh yeah, and four out of five of the people in the room managed to guess the ending way ahead of time. I actually nodded off towards the end for about five minutes.

and the most irritating thing I've ever seen...

1. Requiem for a Dream.

I hate drugs. I really do. I cannot stand them. Thusly, trying to empathise with a cast of drug addicts was not possible for me. So the whole movie had me yawning and wishing them all dead. From a technical point of view, the movie was well-made. However, giving the characters some personality would have at least given me a chance of caring about them.

Reasons why I disagree with some of the 'worst movie' mentions thus far in the thread...

Blair Witch Project 2

Ok, it sucked. But it's not terrible because it had an interesting concept that wasn't done too badly. It had several memorable moments for me (the miscarriage, the kids on the road, the dogs) and I like the premise they created for it - that it was about some people who SAW the original film rather than assuming that the original film was real.

Mission Impossible 2

Oh, wait. MI2 DID suck totally. I can't believe it got made in Sydney. That's embarassing. Can I add it to my bottom-5 movies now, or is it too late?

The Thin Red Line

The original cut of the movie did not have the voiceovers by the characters. This alone would have moved the movie to 'decent' status for me. As it stands, the scenes where there are no voiceovers I find absolutely awesome. The scene where they storm the hilltop I loved. The music, the cinematography, the way the sounds began to slowly drown out until you could hear nothing... unfortunately, the voiceovers -are- there and as a result it comes across to everyone, myself included, as for the most part pretentious. Still, it isn't as bad as all that.

Galaxy Quest

It took the living piss out of trekkies & William Shatner. And the rest of the original cast, for that matter. It had me cringing, but in a good way. It made me remember just why I stopped watching Star Trek back in high school - because of the people it bred.

Insomnia

I would put this in my top-ten movies category, so my opinions on movies are abviously -so- different to whoever wrote this (I cannot remember who) that I won't even bother trying to explain myself. I will say, however, that the original movie with Stellan Skarsgård was very interesting. Not brilliant, but still quite interesting. Both films stand well on their own, despite one being a 'remake'. There are major plot differences between the two. In the original, for example, the writer plays a very minor role, and it focuses on a very fucked up cop and his issues.

Scarface

That rocked. It actually made me stop hating the 80's.

ooh. that hurts. I loved Requiem so much. Not as much as Trainspotting, but the whole plot with the mother on speed just rocked my socks.

I loved Requiem.

Natural Born Killers was entertaining. I have the director's cut. Even if it still went on a while, it's soundtrack and Woody Harrelson kept me watching-I love him. BUT, I hate Juliet Lewis. She always gets raped in her movies, or plays some redneck/trailer-trashesque character. No range at all. In the movie she probably played herself, along with Kalifornia.

Tom Hanks is one of the best actors in America. You obviously missed out on lovely films like Big, The 'Burbs (and..um, Sleepless in Seattle) during your childhood. Either that, or you were dropped on your head as a baby and those memories were iradicated...or you just might not like Tom Hanks..
