Tom Waits nominated for Rock and Roll hall of fame?!
The inductees were announced for the 2010 Rock and Roll hall of fame, which include- Alice Cooper, The Beastie Boys, Bon Jovi, LL Cool J, Chic, Neil Diamond, Donovan, Dr. John, J. Geils Band, Darlene Love, Chuck Willis, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, J. Geils Band, and the one and only...TOM FUCKING WAITS!! In my opinion about damn time
I am stoked that Donovan, Dr. John, and The Beastie Boys are in there as well. Any Waits fans out there??

"For most of this century, scientists have worshiped the hardware of the brain and the software of the mind; the messy powers of the heart were left to the poets."
yeaaaaahh....I totally agree...Bon Jovi is kind of the Barbie dolls of rock music lol

Hey, Living on a Prayer is an infectious piece of pop music you just can't help but to sing along to.
"The rat inside your brain rules the world."
Citizen Kane SUCKED!!!!!!! True fact.
Alcoholism is the cure not the disease.
no offense to the people doing the selecting, and all, but LL cool J does not in any way perform rock music.

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”
-James Baldwin
no offense to the thread starter, but these people are all just nominees, not inductees. the voting on who will actually be inducted is yet to take place, and the inductees will be announced after that. probably december or so. definitely some questionable choices on that list, but the rock and roll hall of fame is basically a joke anyway.
True. Still, I'd like to see Tom in there.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I've never really followed the rock and roll hall of fame before (thank you for the facts
) but saw Tom's name and became a little hopeful. I guess I'm glad that he's getting some notice, I really hope he gets in. Apparently the "Kiss Army" is in-ragged because Kiss has never been on the list, they all went ape shit and sent all these hate emails. lol

For sure. I don't think he'd care either way though. (Nor should he.)
Yeah this happens every year, it's pretty funny. I think they're probably not nominating them on purpose at this point to see how mad all the fans will get.
kiss are pretty badass though.
Yeah.
If it's 1978.
And you're ten.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
Alice Cooper, on the other hand...
Adam Carolla had a great deconstruction of KISS on his podcast a while back, really hilarious.
My personal favorite lyric is when Paul Stanley is shrieking about his prowess in teh sack to win over a girl in Love Gun:
No more tomorrow, baby! Time is today!
Girl, I can make you feel...Okay
Way to temper expectations, Starchild...
I can't decide which is worse, KISS fans or ICP fans. at least the ICP fans are just stupid kids, Kiss fans have been stupid their whole lives.
Give ICP fans about 10 years. They'll get there.

In 10 years, ICP will have dueling midget tribute bands. And I'm okay with that.
Have ICP replaced original members of the band with guys who pretend to be said original members, same face paint and all? Kiss have always been ridiculous, but whatever they're doing now with two other guys pretending to be Ace Frehley and Peter Criss is absurd. Might as well just put cardboard cutouts on stage and use a backing track at this point.
I have a CD I put on when I need a laugh that's a compilation of Paul's horrid, horrid stage banter. Especially when he tries to sing words in the middle of it.
"Aww-rite! People! Wooooh! Now I know why they call this The Dairy State!"
Actually, why tell when I can show:
"In 10 years, ICP will have dueling midget tribute bands." Funniest thing I've heard all day! haha

...my Uzi of ooze...
...
My God, he sounds like someone who was trying to make fun of rock n rollers, but not doing a very good job of it.
come on guys, kiss are badass. i'm not a kissarmyomgtheirnotintherocknrollhalloffame dude, or anything, but they have some fucking hooky rock n roll songs. and, i guess, they're one of those bands that i grew up listening to, so i have a soft spot for them. i have no idea why they're still together. their new album was horrible. they should have quit it in the early 80s, or earlier, even.
True.
Also true. Dynasty should have been their last record. Kiss does Disco, indeed.
This is why we can't have nice things.
True.
Yeah but this is a fairly flawed criteria for judgement - Boston, Kansas, The Scorpions and Billy Squier all have hooky rock songs, but no one is complaining about them not being in the hall of fame.
Billy Squier's 'In The Dark' should probably warrant a nomination on it's own.
hehe
But this video alone will keep Billy out of the Hall of Fame forever.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I might go so far as to say I am the biggest Waits fan around. What's that? A challenge?

WAITS OFF!!!!!!!
Haha a Waits off?! "Come on Lucinda! Let's race back down to Hell!"
What's your favorite Wait's album? (I know they're soo many good ones. I think mine are "Nighthawks at the diner" and "Swordfishtrombones."
"For most of this century, scientists have worshiped the hardware of the brain and the software of the mind; the messy powers of the heart were left to the poets."
Fav album's Alice. Probably because it was my first....after that maybe Bone Machine, but Gloom and Doom's on high rotation at the moment
Well I know karate, Voodoo too; I'm gonna make myself available to you
I don't need no make up; I got real scars
I got hair on my chest; I look good without a shirt
he was pretty good in that dracular movie.
What's your favorite Wait's album? (I know they're soo many good ones. I think mine are "Nighthawks at the diner" and "Swordfishtrombones."
Like choosing children, right? I'd say my favorite is Real Gone. a perfect blend of ballad and industrial noise. I think his best though, musically speaking, is Small Change.
But yeah, they are all damn good. Truly, the only album that I don't care for (other than the anthology type things like Used Songs) would be Heart Attack and Vine and Closing time. Though, with every listen of those, I am getting closer to appreciating them.
Damn, I want to leave work right now and lay on the couch all day listening.
Heart Attack and Vine.
Small Change.
Rain Dogs.
One from the Heart.
Swordfishtrombones.
This is why we can't have nice things.

so many waits fans here.
I'm stoked Dr. John got in. fucking legend. and Alice. but Bon Jovi...questionable.
