i think they are what is considered new school hardcore.

ST and Agnostic are old school. I like new school, but old school is my favorite. I also like metal. One of the newer metal bands that I have been listening to lately is Killswitch Engage

i love old school, i like tough guy, which is what you are calling new school, but in metal i like to stick to the older stuff, like motorhead, metallica, and pantera, shite like that

Yeah, I don't know if I'd call Biohazard, Sepultura or Suicidal Tendencies hardcore, although the one in the middle is pretty awesome. I'd call them all metal.

Thats true, they aren't what is called hardcore today. Biohazard and ST are is what hardcore used to be. Now hardcore is typified by bands like Hatebreed. Biohazard's newest album, Kill or Be Killed, is new hardcore though.

Sepultura is mos def metal. One of my favorites.

hatebreed is over rated, and I don't really think they embody the hardcore scene as a whole, certainly not in new york

I sorta like Atreyu and Underoath, but that's about it as far as hardcore goes. Too many of those bands lose their focus in that they're trying to be hardcore more than they're trying to make good music.

Despite that, I still think CurlUpAndDie is pretty fucking entertaining.

I agree, but they are kind of like the mainstream hardcore band that people have at least heard of. I definitely liked Satisfaction is the Death of Desire better than Perseverance

Hatebreed doesn't embody hardcore because they aren't hardcore. They're metalcore. Which is also why they don't embody the scene in New York, because nyhc is its own thing unto itself.

see metalcore is too technical for me. i usually just break things down into hardcore or metal. and yes nyhc is an entity all its own.

Ehhh, metalcore is easily identifiable by the power chords and metal riffs. Like Hatebreed uses power chords, so they're metalcore.

Buuut, take a band like Every Time I Die, and it's just different music. That's hardcore.

a hell of alot of rock bands use power cords. it is the most commonly used cord, even in alternative bands. i guess bands like hatebreed just make their power cords more noticeable

Don't listen to a word this dude has to say about music. Seriously he doesn't know shit.

Grind has been around for over a decade. It's not something new, even if you just heard the term.

This thread makes me want to bash my head against a wall (and just for all you pessimists, that wouldn't kill me, so no need to encourage it).

No pretense. DoNotTrip has proven himself to be a complete ignoramus when it comes to things like this (he called Limp Bizkit extreme metal, and no, he wasn't kidding). Furthermore, Plasitc was talking about genres like grindcore etc as though they were some new buzzwords, when in actuality, grindcore has existed for well over a decade. You're obviously not going to outsmart me, so I think it would be best if you just left me alone. I made it to sixth grade, and beyond.

well, cutiepie (yes thats you The Adversary), I was kidding about LB, but I guess you were too engulfed in your "extreme metal" to pick up on my sarcasm. I always knew you were quick.

Every take note... The Adversary's opinion must be taken as pure fact. If he says something suck then it must be true. If he says something is good then it must be true. The Adversary is a god when it comes to music knowledge. I bet your band is absol-fucking-lutely great. Musical genius. Move over Mozart.

Where did I ever say my opinion was the right one? FACT: Grindcore is over a decade old. FACT: Every comment you've made in this thread has a brutal tinge of ignorance that someone in my position has the ability to see because I simply possess more knowledge. This doesn't make me any better, or anymore correct. Your accusations are stupid and petty and stem from your inability to formulate a cohesive argument against me, other than your obvious disdain for me. You should learn to differentiate between FACTS and OPINIONS. However, when discussing this type of music, why would someone value your opinion over mine when I obviously am more learned in the subject. That's like taking advice on stock tips from your best friend instead of a Wall Street broker. FURTHERMORE, metal isn't even my favorite type of music. I listen to more non-metal than metal, so again you are just making petty assumptions based on no real evidence.
