The Twilight Zone (Annual New Year's Marathon)
Does anyone else get excited when they have these? I do. My whole Saturday is already planned out according to when they have specific episodes on.
Friday looks like pretty slim pickings. The only thing I saw that caught my eyes was the episode Monsters! which is actually from the 1985 version. Even worse is that they're going to interrupt the "marathon" by having 2 hours of wrasslin'! What the hell sci-fi channel? How is wrestling even related to science fiction anyways?
So what's everyone else's favorite episodes?
Yeah, Smackdown moved to Syfy a few months ago.. not sure why.
I'll probably end up watching a few 'Zones, they're always good value.
if they need to fill a couple hours, at least throw the Twilight Zone movie on there or something. Anything but wrestling!
I always KEEP the TV on sci-fi all day(s) during the marathon, and this is totally making me sad that it's going to be interrupted. I was telling my family at my aunt's house over dinner how awesome it was going to be. Damn.
I have to think about which are my favorites. Speaking of which, I've got a bid in on ebay right now for a set of seven old sci-fi/horror anthology paperbacks, and one of them is a Rod Serling collection. 25 stories in that one, I think. Wish me luck, y'all. And don't outbid me, this is HUGE for me.
You're lucky i'm broke!
Is it 25 stories all written by Serling? We'll need a full report on it as soon as you get it!
My list so far:
Old Man in the Cave is on tomorrow at 3, and The Hunt is on at 4, But after that there's not much till after the wrestling with Will The Real Martian Please Stand up at with The Howling Man (tied for my favoritest) at 11.
Then they got The Masks on at 11:30 so that it ends at the new year, which is pretty cool since the episode is about them counting down until midnight.
Then The Midnight Sun is the first one for 2011, pretty cool, it'll give things that doomsday 2012 vibe.
One For the Angels at 1:30 am with Ed Wynn is so sappy I love it!
Then The Grave (my other tied favoritest) with Lee Van Cleef, Strother Martin, James Best and Lee Marvin is on at 5 in the morning.
Then Time Enough At Last, which I would say is my favorite but I think is just so far above everything else and has become so iconic that it deserves to be in a league of it's own is on at 9:30 saturday night.
So it's only on SyFy? I may end up watching that by myself if my parents go out.
I really wanna watch this, if it is as good as everybody says. Although the series has been done twice? or a film? Which one do I start on? Im mad for cool scifi
You look like the type of guy / gal, who would like:
There was the original series from the 50's, then they came out with a movie around '81, which was just 4 of the old episodes redone by famous directors.
Then they started a new series of it around '85, which only ran a couple years.
Then they tried doing it again at the turn of the century with Forrest Whitaker as the narrator. I think that one only lasted a year.
What it comes down to is Rod Serling made that show. In more ways than one!
Really, you've never heard of the Twilight Zone before?
Where did you say you were from again?
This is why we can't have nice things.
I don't have cable television, or I would be right there watching every episode. One of my favorites is "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street."
This used to be my favorite New Year tradition, so everyone who gets to watch, please enjoy for me!

play hard, like it's work to be done.
Two years ago, I missed the ball drop because of that dang Mask episode.
Shit, I tuned in just in time for SMACKDOWN. What. The. Fuck.
Watching wrestling is like a different kind of Twilight Zone. A real shitty one and oily and homo erotic one. Must turn it off.
I got nothing against people who enjoy professional wrestling. To each his own and all that. But, one, I want my SciFi channel back, and two, it ain't a marathon if you split it up with another show in the middle.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Exactly! I don't care if people like wrestling or whatever, but you know, what the shit.
Actually, I wish there was something to do tonight, but everyone I know is drinking and driving, which isn't really all that fun at my age.
Thanks for the info, so should I watch the original 50's one? Am I wrong to have a prejudice for it being so old?! WHERE SHOULD I BEGIN?!
You look like the type of guy / gal, who would like:
MWAHAHAHAHA!!! I just got The Complete Definitive Collection for Christmas(best gift)! 156 episodes that I can watch whenever the fuck I want. Besides small breaks to watch Breaking Bad season 2, I've pretty much been watching only this since Christmas. And, for clarity, it's only the original series. I think I saw one from the newest series about a house plant that witnessed a crime, so the cops hooked the plant up to a lie detector and showed it the suspects, and the one it reacted to, they imprisoned, and after that I was was like FUCK THIS SHIT.
Some of my favorites include(in no particular order):
The Howling Man
Time Enough At Last
The Invaders
The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street(we read the script for this episode in English class in 7th grade, and the next time it was on TV I taped it and brought it in, so it has a special place in my heart)
The Obsolete Man
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge
Eye of the Beholder
Will The Real Martian Please Stand Up?

"Am I cruel? Probably. Is she an idiot? Yes." -jane s.
tomorrow they have the doppleganger, hitchhiker, and the alien in the diner episodes
The Hitchhiker is on now. That's another really good one.

If you love twists you'll love the show. Almost all episodes have surprise endings. Do not look to the 80's or 00's versions though.
And for the record, TZ is mainly a 60's show. Season 1 was in 1959 though.
My immediate reaction, "You BASTARD!" But really, that is fucking awesome. I can't tell you how long I've had this on my wish list.
Also, what the hell is up with the "Syfy" bullcrap? Really?! Is that supposed to be the "cool" way of shortening Science Fiction now? I'm not okay with this.

It's key to their whole "We're not just Science Fiction geekfodder anymore!" rebranding and it's bullshit.
This is why we can't have nice things.
True. It's bullshit.

I got no problem with them rebranding themselves into something they think they might be able to sell better. But don't change it to something that's kinda sorta like your old name. Just change it completely to something that better represents the programming you have to offer, like LBD2Vtv. (Low Budget Direct to Video television.)
It's so they can release things under their own brand. Rather than the general Sci-Fi genre title. I mean I can understand. Now a movie can be known as "Syfy presents..." although surely that will just hinder sales.
On another note - Twilight zone series 1 £30! I might go through some cheap DVD shops and hope for the best...
You look like the type of guy / gal, who would like:
SyFy Presents...
Sharktopus!
Yeah, that makes good business sense.
This is why we can't have nice things.
They also signed a deal to bring their movies to the big screen!
You look like the type of guy / gal, who would like:
They ought to get like a roving cinema thing going. Where each weekend there in another town and get a screen in a theater somewheres. and just have 2-3 days of their best movies. Have it at a discount, like 3 bucks a movie or let people buy a 3 day pass to any movies they want to go see for 20 bucks. They might not make a huge amount of money doing that, but they'd build up a helluva fan base.
Hell, go all out and get the MST3K guys to go too and give running commentary on things. You could sell tickets for 50 bucks a pop then!
Do you, Alecia?

Do you?
This is why we can't have nice things.
You can see the sarcasm dripping all the way down these four posts!
What's that one called where there's that house and a beach and they're buried in the sand looking at the TV?
Yes, I want to play. I really, really do.
That's "Something to Tide You Over" from Creepshow, written by Stephen King.
O, heh. Sorry about that.
Yes, I want to play. I really, really do.
I think the whole Creepshow/Tales From the Darkside thing was just their love letter to the Twilight Zone. There were some great ones of those too.
I remember one with King actually in it. Some kind of farm. He's wearing dunagrees and lives in this wooden shack and green moss starts growing on everything. It was way over the top but had some charm.
I read King's book, Danse Macabre, interseting read, albeit long-winded (shock), and you can see the love the guy has for this kind of stuff.
Yes, I want to play. I really, really do.
Meteor shit!
This is why we can't have nice things.
That's right, heh. I remember that now.
Yes, I want to play. I really, really do.
I wanna see some lame science fiction b-movies, that suck yet rock at the same time! IS this like the Twilight Zone?
Ima stop hinting, give me all your dvds!
You look like the type of guy / gal, who would like:
Not really, no.
There are some meh ones. Being an anthology series, there are always going to be some misses, but there are many that are truly good short films.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Ima stop hinting, give me all your dvds!
Twilight Zone (original series) can be kinda cheesey in its effects (I mean c'mon. It's the early 60s) but most episodes have a message. Whether it be moral or political. Or a cruel twist of fate for someone who deserves it. Seriously watch it.
Just watch this already and if you like it, see more episodes.
Ima stop hinting, give me all your dvds!
Are you from some foriegn land? I don't remember if you ever said where you were from or not.
Either way, you ought to check out some MST3K for some great sci-fi B movies. They have running commentary full of jokes about how bad movies are.
The Infamous Manos Hands of Fate:

The SciFi channel went all to shit and became the SyFy channel. Fuck that noise.
And I like any 'Zone with Burgess Meredith in it.
