The Strokes
Is it just me or do the Strokes rule? Sure, they may not be the most talented band in the world, but damn do they make great music. Solid, very very fun music. It's a great listen for when you don't feel like Sigur Ros or GY!BE or Mogwai.
In short: the Strokes rule. They are not only a fun band to listen to, but they also seem to be having tons of fun as well.
I know I'm getting their new album, how about you guys?
i don't have their album (im too embarressed to buy it b/c of the pic on the front - so wude!) but from what i;ve heard i really like them. Last Night makes me wanna skank though, i'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing
Skanking is so retarded looking. The U.S. cover is different because RCA refused to accept it lol. And the new album comes out October something or another. Somewhere in the middle I know, like the 15th or something. I've heard some of the new songs and they're pretty good.

The mind is the limit. I am going to be the best personal trainer to ever exist on this earth. I am going to inspire, motivate, and change lives. I have that power. There is not a doubt in my mind that I can make you have an orgasm just from the power of my mind via the internet. I'm a giver like that. I can heal you. I can make you whole. That's Brock. That's what I do. Moving on...
i also am an avid strokes fan, and nothing annoys me more when people get pretentious about their strokes hatred..
you are completely right, they are not the most talented band ever.. their music might not be groundbreaking, or exceptionally innovative, but it is catchy as fuck. every song will get itself stuck into your head for days, which is actually quite satisfying.. as a complete album, is this it is extremely addictive, and gives whatever you are doing a feel of 'a little more crazy'. i love this band.
love.

I'm like that with The Donnas. They aren't groundbreaking. They aren't any better or that much worse than most female punk bands. I am still addicted to their classic/stolen riffs and bubblegum/basic lyrics...

Room on Fire better be as great as Is This It?
I've already heard 12:51 and it's a great song. But this song Reptilia is weird.
Julian's voice is very captivating, too, and the simple guitar riffs are unbelieveably catchy. The simple drum beats are easy to listen to, too. It's like Danny Carrey's complete opposite. Mr Fab is a cool guy though.
The thing about Julian is, I just can't put that voice to his face. The deep, manly voice does not match his, well....un-deep-and-manly look.

I skipped out on them live when I was at Lollapalooza. Was pissed that them bitches was taking up precious QOTSA time.

Yes, the Strokes do rule. People call them Ramones rip-offs but I don't agree.(I love the Ramones also.) They're fun to play (I bought their guitar tab book) and easy to sing along to- what more do you want?
Are they having a ton of fun though? Julian seemed very depressed a few months ago- and they all looked a bit washed out. Any girl wants to mother them, bake them bread and wash their hair - well, um, I do!
I loved the Strokes the minute they arrived on stage at Reading 2001. They were pretty new, and fresh. Although I got punched and kicked and swayed along with everyone else watching them (in a mad frenzy), it was worth it.
When's their new album coming out?
Why would you pay money to be shown how to play these songs? They're incredibly basic and easy.

Yeah but there's nothing like the feeling that you own something, to hold it in your hands. My reason for paying the incredibly inflated prices for CDs.
I have never heard so many people praise them. All I've heard since I heard of them, is people trashing them, saying their image is fake, their music is rip-off Ramones, and rip-off of other bands... etc.
They're catchy.

??? Are you talking to me? I was referring to the book of tablature that Snow White bought. Not only was it not necessary due to the extreme ease of the songs, but I'm sure tabs are readily available all over the internet. Tab books are rip offs. If you're going to be buying guitar books, you need the Grimoires, not tab books.

I understand that they're available on the internet. I use internert tabs all the time. But I'm saying, there's nothing like having the crisp book in your hands. Which I don't.

Yeah, but you're paying money for something that
A) The band won't see a dime off of
Is totally unnecessary given the ease of the songs
I'd say there's nothing quite like knowing you figured out a song by yourself, as opposed to having paid $15 to have someone show you, and more than likely show you the wrong way.

You got me there.
Is it true Nigel Godrich is the producer for the new album?
anyway, still think radiohead is better....but the strokes are great too.
i love the strokes, but that comparison was blasphemous.
for shame.

yes yes yes
life's pretty straight without vidalia :You_Rock_
Internet tabs are shite too in that case. They're usually wrong, and I do like having tab books. I'm a neat girl and hate having loose sheets of tablature hanging around- I ALWAYS lose them.
Anyway, tab books here are the equivalent of around about ten dollars, so it's not like it's draining away my allowance- plus, I get a lot of use out of the books, and anyway, I buy them every few months.

What's QOTSA? Um, Queensryche Overkill Tesla Sepultura Atari Teenage Riot? QOTSA... I hate bands that use abbreviated initials...

My bad... I should've realized you were referencing a future one-hit wonder hall-of-fame band... god they suck... I bet you love Linkin Park too...

You're comparing Queens of the Stone Age to Linkin Park?
Yeah. That makes alot of sense.
I would have to say that both are commercially-hyped and disposable pop. Neither is particularly horrible as such, but in five years, ten max, both will most likely have disappeared without any lasting impact.

I didn't know QOTSA were commercially hyped, I thought they were just an up and coming talent, because I heard about them from a friend. This is the problem when I don't pay attention to the music media. Everything is word-of-mouth from people I know and I give it all the same level of consideration.
QOTSA are no where near the absurdity that is Linkin Park. They've been around for a while, and almost 100% of their popularity is based on word of mouth. Their music is great, so where's the problem?
Linkin Park have "been around for a while", Queens have a publicity machine just like any other band you hear on the radio, and you like them. Nothing at all wrong with that. I couldn't care either way for either band. So what? But you are fooling yourself if you think that one is somehow morally or artistically superior to the other.
Musically superior.
