The Parting Shot
Sitting here watching the Hangover for the 50th time. This has got to have one of the best endings ever. It's just so perfectly fits.
So I started thinking about other films with those beautifully perfect endings.
I still think Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels has the greatest.
Then I was considering the Shawshank Redemption, but really, it's the last 20 minutes or so for it's ending. I'm thinking more along the lines of that one final scene or even just the last couple of seconds of a movie, like Inception.
Anyone else think of any good ones?
How about Rocky III! Surely the best ending of all those movies, maybe even better than the first one.
!
Se7en: head in a box
Empire Strikes Back: the defeat/hope ending
Holy Grail: The cops!
LOTR: Return of the King, the parting shot that takes place between minutes 93 and 182.
I feel this is necessary; Spoilers ahead.
Let the Right One In; Oskar in a train tapping kiss in morse code to Eli in the box, perfect.
Memento, where every thing just comes together and it all starts to make sense.
Fight Club, any film that ends with the complete destruction of three(?) city blocks is good in my books.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, it's a classic, what can I say.
The Thing; Kurt Russell and Keith David about what one of them could be the thing.
The Usual Suspects, reinforcing the stereotype that the crippled did it.
"The rat inside your brain rules the world."
Citizen Kane SUCKED!!!!!!! True fact.
Alcoholism is the cure not the disease.
IN-FUCKING-CEPTION
You know.
Memento
Protagonist turns antagonistic towards himself in the last scene.
Fight Club
Epic.
A Serous Man
The storm coming... like shit just couldn't get worse.
The Wrestler
Sad... makes you appreciate the people around you for what they do.
Burn After Reading
Hilarious ending.
Little Miss Sunshine
Probably my favorite ending from these picks. Aww, family.
The Godfather, Part I
Surprised nobody's mentioned this one.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
Dammit, BPL. Why you gotta read my mind? Can't believe it took over ten minutes to think of some good ones.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
Definitely the Wrestler. *SPOLIER*
Doesn't matter if you think he lives or dies, the resulting outcome will be tragedy. Perfect ending.
Gone Baby Gone; Casey Affleck(can we consider him more famous than his brother at this point) sitting with the little girl, he lost every thing to 'save'.
American History X; Edward Norton holding his dead brother Edward Furlong in his arms, after he rescued him form a bunch of idiot skinheads. Makes me think of South Park; you bastards.
2001 A Space Odyssey; the star child, what hasn't been said already.
The Hurt Locker; Jeremy Renner walking off into the sun, towards the only place he truly feels alive; war.
Blade Runner, the directors/finale cut of course, with Rachel Young and Harrison Ford in the elevator going toward a uncertain future
One Week; This is a little cheap because it relies more on the Narration of Campbell Scott, than the actually shot, but I'm putting in their just for being one of the best narration in movies.
Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, I know it was a TV series, but god dammit the ending for season 2, christ, I was Speechless.
The Wire, If I'm doing TV shows than I have to include The Wire. I suppose it was parting shots, but still watching everything go full circle, in a neverending cycle. What a perfect way to end one of the greatest television shows of all time.
"The rat inside your brain rules the world."
Citizen Kane SUCKED!!!!!!! True fact.
Alcoholism is the cure not the disease.
going with tv series too, the last 5 minutes of Carnivale season 1 with the fire and the preacher narrating it and then on top of that, the actual 2-3 second parting shot bit. First time I ever got shivers form watching such a good tv show.
The REAL ending to Scrubs is possibly the greatest ending to any series ever, except for Malcolm in the Middle, with Lois's last speech to Malcolm.
This isn't the full ending, but I couldn't find a video with this speech and the rest of the ending together. But the rest is also pretty fuckin' great.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
I love the ending of The Dark Knight.
if we're gonna go with tv shows, the ending of 6 feet under, i think was the best show ending....period...

Last ten seconds or so of The Omen.
Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
