I saw this film at Fright Fest on monday night and it is simply amazing. Best film I've seen in a while let alone just within the horror genre. I want to see it again already.

I sent a review to aint it cool which is here if anyone wants to read it:

it was incredibly creepy (hey basically it's set in a haunted orphanage and there's a creepy child in a mask which is just terrifying!) There were a couple of jumps that had the whole cinema out of their seats which was ace...jumps are always so predictable but not in this film. It's beautifully shot, awesome story, sad and touching while also being a great horror/thriller/ghost story.

It comes out in UK cinemas in December but I'm not sure about elsewhere. anyway I highly recommend it.

Another Guillermo Del Toro flick (besides Pan's Labyrinth) I'd highly recommend is El Espinazo del Diablo (The Devil's Backbone). Very solid, scary flick, same feel as PL with more of a horror bent. Great director. Never seen The Orphanage, though. I'll have to check it out.

the Orphanage isn't a del toro film, although he's one of the producers and I believe helped with the funding.
I agree Devil's Backbone is a great film but I just wasn't so keen on Pan's Labyrinth - it didn't live up to the hype at all. The orphanage is miles better in my opinion.
