The music at your funeral
I know this is a very morbid question, but, if you could arrange the music to be played after your own funeral service, what 10 songs would you have? Apologies to the sick bastard who probably thought up this kind of thread been done before.
1 Karma Police-Radiohead
2 Yesterday went too soon -feeder
3 Got you (where I want you)- The Flys
4 A design for life-Manic Street Preachers
5 You're So Vain- Carly Simon
6 The KKK took my baby away-Ramones
7 If you tolerate this then your children will be next-Manics (again)
8 Disarm- Smashing Pumpkins
9 You're my best friend- Queen
10 Secretly- Skunk Anansie
what a lovely high fidelity question.
let me see.. i would definitely have to have;
1. radiohead- exit music[for a film].. over and over
some others, but not as essential..more along the lines of suggestions...
2. some inspirational/trimphant theme songs that make people cry, a la rudy, star wars, rocky, oo.. and some more somber ones like; the truman show, the hours, schindlers list, forrest gump, scent of a woman, etc
3. some good joe cocker stuff
4. moby stuff.. i'm thinking porcelain would be great.
5. coldplay..trouble
6. stevie wonder music would definitely make people cry.. like isnt she lovely or something..
how sad..i must have issues since i am demonstratably trying to make people cry at my funeral..
7. elton john's tiny dancer would be nice.
8. ben folds; the luckiest
9. billy joel billy joel billy joel
10. some bealtes would be good too, lennon doing imagine, mccartney doing yesterday, all of them doing hey jude.
10.b. ben harper does a beautiful strawberry fields forever.
11. the rolling stones; angie [obvious..cheesy..but it has a nice tone to it]
11. old school louie armstrong or sinatra stuff would be nice.
although those are things that are likely easily thought of..ill have to make a mix tape and carry it around in my shoe just in case i die randomly, they will know what to play.
with a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he'll never know.
some very good ones there angela! I was thinking about moby, 'The Why does my heart feel so bad' one, and porcelain. Also, nearly put Exit music for a film.Love that song.
When I was younger I always thought I'd want Goodbye by Stabbing Westward, but hmm, now I'd have to think about that....
Meh, I was gonna say Exit Music, too, haha...
But ooo, I found it. Smashing Pumpkins - Thirty Three, would have to be it.
Runners up:
2) VNV Nation - Tempest or Left Behind
3) Vast - You
4) Clann Zu - You're Listening to a Dead Man Speak.. heh Or maybe Lights Below, The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea or The First and the Last.
5) Something by Cat Stevens
6) Something by Sigur Ros
7) NIN - The Great Below
8) SDRE - Pheurton Skeurto or Song About an Angel
9) Powerman 5000 - Watch the Sky for Me
10) Something by MSI, just to piss people off, haha.
1. Helmet - Unsung
2. Ramones - Pet Cemetery
3. Alice in Chains - Dirt
4. Tool - Eulogy
Primus - Bob
I crack myself up
Putting the Damage On--Tori Amos
"Requiem" from Mozart's Requiem mass
Goodbye Blue Sky--Pink Floyd
The Great Below--NIN
"The End" by the Beatles--just the part that goes "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."
i'm getting all weepy just thinking about this...

Wow. This little thread got CRAZY. People telling me to abuse my girlfriend, people showing an alarming lack of respect for women as a whole, people questioning my masculinity in some kind of bizarre machoistic pissing-contest. Hell, I even got called stuffy.
Stayin' Alive, just for the irony value.
One funeral I was at, four friends of the lad who had died played Tonite Tonite. That was...yeah.
Bah.
1. The Long and Winding Road by the Beatles
2. Danny Boy played on bagpipes (because that just makes me cry and it's one of my favorite songs)
3. Way over yonder by Carole King
4. Angle Band by the guy who did it on O Brother Where Art Thou?
My list is the odd man out, I think....*sigh* just like in real life.
There is hope, but not for us.
amazing grace, highland bagpipes and chorus
my way, sung by frank sinatra
from rags to riches, sung by tony bennet
beyond the sea, sung by bobby darin
mama tried, sung by merle haggard
i will, sung by dean martin
con te partiro, sung by andrea bocelli
last beat of my heart, sioxsie and the banshees
i'll think on it some more . . .
I'd only want two songs:
1.) "Across the Universe" by the Beatles
2.) "A Little Help from my Friends" Joe Cocker version.
a million bucks
1. "The Frail" by Nine Inch Nails awe-inspiring piano peice.
2. "The Power of Love" by Huey Lewis and the News because that song deserves to live forever.
3. "Lie In Our Graves" by The Dave Matthews Band
4. Any song by the relatively unknown Christian ska band Five Iron Frenzy
"Do you have 846 pounds of zinc? I don't!" -- The Laz.
"I was almost Six On Tha Dot. What a mistake that would have been." -- Six On The Dot
GOOD ones, AC. You and I think alike.
Aheffel, relatively unknown? What kind of people do you hang out with?! FIF is the schiznatch! Have you ever heard any of the pants songs?
There is hope, but not for us.

We're the culture that cried wolf.
its better be Black Box Recorder, or PULP. or Elvis.
if it was BBR, perhaps they could play:
'its only the end of world
not a death.. in the family...
weve seen all the best sights
been on all the best rides
and the amusement park...
we got tongue tied....
after all the best rides...
and now every caress
i some cul-de-sac,
weve already been down'.....
- think id like that very much.

Which song is that? Don't think I've heard, but I'm lovin' those lyrics. Thanks again for the recommendation, excellent band. Gotta love the girl's voice, all sultry (well, that's the wrong word, but to rip of Choke, it's the first one that comes to mind) and foreign and such. Yey.
Sarah Nixey - bird from Black Box Recorder- is like the sexiest sounds-like-i-wish-i-was-dead-chick. yum.
im glad your digging the BBR-- erm, and that song is 'Its Only the End of the World' -- im im rather fond of-- its kind of a way to 'deal with things' - a grab from the chorus of 'Child Psychology' -where it goes Life is Unfair, Kill yourself or get over it, which sounds really cold and mean, from this text, but when you hear it-- for those that dont yet know it, you giggle. or smile.
honest.
life's pretty straight without vidalia :You_Rock_
Haha, yeah, that line was in my AIM info for a bit. I like that song a lot, I'll have to find the other one. Not too much on Kazaa, but I'll keep up the search.
yeah, for some reason- unbeknownst to the common Wes-- they dont seem to release albums anywhere but Britian. eg. I had to get 'the Worst of BBR' for 40$AUD and the new album 'Passionioa' for 50$AUD. its such a bitch.
i still havent got 'The Facts of Life' - but on the 'worst of' - its got a few videos-- the 'Art of Driving' has a kooky little one, with John and Sarah --who i believe are now married IRL-- as crash test dummies.
life's pretty straight without vidalia :You_Rock_
That's too bad. (The import stuff, not the marriage stuff.)
I'm poor, so I will continue my pirating, sir.
indeed, and pirate away i say.
BBR are one of the few bands i care enough about- to actually spend ridiculous wads of cash on to have the Real McCoy.
anyway, when i get home from work- yes, im still here at 7pm- ( i am the gay ), i will find some more BBR lyrics that i want to be belted out at my demise. -- just so im not guilty of subverting the purpose of this thread.
love.
c u soon.

Marvin Gaye - Let's get it on
Beck - Mixed Bizness
Maroon 5 - Harder To Breathe
Foo Fighters - Stacked Actors
Radiohead - Pull/Pulk Revolving Doors
Muse - Micro Cuts
Nine Inch Nails - Starfuckers Inc.
Rage Against the Machine - Snake Charmer
The plan is, on snakecharmer, the pyrotechnics start, and by the end of the song, I have been propelled from my coffin, complete with both hands in \m/ position, and the lights are flashing on and off, then, the strippers come onstage.
Seriously though,
Nine Inch Nails - Leaving Hope
Radiohead - Motion Picture Soundtrack
Gary Jules - Mad World
Sigur Ros - Vaka
Smashing Pumpkins - Melloncollie and the Infinite Sadness
The Innocence Mission - Moon River
Radiohead - No Surprises
Eels - Manchild
Stina Nordenstam - Little Star
Bjork - Frosti
Then, complete with disco-ball,
Thick - When I get you alone.
nice playlist- im rather impressed at the alleged pyrotechnics... and that amazing avatar.
'youre compliment was sufficient Louis.....'
' i want YOU too Patrick...'
haha, what a fop.
life's pretty straight without vidalia :You_Rock_
On second thought, I demand they play circus music at my funeral.
a million bucks
Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy
With marquee lights on the coffin and a big white and red target on my chest. Bucket of tomaters at the entrance, which would be a big iron gate.
if you want to really put people off kl0p. then play the Come to Daddy (Faulteroy Mix). it has some really unpleasant sounds. or Gwarek 2- where most of the track is made up of a woman screaming.

Sounding good so far. Here's the rest of what I can currently think of:
-Amazing Grace played on the bagpipes (word to framstedt)
-Exit Music (For a Film) (like angelanicole, I would be content having this on loop. Of couse, I'll be dead so if it started getting annoying, I really wouldn't care.
)
-Perfect Day - Lou Reed
-Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven
I'd want it to start off in a bit of a somber mood, and then have it progress into a wave despite the fact that I've not a drop of Irish blood in me. I don't really know what would be played at the party bit, but it'd be good, let me tell you.

Perhaps made especially relevant if you kick it, with a needle in your arm.

All right, am completely in love with Rents now. I didn't know anyone under 40 knew about this song! Also Pathetique!
There is hope, but not for us.
Jane- Oh my, yes. One of my favorite classical pieces. I actually started learning to play the piano just to learn that song. Never worked out unfortunately. I'm a fan of classical and opera, though people aren't so warm about the opera.
Wes-Hell yeah. I can totally picture them lowering me into my grave on a red carpet. I'd only wish I was conscious to see that. Puts a grin on my face.
Funeral music? How morbidly brilliant a suggestion! You're putting the fun back into FUNeral.
1. Whispering Pines, by The Band.
2. The love theme from Cinema Paradiso, by Ennio Morricone.
3. I wish I knew how it could be to be free, by Nina Simone.
4. Alseep, by the Smiths.
5. Let it lose, by the Rolling Stones.
6. The first part to Golden Slumbers, by the Beatles.
7. The end section of Layla, by Eric Clapton.
8. It's been a long time coming, by Sam Cooke.
9. Peace frog, by The Doors.
10. Either Cannonball by the Breeders, or if I'm cremated, Disco inferno.

i recently had this conversation with my father...it was the serious, 'when i die' conversation you never really want to have with your parents, but whatever, it's gotta be done. anyway, he told me he wants to be cremated (who knew?) and he wants us to play "great gig in the sky" by pink floyd for him. which is touching, i suppose.
Oh fuck me, I just watched the Virgin Suicides and just play the whole damn soundtrack that Air did for that... Good lord, fucking beautiful music. Good movie, too.

Hello Manky.
I have an avatar i think you might like.
Everyone, you know what one i mean.

There have been many great choices so far and many I agree with. But ones absence that surprises me is:
Queen - Another One Bites the Dust
I'm going to have to add
Otis Redding - Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay
We're the culture that cried wolf.

I also forgot to add, I'm the resurrection, by the Stone Roses.

Damn, dude, kick ass taste in funeral music. I'm adding this too.
I would have no music, nor any people. I would have not funeral at all.
why?
My family does not belive in funerals. Death is natural, why mourn over it? (this isn't an actual question for anybody, but how my family thinks. Some think Why?, we think Why bother?)
wow. Intense. I know you weren't directing the question for answer, but I guess the reason people mourn is because a someone significant in their life is now gone and isn't ever coming back. I could argue that mourning is just as natural as death.

How 'about opening the funeral with John Phillip Souza's 'The Liberty Bell' (known, perhaps best, as The Theme to Monty Python's Flying Circus) Then you could close with P & C.
That would be a fun funeral!
