The Flaming Lips
Music passed down from the heavens.
When I walk through the Earth, I get stuck in the middle. - King Biscuit Time
wait, not wrong thread. Talk about the flaming lips, they are on tour right now with the red hot chilli pepers. Both bands have been around for 20 years.

i am so in love with the flaming lips. i love them, their animal costume obsession, and their music. they are spectacular.
with a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he'll never know.
I first heard about them on the beck tour and from that moment on, after he played waiting for superman they have been my favorite band. I'm going to see them on the 9th of october and I got to hang out with them over the summer once after a show.

Anyone listen to Zaireeka? I want it I want it I want it.
Yeah it's a bitch though. I found it on Soulseek where the guy put all four tracks of the songs into one mp3.
you know what is really cool! the flaming lips are going to be on a comp with AVRIL LEVIGNE!
from tinymixtapes.com:
I'd Rather Take Coal Than This Crap: Flaming Lips, Rufus, Avril Join Hands For New Comp
You can see the pitch meeting for this one. Rows of severely-tanned gentlemen in matching suits. A sun-drenched California visible for miles (if it wasn't for that damn smog) outside the high-rise windows. The rows of men (and women) gazing intently as two dweebs armed with Magic Markers and posterboard scribble furiously. The gawkers stammering and pontificating as cell phones tremble and whine.
This is the type of album that makes you cringe. Somewhere a group of horribly powerful people are combining the best of "pop music," "adult contemporary," and "indie rock" (for that special zing!), packaging it and attempting to release it on the public for mass consumption by intelligent-music deprived legions. Merry Christmas everybody! Here's your "musically diverse" compilation album, its a real winner! Yes it's become readily apparent that the Flaming Lips will DO ANYTHING. This includes (but is not limited to) special appearances at jamband festivals, 90210, and the "damn, who'd a thought i'd ever get tired of this beautiful fucking song" regurgitation of "Do You Realize?" on VH1 commercials.
Yes, I watch VH1. "I Love The 70's" is monumentally good television.
Anyways.
The comp is entitled Maybe This Christmas Too, and yes folks its the sequel to last year's Maybe This Christmas. The album features tracks by Barenaked Ladies, Rufus Wainwright, Guster, Damien Rice, Dave Matthews Band, Rilo Kiley, Badly Drawn Boy, and Avril Lavigne with Chantal Kreviazak (whom I had never heard of but my girlfriend thinks is hot shit). The Flips provide a cover of Bing Crosby's immortal holiday classic, "White Christmas".
The album is due in stores November 4th.
Bah Humbug.
The tracklisting for this monstrosity is:
1. Rufus Wainwright - 'Spotlight on Christmas'
2. Eisley - 'The Winter Song'
3. Avril Lavigne and Chantal Kreviazik - 'O Holy Night'
4. Rilo Kiley - 'Xmas Cake'
5. Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan - 'Silent Night'
6. Guster - 'Donde Esta Santa Claus?'
7. Be Good Tanyas - 'Rudy'
8. Dave Matthews Band - 'Christmas Song'
9. Oh Susanna - 'Go Tell It on the Mountain'
10. Barenaked Ladies - 'Green Christmas'
11. Martina Sorbera - 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year'
12. Badly Drawn Boy - 'Donna and Blitzen'
13. The Flaming Lips - 'White Christmas'
14. Sixpence None the Richer - 'It Came Upon a Midnight Clear'
i cant believe someone called the flaming lips the american radiohead. unbelievable.
THE FLAMING LIPS ARE SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN radiohead.
Radiohead can't even touch them. Thom Yorke writes the same songs over and over and over again with his same boring moaning. It was cool for awhile but then when HTTT came out you realized that it wasn't a coincidence they sound the same, he just can't write songs differently. Since the days of creep they have had a formula and have yet to change it. Even though they change instruments and make their songs a little weirder they are still the same band they were 10 years ago.
The Flaming Lips change every CD (keep in mind they never had the critics to worry about like radiohead did) they are so innovative and beautiful and all their songs sound different. They may have themes for their CDs but at least they sound different and try new stuff. Radiohead can't try new things because they are a bunch of spoiled brats who never had to work a real job. Wayne coyne worked 11 years at a fast food joint while trying to make it big. He sweat blood into his records, he used every penny he had to make them. Thom Yorke got a record deal and has never had to work since. He is a pathetic person and he cries and moans all day because of how rich he is and how famous he is. Look at Wayne Coyne he is happy as can be, he appreciates his success and loves his fans. When I saw the flaming lips we were hanging out after the show and Wayne and Stephen came and hung out with me for 30 minutes. That is a fucking musician. Not some ass hole who won't sign your autograph with a smile.
Fuck Radiohead, fuck them up their stupid little asses.

hell yeah funny meat
Radiohead sucks, Flips are great.
That Fight Test EP is really worthwhile.
Pair a dice hotell
so that ep IS good, i wasnt sure if i should pick it up. now im sure
Well, it's basically acoustic songs. I think there's two or three cover songs (the cant get you out of my head by whatever her name is and knives out by radiohead) and this song about jackwhite. Then theres Fight test and a bad technoschlamschlam song.
Oh yeah, and a Beck cover.
i smell a fight comin' on...
but not from me...i'll save my energy for cabin fever
