the fighter
i caught this today with true grit. i thought this movie was great, the performances were solid all around, but i thought it centered a little heavy on his family. it was like: hey watch these people be dysfunctional, and then hey in the depth of field, some guy wins the title. but then again thats how those kinds of families are, i suppose.

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”
-James Baldwin

That's like saying you didn't like it b/c there weren't any pandas. If you want to watch a panda movie go find one. I think it's a weak complaint to dislike a movie b/c of what it was about. This guy's family had huge issues and it was what the movie was about. All of the shit, not just the boxing parts.
