B ) I've done collaborations like this before via online with people I've never met. Over at NIN.com. It's a lot of fun and never turns out how you expect, but is rarely disappointing, so long as people have input during production/mixing.

C ) Who is really that concerned about being awkward once in a while? Like posting mostly naked pics of ourselves is fine, but doing something creative together is not?

So whatever. I have the guitar stuff figured out, and I have some time probably next weekend to record.

Anyone else who is still into it, I'm on board.

I think we should do this once every other month or so. It'd be a blast.

This just made me realize that I need to state this if I haven't already. Before I commit myself to this, I need to know the band we're doing. I'm fine NIN, but for the love of CP don't make me do a Slipknot or Atreyu or even As I Lay Dying song! I don't know what FFDP stands for.

First off, it's myriad alone, not 'a myriad of'.

Second, you may be the queen of many things, things I will not venture to guess, but you're not the queen of the Cult, despite what you and many others may think.

Don't get me wrong, people like you. I have at times, even. I've tried to make things right, but you apparently have no interest in that, so I wash my hands of the situation.

The thing you need to remember is this is a community.

You don't get to simply decide what is cool, who gets to have fun, and what projects will be successful. This is one more case where I cannot fathom the point of jumping into a thread in which you have no intention of actually being involved only to say that the people who are trying to make it happen will fail.

Many things have failed many times only to work out one final time. Maybe this is that final time, maybe it isn't, but you don't get to decide that.

I'd hate to see this project lose steam and fail simply because another Cult member decided to piss all over it as you are. If you want it to fail, you probably can kill the whole thing by continuing to be a jerk. That would be sad, but that is often the sway your dissent carries around here.

Or you can wait and see what happens.

So again, we are actually sticking to the topic and trying to build enthusiasm. Go rain on someone else's parade.

I still want to do the camera-mail thing someone started a thread about months ago. I was last on the list, and the one who was supposed to develop the film, so I don't know if it just hasn't reached me yet. It's probably become just another failed cult project, but it woulda' been cool. Maybe we could start it up again and only let people do it who are known to follow through? Kinda' like Levi did with secret santa?

We're going to need to input a lot of effort to make this good. This song is a little too pop-like for me. Not bad though. I have an old, out of tune bass and recording program (Audacity), but no amp as you already know. If we do this once a month, is this going to be one song per month or fragments of one song per month? If the second case, how many months would be spent on one song?

Mikerocuts: What format do you need the files to be in? I can record directly into Garage Band, so if you're on a Mac that should be easy. Otherwise I could export them into a few other formats, MP3 being the most universal (and easiest to do.)

Also, if I record several takes for the different amp/effects modes, do you want me to send you a mixed down master take, or three or four that you can mix together later? There're a few different layers on the recording and I want there to be some of that flavor on ours if possible.

Also, what recording equipment does everyone else have access to?

Well, mikerocuts is sort of running this thing (at least I think so) ... so as I understand it, we're each recording our own parts and then sending them to him.

I'm just going to sit and record into my laptop, do a few different takes, then email them to him. After that, it's out of my hands.

That's all I know.

Works for me. However, I think that since you have experience here and I don't think Mike does that you should probably lead this or at least be the advisor on it. We need better communication with all participating members haha.

Well, I certainly wouldn't just bump him since he started this as his baby.

But it might help to get a head count and then define our roles; name, instrument, etc... to sort of get an idea where we're at. That'd be nice.

I'm taking off for a little while or I'd comb the thread for those details right now.

And we should also set a dead line. That is always a good motivator to get the serious people moving and cull off those who aren't really into it.

All I have to record with is a digital camera, which I'm fine with singing into if no one minds me not looking at the camera! But, really, if that won't work I'll be sad. I think even if it comes out sounding a little weird, that'll just add to the ambiance of this whole thing. I'll record my bit anytime, but I just wanna make sure that recording it via video will work!!

True. I don't know if I'm too serious yet. I might check through it in about 15. I suggest a back-up bassist though.

Dude... wait... what if we did it like one of those YouTube mashups?

Like, we each have the tune playing in our headphones, maybe just one ear, or what have you, then we play/sing along on video? It'd be super easy to put four or five videos into one frame, we'd all easily be in the same key and tempo automatically as well.

This way we don't have to worry about finding audio equipment for people without home-recording experience, matching up file formats... then synching tempos or keys or what-have-you.

That could kick ass, too.

Or just do the recording. Either way. But a video-ensemble could be way cool.

I haven't started recordning anything yet. I think I'll wait a few days before I do. I'm not feeling too rushed on this cos I think if we rush it we might not get the best outcome, so I'm taking my time and getting the feel.

Back when I was a music pastor, we'd pick a new tune and learn it in less than a week, quite often, actually.

Thanks to doing that for several years, I work fast and memorize music rather quickly, but that shouldn't put pressure on anyone else to hurry.

Doesn't matter to me. We should try to see this one through for the moment. If people start dropping out, then maybe we'll go another direction.

One thing to consider. It may be easier to do an original as others have suggested, or even a remix. I have a few Garageband files of stuff here and there, multi track files made for remixing. Mostly NIN, but a few other artists too, on an old external HD somewheres.

But anyway for the moment, let's stay the course, see how it goes, then plan for anything further later.
