um, ok asshole--that's the PREMISE of the movie. that's known from moment one. it's written all over the box for chrissake. look at the big red picture up there...see the star of david on top of the guy doing the seig heil? it's kinda established even before the movie starts.

my, my, there are a lot of them, aren't there. well, all i can say is that "the believer" is a cut above most movies i've seen in any genre.

I wasn't that impressed by this movie. The premise is original and some of the dialogues are thought-provoking, but as a straight-up movie --that is: characters, storyline, editing, pacing, etc.-- I thought it suffered. It's one of those movies that spends way to much time being about "what it's about."
Also, as someone who is somewhat of the Jewish persuasion I'd like to testify that Ryan Gosling looks NOTHING like a NYC Jew. His scenes with his extremely Jewish family were laughable to me; he looked like he was adopted! I love how whenever a major film about anti-semitism gets made they always cast some buff blue-eyed giant like Brenden Fraser as the Jew. Ha.

interesting criticisms, andy. i like the fact that it wasn't just TIHS MOOVEY SUCKDE BEACUZ I DEDENT UNDARSTEND IT!!!!!1!!!111!!!

you have an especially valid point with the casting of ryan gosling. my thought, being non-jewish, is that jews don't really "look" like anything. he "looks" a lot more jewish in the beginning with the curly hair, and i've known a number of jewish-"looking" guys with his coloring. it didn't bother me but at times i did think that compared to his family it was weird.

i guess maybe you're also right with the whole movie being to into "what it's about". but so many movies are not about ANYTHING right now that i was grateful for the substance, and willing to let a lot of things go.

i did have trouble with piecing together the ultimate "message" of the film. but i don't want to spoil it so maybe you and i can correspond via PM? or email?

This movie wasn't in theatres, I believe. I think it premiered on Showtime, if I'm correct, which I believe I am.

billy zane is in this movie too. so i will watch it.

except in titanic, when he was definately not hot.
