Stoner rock

I never understood the title stoner rock though, I enjoy a lot of those bands, and I don't get stoned that much. Maybe I should start?

Stoner rock was just a term the marketing people made up.

Josh Homme defined it as bands that surrender themselves as slaves to the music in their heads.

See im a child of the eighties where i believe the term stoner originated. But in my little click there were rules for what stoner music was..this of couse was mostly pre-grunge days.
These are the bands that didnt qualify:

and other hairspray/makeup glam bands

in my gooup where we all smoked Marlboro red 100s wore black reeboks concert shirts, chain wallets, and jeans with the frayed and holy knees these were the bands that sang for us

I'm not sure what kind of music you listen to. but all my friends, and pretty much all other stonner i know listen to mostly jam bands. todays jam bands are what most stonners listen to. Stonners appreciate creativity and originality along with just sick musical ability.

Phish - will always just be number 1. not saying their music is the best, but their shows are the fucking best.

drew, those bads are fucking hippie donkeyshitcakes except for beck, doors, ween, and les claypool is alright sometimes. The only claypool I ever liked was Sailing the Seas of Cheese, Pork Soda and Purple Onion. I haven't heard Sausage though.

Drew those bands are good. It's folk music, it's blues-based rock, it's the blood of the common man, the sweat of the brow of the earth, sure it's not all there is to know and it's annoying to steep yourself in a single flavor of reality, but the black crowes are good!

While you're at it, would Bob Marley and the wailers and Ani DiFranco be part of a list like that? Is Ani Difranco too female singer-songwriter or can she span genres for the purpose of assignment of categories?
