Songs that just utterly tear you apart
“The man of knowledge must be able not only to love his enemies but also to hate his friends.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche
This may be my favourite thread since I mostly listen to this kinda music.
I love Brel's and Nina Simone's versions as well, but there's something about this one that makes my heart melt.
Please, you cannot compare him with that one :

I'm a great lover of Brel and I'm not saying Molko's version is better. It just touches me more. But this one...
“The man of knowledge must be able not only to love his enemies but also to hate his friends.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche
Acid Bath reminds me of my sister.
I've actually met the singer (Dax Riggs) here in Austin. He's a quiet little fellow. He lives here, plays his solo stuff around town a lot, and its really good. And another from Dax.
“The man of knowledge must be able not only to love his enemies but also to hate his friends.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche
This song has caught me on a few occasions most recently.
This song used to kill me
Thanks pepper for making me feel super ghey by making this thread and to complete the gheyness I shall add the Coldplay song that made me lose it once inexplicably
I thought only Romanians wrote 'ghey'. It's because the group 'ghe' actually reads that way.
Pretty Much anything by these guys. Such an underrated band,
“The man of knowledge must be able not only to love his enemies but also to hate his friends.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche
And yeah, Chasing Cars is a song that always gets me.
Shhh....
This is why we can't have nice things.
Oh my god.
Yeah, Ne me quitte pas was a goddamn amazing song.
Impressive, isn't it ?

Pretty amazing, yes.
This too.
.
.
I know it by heart and every time it gets to "ça ne veut plus rien dire du tout" tears well up.
Excellent choice Irina !
Try this one for size. Sicilian style :
It took a major pair of balls for such a prestigious artist to sing the story of a drag queen, definitely one of the greatest songs about homosexuality (Youtube link includes the lyrics) :

I don't really want to open up my soul in this thread but I love this song and the Grace album. Tim Buckley is even better than Jeff though.
This is such a sad song especially covered by the great Johnny Cash... and an even sadder video.
“The man of knowledge must be able not only to love his enemies but also to hate his friends.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche
Johnny Cash is wonderful. I think I still like NIN's versions of Hurt better though.
This Cash song always gets me.
.
.
yep. that was the one i was looking for.

Why are you deleting things?
She's silly.
"For most of this century, scientists have worshiped the hardware of the brain and the software of the mind; the messy powers of the heart were left to the poets."
Also this-
"For most of this century, scientists have worshiped the hardware of the brain and the software of the mind; the messy powers of the heart were left to the poets."
Ah, fuck it.
Tears me up cause of an ex. That's kind of pussified I admit but my life really, really sucks right now any way.
The only difference between a religion and a cult is a popularity contest.
Good choices, new guy.
Thanks

Really, that's a whole album designed to shred your soul.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Breaking my rules and saying why for this one.
When my brother was very little, four or five, he knew all the words to this song and you would hear him singing it to himself all over the house, he would also serenade anyone who asked with it.
I'm surprised no one mentioned My Heart Will Go On. Am I the only one?
No.
This is why we can't have nice things.
The summer before 3rd grade, I had a secret girlfriend at summer camp. We had to keep it secret from her parents. She's the most serious girlfriend I ever had (sounds ridiculous, but these things happen). At the time, My Heart Will Go On was on the Top 5 countdown every night at 9 pm when I was going to bed, and I'd lie there and listen to the song and think about this girl that I liked so much.
Also,
This entire album.

wow
One of my all time favorite albums. Liar is also a great, great song.

This song and this entire album.
"For most of this century, scientists have worshiped the hardware of the brain and the software of the mind; the messy powers of the heart were left to the poets."
She is great! Love that song too.
