Sigur Ros
I've heard many good things about this band. What do you think of them? Is it worth buying their album? And who do they sound like?
i have heard of this band. i now feel obligated to check them out. i will report back soon. that is all.
They are excellent meditative/background music. Pretty much anything by them, "()" or "Agaetis Byrjun" which are their only two US releases, is good.
I'm split between the two, personally... as much as I like all of the stuff on Agaetis, Vaka and Njosnavelin off of () are just heavenly.
Yeah, I'm a little bit of a fan.
"Staralfur" to me, is their best track."Olsen Olsen" from Agaetis is good too. i feel that agaetis has a grander feel then () and prefer it to () as i can't stand the last 4 tracks of (). The 1st 4 are great though.
I just listened to a track. They're not speaking english, right? I'm not insane?
They speaky hopelandish. It's a made up language, so no, not english, and not any other specific language. Though I think they've been known to say an english word or an icelandic word every once in a while, it's moreso for phonetics sake than what the word means.

agaetis byrjun is the better of the two in my opinion. the second album () is hopelandish, i think they are speaking their native tongue on agaetis byrjun.
Touche. It looks like they sang in icelandic on pretty much all of the pre-() songs, save for the songs "Von" and "Olsen olsen", which were Hopelandic.
But all of () is Hopelandic.

I have adored Sigur Ros like you wouldn't believe for ages. I would have to say that I prefer ( ) - I mean, the nothing song.... if that doesn't blow you away...
They performed in my town earlier this year for Sundance, and they ended the set with the nothing song. It was the best show I have ever seen.
I've heard them compared to Mogwai, but I don't think that does them justice. Although I love Mogwai. They are just in their own world.
Incidentally, I can't listen to them as background music. It irritates me. They require my full attention to enjoy it.
Von is not bad, but not nearly as worth picking up as the other two.

Friend of mine let them practice in his house down town, he´s in a band called atingere. I've met the drummer few times there, but I don´t know them. The house got broken into one time and lot of their stuff got stolen. After that they bought an old pool out side Reykjavik and they have their own studio there.

you totally have to be in the right mood. and that mood for me is usually either approaching sleep or on fluffy comedowns. its not particularly amazing, its fucking whale music for christs sake, or like dolphins. and yeah too laid back, very visual though. i tells ya scandinavians are all fuckin tapped mate.

They are awesome, so soothing, totally worth the money i dont know who they sound like but their music definitly has a iclelandic ambience to it.
