sellout of the day
the sellout for the day is....(drumroll)....
Sting!!!
Sting recently appeared in a commercial about the internet, in which the concept of the video was everyone says how great his new video is.
Sting, you will receive your certificate of achievement in the in the mail within 5-7 days, which awards you for your combined efforts to sell not only the internet product (sorry-the idea was so incredulous and i was laughing so hard i forgot the product name) but also your acievements in the Jaguar category. We commend you on your quest to get even richer, while the rest of us are busting their ass in college and will be paying off student loans for the rest of their lives.
who, me? im not bitter or jealous of success.....
la-dee-da
i say good one for sting.
i applaud his success, and his achievements.
be proud of success, don't shun it.
he always sucked.
What are you saying, Trypd? Fuck the dolphins? That is harsh.
didnt he sell out a few years ago with a commercial????
stings a huge prick.
alls im saying is, whatever happened to doing art for art's sake?
its not like Sting needs a commercial to play every ten minutes or otherwise he's not going to sell any albums. my definition of success is not needing props from some corporation to make money. especially if you are already filthy rich. if it was some new artist, id say, "hey good on ya. do what you can to get your name out there."
but its not. its STING. its Sting being paid to do a commercial, and the commercial is selling Sting.
same goes for moby--- sold the rights to every one of his songs on Play. i know he's an artist nobody has ever heard of, so good thing he did that.
la-dee-da
i dont care, i like sting regardless.
"I wasn't like every other kid, you know, who dreams about being an astronaut, I was always more interested in what bark was made out of on a tree. Richard Gere's a real hero of mine. Sting. Sting would be another person who's a hero. The music he's created over the years, I don't really listen to it, but the fact that he's making it, I respect that. I care desperately about what I do. Do I know what product I'm selling? No. Do I know what I'm doing today? No. But I'm here, and I'm gonna give it my best shot. "
with a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he'll never know.

Actually, it's a lot like that. His album had tanked before the Jaguar commercial revived it in a huge way. Music videos are commercials for the albums anyway.
Plus, he isn't exactly betraying any deeply held punk convictions...
It's not easy having a good time.
Even smiling makes my face ache.

People people people. Sellout? SELLOUT? Think about what you are saying. That term is tossed about WAY too much these days. Get a grip. Sting never said he didn't want money or fame. Neither did Moby. Good lord. They want to make money and hock their wares, they do what they need to. These are not indie garage bands looking to share their music. Hell, indie garage banks aren't just looking to share their music. They want to be signed to a label. Sell their albums for money. Shut up with your sellout crap. It is getting old.
"Dude! I can't believe Bad Religion played Leno!"
"Dude! I can't believe Girls Against Boys went major label!"
"Dude! I can't believe Mogwai let Levis use their song!"
Meh.
I hate sting sellout or legit, what levi commercial was MOGWAI in? As long as an artist, when making it big doesnt water down his music for the sake of the masses im okay with a major label band. but there arent to many good ones out right now that i can think of. or are there?

The one with the two models walking down empty city streets. The Buffalo come running at them. They hold hands and stand strong. Gag.
The song was Summer
“Don't hate us. We must eat.” - 'Gwai

ahhh. a passionate reaction. so refreshing. one of the best ways to get a real post, versus a neutral cynical comment, is to state a firm opinion about something. anything.
fabulous.

Meh.
Those are awll awful bands, and they've always been awful. idiot people, i.e. most, just "liked" them because they weren't popular when they started out.
i dont care, i don't like sting regardless.

that sounds like a very odd Native American tribal name.

Wow. This little thread got CRAZY. People telling me to abuse my girlfriend, people showing an alarming lack of respect for women as a whole, people questioning my masculinity in some kind of bizarre machoistic pissing-contest. Hell, I even got called stuffy.
no. that is why i am bitter
la-dee-da
speaking of songs in commercials, anyone see that new commercial for some digital camera with the cure's "pictures of you"?
No. Anyone seen the perfume commercial with Dylan's "Love Sick"?
He's even selling the new material now. *rubs temples*
It's not easy having a good time.
Even smiling makes my face ache.
it usually works the opposite way "bills, don't you have any?""YES, that's why i'm bitter"
oops. thought the referece was to DOLLAR bills for some reason.
suppose i thought insomno was using "hip" slang, as in "i have a wad of bills in my pocket".
so, yes, i am bitter for TWO reasons: i have bills, but no dollar bills to pay them, as i am a poor college student with a crappy job.

Yeah, dude. That sucks! I mean, sting is the man! He didn't get into music to make money, he did it for the dolphins, man. Sellouts suck! They forced him to come out of his garage and start playing music for people, man. He just wanted to make good tunes for the dolphins, man. Fuck. I guess I will have to burn my sting albums now. I wonder how sting albums were made... I bet they forced him to make albums and sell them. I bet they forced him to sign that recording contract. Man, that sucks, Sting! Do it for the dolphins, man!
