Radiohead vs. Muse
I'm reserving my opinion for now, but which band is better?
RADIOHEAD or MUSE?
-Maxwell Black
Though I like Muse, this question is really pretty silly.
Radiohead.
Radiohead. No contest.
Without Radiohead there probably wouldn't even be a Muse.

I didn't want to say that, but she's so right.
Radiohead.
And kit you're so right.

The Beatles.
Beethoven
this made me laugh.

Fallacy detected! That's like saying someone's pissed off drunk of a dad is better than his more refined badass of a son simply because he wouldn't be here without him.
That said, I prefer Muse.

I have said something very similar to that before. And think about; the dads a drunk so he can't function all that well, the kids has more years on him. So thats one less degenerate left with another one about to top over compared to the two if the kid was around. I'm just saying.

Not really, unless the son is actively trying to be like the father.
And did you just imply that Muse are more refined than Radiohead? That's funny.
Quffed for truff.
RADIOHEAD or MUSE?
How the hell could Muse be better than Radiohead??
Now go wash your mouth out with soap...
Yeah, Radiohead.
Michael Aston or Jay Aston?

Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
I don't even particularly like Radiohead, or Muse for that matter, but it's obvious to me that Radiohead are superior. It's not even a fair contest. It's like putting Kings of Leon up against The Beatles or something.
Hey! You got your chocolate in my peanut butter!

So you're saying Muse is actively trying to be like Radiohead? Ummm... nah, I don't see it.
I wasn't implying anything. Just pointing out an example of where that logic fails.

Not so much that they are now, but their early releases were definitely Radiohead influenced.
Actually, under their own list of influences, they don't even mention Radiohead.

Would you? I think Bellamy's singing style owes a fair bit to Thom Yorke.
He actually says it was more influenced by Jeff Buckley. We'll naturally hear similarities we want to hear between different musical pieces, but they often extend from third party sources. I mean, it's not like either of them define space rock, but because of space rock's rarity, we'll think anyone that falls into that category was influenced by someone else in that category that we're already familiar with. Thom Yorke uses falsetto like Bellamy, so I could see why you would hear the similarity, but his vibrato isn't nearly as defined as Bellamy's.

Isn't Muse the one that had that "We. Will. Be. Vic - Torioussss! " song that they used for all those V promos? I hate that song and them solely because of that.
I don't think I've ever heard anything else by them.
Muse is way better and way more interesting than Radiohead.
If you wanted to compare apples to apples - it should have been Radiohead vs. Coldplay, where obviously Radiohead is much superior.
Muse = ROCK
Radiohead = Adult Contemporary or Easy Listening
Coldplay = wussy shit that surprisingly has a huge following, would make for the most boring concerts ever
Think for yourself. Question Authority.
Well yes, Bellamy has a more defined vibrato, he's a different singer. To be influenced by doesn't mean you have to sound exactly alike. Bellamy doesn't sound exactly like Jeff Buckley, either. It's not just about sound, it's a lot to do with pacing and phrasing, too.
My original comment about without Radiohead there would be no Muse, is as much to do with the influence (perceived or otherwise) that they had on Muse, as the fact that the success of Radiohead really opened up record companies to signing bands that had a similar sound. The likes of Muse, Elbow, Mogwai, The Beta Band, Doves, etc got signed a lot more easily because every A&R man was looking for the next Radiohead.

I think you need to make some research on your genre definitions there.
You know... I gotta go with bassplr19 on this one. Muse has the best concerts. Oh my god, do their concerts kick ass. There's a time and a place for them. Radiohead, to me, is better suited for just chillin' out in your room. I do actually prefer Radiohead for just kickin' it.
But c'mon, Coldplay isn't too bad. I like some of their songs (the old mainstream ones that wound up on Guitar Hero).

Muse are better live than on record, I'll give you that. But Radiohead also put on an amazing live show.

That I can see (although I have my reservations). But the way you worded it made it sound as if you were saying Radiohead was better because they pioneered something, when all of Muse's influences came from music before Radiohead's time, and some from during, like Rage. They weren't actively trying to be like Radiohead, is what I'm saying. Yes, they sound similar, in the same way that any two musicians sound alike when in similar genres, but both could've been influenced by a third party (which actually is the case here). But in any case, I wouldn't even say the bands, in general, sound similar. Muse is way more into synthesizers and other elements of space rock, and their guitar is more focused on beat than melody (like Rage), as opposed to Radiohead. So, no, I wouldn't say the two are similar enough to the point that you would say Muse is liked because Radiohead was liked.

I'll agree that they aren't too bad and I don't mind the GH Coldplay songs, but cannot understand how they got HUGE!!
Radiohead, I can understand they made an amazing album and had some other good songs, but are mostly kind of bland.
Muse just makes incredible music and it's exciting (aside from their latest - relative snoozefest)

This post hurts my feelings.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
I'm wondering which Radiohead album you think is the 'amazing' one, bassplr
If he says Pablo Honey I'ma cry.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
Silly Thread is getting sillier.
I'm gonna go ahead and start the Beatles VS Stones thread now.
Or maybe the Smiths VS Cure one.
Or, Brand New VS Taking Back Sunday (as homage to my younger years).
What are some of the other musical rivalries?
Bob Dylan VS Everyone Else (we won't go there because it's too obvious who will win)
Townes Van Zandt was a better songwriter than Bob Dylan.
There! I said it!
But I do love Van Zandt.
Also, to bring back the 'there wouldn't be so and so without so and so' point: there probably wouldn't be a Van Zandt without a Dylan. He used to play a bunch of Dylan's tracks when he first started playing.
Thread LOL of the Day Award goes to:
Matthew O'Donnell for his performance in "You're Wrong"! Congratulations!
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
It's a good song. I just wish it played the chorus first, for the purpose of the post.
Muse is like the worst of Keane and Queen blended together with a healthy dose of pretension.
Also the biggest cunts I knew in high school were Muse fanatics so I'm being biased as fuck right now.

Radiohead.
