PERFECT MOVIES THREAD
I've seen so few horror/thriller movies that I remember them all. The Others was the best.
I seem to remember being disappointed with The Others. It relied way too heavily on sudden loud noises to scare the audience. One of the first horror movies I ever saw. Until I was about 12 I avoided horror movies because I hated being scared, then I found myself disappointed by supposed scary movies. Children's movies scared me more as a kid than horror movies scare me nowadays.
Movies like Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Willy Wonka, and even Ernest Scared Stupid all scared me more than the Exorcist.
I thought The Others was great. Want to see The Woman in Black. Any good?
Repo Man
Night of the Living Dead b/w
This is why we can't have nice things.
Did you see The Woman in Black?
I read the book and liked it a lot and I wanted to take the movie, but it was a CAM version back then. I'll look for it, thanks for reminding me.
Ok Frank, calm down.
Oh yeah, I totally meant THE OTHERS.

I was really confused when I got to the Hours in your post. The Others on the other hand is a great movie. I try not to watch it often so I can thoroughly enjoy the moment of what's really happening.
Ok Frank, calm down.
Frank? Did I miss something?
I loved The Others! Saw it at the movies with my mom and sister.
What do you strange people think about Dazed and Confused?
Oooooh... yes. I haven't seen it in a few years, but... yeah... I think it might be on my list. Gonna have to watch it again.

Ernest Scared Stupid used to scare me too!
Yep. As a kid, seeing bad stuff happen to kids scared me. A monster tuning them into statues is one of those things.
It was nice though, years later watching a That Guy With The Glasses review of the movie, and realizing,
Boy, this is a silly, dumb movie. Oh look Malcolm McDowell!
It also helped me when I realized Rick Moranis and Gene Wilder were awesome.
I almost mentioned this, but decided I love it more because it is nostalgic and I used to watch it almost every weekend. Great movie, but perfect? I don't know. Also, I agree about The Others.
But I'm curious, am I the only person in this thread who didn't really like There Will Be Blood?
"I'm glad I live in the GPS era. In a different century, I would've set off to visit the other side of the village and wandered off into the mountains and been eaten by a carnivorous plant. Or discovered the Americas."

Dazed and Confused is pretty perfect filmmaking.
No one said Forrest Gump?
I think Natural Born Killers is a visually horrendous film. I'll second Psycho, The Shining, and Gangs of New York, though.
I'd also like to nominate The Prestige, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Exorcist, and Rear Window.
Young Frankenstein.
Frankenstein, for that matter.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Oh yeah, I totally meant THE OTHERS.

Makes much more sense. And I have to agree. That movie is great.
Ok Frank, calm down.

Brad Pitt is Frank's boyfriend.
Ohh, so he's probably married to Angelina to cover up his relationship with Frank! Very clever, Brad.
Frankenstein, for that matter.
Yes!!
Yes!
Ok Frank, calm down.
Frank? Did I miss something?
Frank was a mod. You are now a mod.
Riiiight.. So Jaz is Frank as well?

Yes, The Prestige. That might be my favorite Nolan movie.
Yes.
As is Pete.

Don't forget 12 Monkeys. That movie convinced me he actually was a good actor.
Of course, my taste in movies doesn't seem to be jiving much with the rest of everyone's, so, don't take what I say about that too seriously I suppose.
Night of the Living Dead b/w

Yes.
As is Pete.
This must be why I'm obsessed with burritos? I CAN'T STOP EATING THEM!
Frankenstein, for that matter.
The Kenneth Branagh one?
You, sir, get a cockpunch.
This is why we can't have nice things.
and why am i getting le stink eye?
This is why we can't have nice things.
Too much to explain. If you must know, refer to that superstitions and fears topic I made whenever time ago that was

Definitely. I wouldn't say it was exactly perfect, though. Hugh Jackman's acting during his death scene was a bit... I don't know, I just didn't like it. But the rest of the movie was amazing.

Can a movie with major plot holes still be perfect?
Citizen Kane proves that it can.
I mean no one is in the room when he whispers his final word, but that doesn't mean the journey that the reporter goes through to find out what it means isn't awesome.
It's implied that the nurse was within hearing distance. Watch it again.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Yes.
As is Pete.
This must be why I'm obsessed with burritos? I CAN'T STOP EATING THEM!
And why I can't get enough gyros
I seriously don't know why, but I first read this as, "Can a pizza with major holes..."
How do you guys feel about Groundhog Day? I haven't seen it in awhile but a caught a few minutes the other day and it seemed pretty perfect.

It's pretty perfect.
This is why we can't have nice things.
It's pretty wonderful.

I know people might not agree, but I thought it was perfect.

“if you want to be a bird,” you said once, “with colorful plumage and buoyant trills, you must also be ready for hollow bones."
Oh shit! Mulholland Drive is one of my favorite movies!
Black Swan was great too.
ah, i forgot about black swan. it WAS perfect
Man is the cruelest animal.
yay!
I'm glad you guys like my movies. I was really tempted to put inglorious basterds on here because it's probably pretty much tied with pulp fiction as my favorite tarantino but I realize it's not a 'perfect' movie. TRYING TO BE FAIR.
“if you want to be a bird,” you said once, “with colorful plumage and buoyant trills, you must also be ready for hollow bones."
Here's my list
L.A Confidential (Definitely the best of all of these)
Zodiac
Heat
American History X
Philadelphia
American Gangster
Human Traffic
The Prestige
Moneyball
No one will agree with me on this last one but I have to say The Social Network, brillaint scripting, good casting, amazing music that was perfectly tuned to the feeling of each scene, I love this movie so much.
Self improvement comes from trimming away the shit, not building up on top of it.
Wow, it's Grae.
Hi, dude.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Hey, dude.
also, Dark City.
Self improvement comes from trimming away the shit, not building up on top of it.
I like your list, Grae.
Graet list.
The Social Network was nearly perfect. One small flaw, which Eisenberg himself pointed out when discussing his character, is that zipline scene. The character doesn't seem at all like the type to be participating in something like that.
