Peaceful/Mellow Music Appreciation
k peoples
everyone name some of their favourite mellow/peaceful songs or bands:
Ben Harper - Burn One Down
Jack Johnson - The Horizon is Defeated
Nico - These Days
Emmitt Rhodes - Lullabye (this would work great in Lullabye during a death scene or an emotional one)
Elliot Smith - Needle In the Hay, 2:45 AM, Between the Bars, Angeles
Phish - Farmhouse
coldplay; parachutes
beck; sea change
jack johnson as above-ly stated
the sleepless in seattle soundtrack
sam cooke's slower stuff
sinatra's slower stuff
moby; mobysongs
general classical music [chopin is nicely mellow, phillip glass has some great stuff.. though my favorite is a piano version of radiohead's paranoid android... its amazing.]
erm..thats all i can think of while i'm here at work.
with a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he'll never know.

Native American Flutist R. Carlos Nakai. He's amazing.

Radiohead(they're fairly peaceful)

bjork is not stupid, and a good deal of her stuff could pass as mellow.

Bah.
Wilco, Beck's Mutations
I mentioned Portishead...
Oi. No pointing out my stupidity.
Bah.
Celtic New Age i.e. Enya
i'll mention portisehead now. also, kitaro. great for napping.
*gasp* knoxville, did you just say "stupid bjork????"
and i can't believe disx listens to cat stevens...that blows my mind.
finally, i would like to admit i have been so anti-coldplay in the past that i was almost violent about it. until i became obsessed with "clocks." and by obsessed, i mean i actually went and bought "a rush of blood to the head."
i am reformed, saved, and 100% converted. you heard it here first.
oh, and since nobody's mentioned portishead, i'd like to go ahead and do so right now
bjork is hot. miss the sugarcubes. i really do.

Mirah - Cold, Cold Water

I second this. As well as anything by Mirah. Funny side note, driving around a seaside resort on the Jersey shore some night during the off season, I was listening to Mirah's "You think its like that, but its really like this" album and something very strange started happening, the lyrics to the songs started matching up with all the things I was seeing out the car window.
And oh yeah, Slayer is pretty good.
Yeah, I heard Mirah on Rice Radio (university station) one day and had to get that song... Only song I've heard, though, but it's great.
And yeah, I really like Cat Stevens, except I haven't heard much of that, either. Saw Harold & Maude (GREAT movie) and the friend of mine who got me to see that movie, told me I just had to listen to some Cat Stevens, so I did... And it was good. So hoo ray and such.
PS: Bjork is nice.
PPS: Bjork is married to Space Ghost.
PPPS: Did anyone mention Portishead?

Bjork has a child with Matthew Barney, director of the Cremaster films (which I have yet to find a way to see, but really want to), is he Space Ghost or is that just a joke from the show?
Also, Disx, I am real torn about something. I always see people harrasssing youy about your avatar and I'm like, "leave the guy alone", but I find myself wanting to ask you where todays comes from. Hhmmm, what to do?
Oh, it's no big deal, I don't mind.
This one is from Manson's new video for Mobscene... Kinda default Manson song. (Hard song, not one of his 'depressing' songs, if you could call them that.) But the video, is fuckin way cool. All mobster and such... I love.

Yeah, I guess it's a constant reminder that you are the Avatar King.
Haha, I suppose. Just remember, Robb taught me how.
Yes, I will remember Robb, he had cool, moving avatars before anybody, and also, I must not turn my back on twosmokingbarre, since he made my avatar for me.
And, oh, just so I am not responsible for turning this thread in a new direction, I will put us back on topic.
What's the topic, again?
Okay, peaceful/mellow bands...hmm...uh...how about Portishead? There, back on topic.
Hm, nobody's said Portishead yet, and they're definitely part of my list. I haven't seen Massive Attack. Very hip. Just about anything Trip-Hop is ok by me. Air. Zero 7. I'm down with anything Ben Harper acoustic, Sublime acoustic, Incubus acoustic. The latest Beck Album, Sea Change, is very chill. Coldplay is good. Uuuuuuuuh, Groove Armada. Uuuuuuuuuuuuuh, there are others too, but I can't think of 'em right now.

Brant Bjork "Jalamanta" and "& the Operators"
