Yes, you all know this was a long time coming. I even had a small section dedicated to this goofy bastard back on one of the older versions of our site. (it was actually a sub-sub-section of a movie review section I ran).

So I'll start things off.

This is my first "actor appreciation" thread so it might be a little rough. However, when your dealing with an actor like Patrick Swayze, you sort of let his essence take over your fingers at the keyboard. Patrick is one of those common cinematic gifts in that he was once on top of the world and no longer is. However, with Patrick, the story goes a little different. You see, people can't scoff at him since deep down, we all love his films. I mean, we're talking about the guy who gave us greats like "Point Break", "Roadhouse", and of course, "Dirty Dancing." Once you've made films like that, you can take an early retirement because life doesn't get any better, baby!

[img]http://patrickswayze.wisdomdigital.com/Movies/point3.jpg[/img]

Now mind you, this is not a sarcastic thread. I am not poking fun at the man. I hope people don't read into this and really think that this whole thing is a spoof because it's not. Hopefully Patrick will one day browse into this sick incarnation of a forum and be mildly flattered. Who knows. The point is, I hope to convey to my audience in front of their PCs just how good the man really is. Not as a sex symbol or any type of romantic figure-head. Hell, Patrick isn't if that great of a role-model. But I do know that the man puts out great films and most of all...he knows exactly what the audience wants from him. So with out further delay, dive into the festivities below.

[img]http://patrickswayze.wisdomdigital.com/Movies/out5.jpg[/img]

[b]Top Ten Greatest Swayze Moments[/b]

10) "Young Blood" - In a rare stroke of genius, Swayze and Reeves were together on screen. Young, dumb and both with a great future ahead of them. Truly a beautiful moment since you know that "Point Break" was in their futures.

9) "Red Dawn" - In the heat of Communist invasion on a once quiet school yard, panic over- takes our young heroines. All seems lost....that is until a blazing pick-up truck from Hell comes zooming into the parking lot with Jed (Swayze, of course) behind the wheel coming to the rescue.

8) "Dirty Dancing" - During the climactic dance frenzy, Swayze is over-taken by a sudden jolt of passion upon seeing Jennifer Grey at the other end of the auditorium. His reaction is a beautiful thing: Swayze leaps off the stage, hands held high and legs kicking back behind him. He vanishes but then POPS back up into the frame and begins doing his "tantalizing Thriller dance" towards the camera. The other dancers follow his lead in perfect formation.

7) "The Outsiders" - Moments before the infamous rumble in the park, the camera does one long pan across all of the greasers' faces. They are all an even distance from the camera, so as not to discriminate. But when Swayze's involved, one must discriminate. Therefore, when the camera reaches him, he is only inches from its lens. He shows not an ounce of fear or hesitation (you'll notice that Tom Cruise does) and to heighten the badass look on his jutting face, thunder roars just when he appears. Talk about nature's timing....

[img]http://patrickswayze.wisdomdigital.com/Movies/city9.jpg[/img]

6) "City of Joy" - Not being able to control his love for Swayze, a young Indian boy dubs him with the mysterious yet respectful title, "Max-da da."

5) "Next of Kin" - Swayze displays more of his artistic talent with a violin rendition of some song he learned as a kid growing up on the farm. The ease and fluid motion in which Swayze strums the instrument is quite breath-taking.

4) "Steal Dawn" - Swayze gets his stab at being Mad Max for the day. Hey, can you blame him. (God, this film sucks)

3) "Ghost" - Having finally been able to master his "purgatory abilities", Swayze decides to get revenge on Carl for destroying his life and mistreating Molly. Therefore, he FUCKS with Carl's head big time!!! There isn't one moment of this chain of scenes to pin-point, but to see how effective Swayze really is at being coy and cute, just look at Carl's face when he's strangling Whoopie Goldberg,

2) "Point Break" - As Swayze is chased by Keanu in what could be the greatest on-foot chase sequence ever, things start to look dismal. Swayze makes a wrong, split-minute decision to cut through a women's house (while she's home vacuuming!!!) and finds that he may of run himself into a corner. And with Johnny Utah on your trail, there's only one thing to do...and Swayze knows what it is. And so he hurls a barking Bulldog at Utah's face!!!

1) "Roadhouse" - The entire film...

[img]http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/about/dennis/pics/roadhouse.jpg[/img]

[i]"Bustin' Heads and Breakin' Hearts."[/i]

[b]Patrick Swayze Quotes[/b]

[i]"You lose..." (Red Dawn)

"Hold on little brother" (Red Dawn)

"Nobody puts baby in the corner" (Dirty Dancing)

"Ditto" (Ghost)

"100% pure adrenaline" (Point Break)

(Road House):

- Bad Guy: Prepare to die!!!
- Swayze: You are such an asshole.[/i]

I await your replies...

I'm sorry, Dennis, but I can't say I'm a big fan. The one thing that's dragging him down for me is his role in Dirty Dancing. I just can't forgive anybody for having a part in the making of that movie.

damn dennis...
you make me very very ashamed at my self
i cant believe i have the nerve to call myself a "film freak" when i havent even seen most of patrick swayze's greatest moments in cinematic history..tsk tsk..i shake my fist at myself
*puts fist in mouth

dirty dancing is great..it's one of those guilty pleasures..too bad TBS always dub over the good parts and cut out the even better parts...did you know that patrick swayzes sings as well? i think the song was "hungry eyes"...it played when he told "baby" off and he drives off onto the dusty road, leaving baby (jennifer gray sans nose job) all sad and tearily (more confused i think)

patrick is also a great dancer too..as most of you are familiar with his SNL dancing sequence during his monologue with his beautiful beautiful wife

oh..waht about that horrible horrible movie--3 wishes..i think that's what it's called..

oh patrick..come back...
OMG>>you forgot him as jim cunnigham in donnie darko..tsk tsk how can you forget the se;f help mogule by day and kiddieporn promoter by night. tsk tsk

I don't "do" Donnie Darko, babe.

As for that SNL skit:

muahhahaha...oh patrick...oh farley...
that was hilarious

why NOT...? donnie darko wasnt that bad...i love jake gyllenhaal...it was enjoyable and yes it was overhyped..but really..to see patrcik swayze on the big screen again as a pedophille..that's "doable" right? i mean do-able-worthy right?
*taps feet..waits for the nods

Hmmm, weird. Sometimes those two broken links show up for me, then I refresh my page and they suddenly vanish again. Anyone know why that is?

In the meantime, I attached the "Roadhouse" pic, small_fire. Check it out.

I figured out why pics don't sometimes post using [img] tags. I ran a little test, and every picture URL that had an underscore in it... for example:

[url]http://www.geocities.com/crazy_over_swayze/ddnew.JPG[/url]

that won't link correctly. See the underscores in "crazy_over_swayze."

Well, I uploaded that pic to our site, and I renamed it. It's new address is:

[url]http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/about/dennis/pics/dirtydancing.jpg[/url]

No underscores in that one. And so I revised my opening post up top with the new URL and now I think it works fine.

See, ya learn something new everyday.

dnnie darko was both good and hard to figure out. if u watch the special features, check out theself help viedos, and you'll see Swayze touch the bottom of the boy he hugs. Also, listen to the "director's" commentary. Hilarious. Watch out for the chocolate sprinkles

We can't discuss Point Break without giving props to the immortal Gary Busey. Once the poor man's Nick Nolte... the man has risen to usurp the gruff one.

The irony? Nick Nolte has been rendered the poor man's Nick Nolte.

And Busey grins on...

Roadhose was one of the inspirationals behind Reservoir Dogs! The scene were Patrick is telling everyone how he was going to start running the place and how if they didn't like it, it was his way or the highway.
Tarrintino ripped that fucking scene right out of Roadhouse and used it in the 'Let's go to work' scene.

Classic movie for two reasons: The fights, and the fact it got me into listening to Otis Redding...This arms of mine...Love that tune!!!

i agree with most of this, but i think you can really see the fine, method-acting skills mr. swayze employs in the scene directly following the "tantalizing thriller dance." when johnny and baby finally come together, and "i had the time of my life" is playing in the background, not only does the audience feel johnny's passion for baby, but also understands that he really, really means it when he emphatically lip-syncs "and i owe it all to you!"

Roadhouse may be easy to knock, but as far as guilty pleasures go... it tops the list. This is probaby why TBS Superstation shows it almost every other day like clockwork.

But I can talk about the performances all day, yet let us not forget the sheer amount of great quotes from the movie.
First, we got Sam Elliot, the greasiest most badass, grizzled brawler ever.

[b]And upon being asked if he ever gets tired, his response is:[/b]

[i]Honey, I'll get all the sleep I need when I'm dead.[/i]

[b]Next up, you got the evil, ambiguously gay villain, who is basically a carbon copy of Swayze, but with evil black hair. (not Brad Wesley, but his quiet underling). Well, in their final confrontation, the bad guy utters the shocking and memorable line,[/b]

[i]I used to fuck guys like you in prison![/i]

[b]And let us not forget the immortal scene where Swayze lays down the new law for the Double Deuce:[/b]

[i]Swayze: And the third rule, be nice. (laughter all around)

Fat Bouncer: (skeptical) C'mon....

Swayze: If somebody gets in your face and calls you a cocksucker, I want you to be nice.

Fat Bouncer: (non convinced) Oooookay.

Swayze: Ask him to walk. Be nice. If he won't walk, walk him. But be nice. If you can't walk him, one of the others will help you and you'll both be nice. (pauses) I want you to remember that it's never personal. It's just a job.

Italian Bouncer: (grinning) Really? Being called a cocksucker ain't personal?

Swayze: No, it's two nouns put together to elicit a prescribed response.

Italian Bouncer: Yeah, and what if somebody calls my momma a whore?

Swayze: Is she?[/i]

[b]That's called gold, ladies and gents. Gold...[/b]

firstly there is an inherent flaw to your response
moe-ron was referring to a scene from DIRTY DANCING... not roadhouse. a great movie and a great scene that always get me giddy like a school girl.

"Honey, I'll get all the sleep I need when I'm dead."
badass..just badass...it's exactly something that i would say.

"Swayze: No, it's two nouns put together to elicit a prescribed response."
hmm..he actually has a brains...even with all that lean muscles..wow...an amazing specimen of human marvel
