Outkast
Now, I usually don't really like rap, but these guys are damn good.
Andre 3000 and Big Boi's new album is going to be awesome, its basically two seperate solo CDs being released as one album (save some money, too).
I listened to the sampler of the new album, and this one song called "Hey Ya!" is awesome. Amazing music, an acoustic guitar playing along with a keyboard and drums on repetition throughout the song.
Any of you like Outkast, or any other "hip-hip" groups?
Oh yeah, and J5 is pretty good, too, considering NuMark and Cut Chemist are their DJs.
I'm all about the Beastie Boys....
i saw dialated peoples in concert, baboo was sick
oh and i am not at all into rap
I give props where they be deserved

Hmmm. I got my fingers in the pie of most music. I seem to like two different and conflicting schools of rap/hip hop. I like the really "meaningful" more underground and more thought-out stuff, and then I like the really mindless gangster rap. Because when you're caught in traffic after a 9 hour work day, there's nothing like yelling hate-filled, spirit crushing and violent lyrics.
And yes, Outkast rocks the heez.
If you're lukewarm on rap/hip hop, I suggest something like The Streets' "Original Pirate Material," or Jurassic 5's "EP"
If you like faceless gangster rap, or would like to dabble in it, try Xzibit's "Man vs. Machine" or the DOC's "Deuce".
Quick interesting history on the DOC:
Interestingly enough, the DOC doesn't rap that much on his own album. He used to write alot of NWA's stuff, then consequently, most of Dr. Dre's "Chronic" album in the mid-90s. He was going to be THE storyteller in rap, and the industry was basically ready to have the DOC become what Dre has become (but with more storytelling aspects). He released a flagship album and promised to take over with his next. Then, the DOC was in a car accident and his larynx was crushed, so he wasn't able to talk anymore. Eventually, he regained some of his now gravelly voice, and surprisingly, continued releasing albums.

Baboo is sick. He DJ'd between sets at a Jurassic 5 show I went to.
Cut Chemist totally stole the show though with his portable turntable tricks.

The Street's are awesome, I love Original Pirate Material, British Hip-Hop, fo sho.
Kidney - hell yeah. I remember when I first heard one of the songs, I HAD to have the album. And it's great - when you listen to it, it's english but like listening to another language.
I guess...kind of like listening to Snoog Dogg sometimes.

I think the song that sold me was "The Irony of It All" that song is just so fucking funny, yet it has a good beat. I also really enjoy "Don't Mug Yourself". But the whole album in general is pretty good. Not a fan of Snoop Dogg really...

Mike Skinner does some good production...and although there's aligations of him "nicking" some of the beats from his friends, I think his production values are something not seen in alot of American rap and hip hop.
The closest I could equate would be the RZA's finer moments, as seen on the GZA's "Liquid Swords" album. Which is odd because RZA tends to produce in different ways on each album, but has a nice threaded style that makes him distinct.
If you're interested in the Wu Tang Clan at all (and I know like...no one is haha) check out "Pinky Ring" - it's got some nice horn action.

The Streets is alright. RZA is an amazing musical hip-hop artist. The score to Ghost Dog was damn good.
Jurassic 5 are alright, and when I saw them in concert, the portable turntable thing with Nu Mark and Cut Chemist was ill. Fucking awesome. Highlight of their set by far.
DJ Shadow's hip-hop music is awesome, too, but it's really too bad that instead of focusing on his talents he's producing for bands like Blink 182. What the fuck, man.
And I really don't like rap. It's just the select few that stand out and that I can actually listen to and enjoy musically, it's them I give props to, whatever props may be.

Yes. You got it. Where'd you see J5? I caught them in a little club in Santa Cruz during college...about 3 years ago.

I saw them at Lollapalooza.
And I'm at school right now. This rules.
invisible scratch pickles are the best djs eva. dj qbert alone is fucking amazing, and babu from dp is the shit. yoga frog with q bert is sick and peanut butter wolf is a funky mother fucker. as for wu tang check out gravel pit, has a chick singing chorus with method man, that songs catchy. and how could i forget mix master mike hes a pioneer. anybody seen the movie scratch that shits pretty good for the history of it all. then the invisible scratch piklz put out this bi annual tape out, the best scratching ive ever seen
Just downloaded the new CD (took about 20 minutes), and listening to, of course, Andre's CD first. I'm into track three (with Dre talking to god, who he discovers is a woman, about getting him a new girl), and so far, no rap has surfaced yet, all singing, with piano and orchestra and acoustic guitar, so far (only three songs).
Off to go listen to the entire thing.
Anyone ever seen Aphex Twin in concert? He used to do crazy shit like use beltsanders on records as they were on the turntable. Siiiiiiiiiiiiiick.

Wu Tang is probably the best rap ensemble of all time, although I like Bone Thugs a lot too. RZA is undoubtedly the best rap producer of all time.
Then again, I might be wrong.
Plastic, you have a nice taste in music.
only early Geto Boyz work is worth listening to.
life's pretty straight without vidalia :You_Rock_
I've gotta look em up Gooch. I will soon enough.
You know, I still have a special place in my heart for Warren G. Sure, it's just faceless gangster rap, but it's G-funk. Hoo-wee.

I would love to see Aphex Twin in concert. That guy is a genius, and I don't like trance/hip-hop. I especially don't like rap (if given the chance, I would kill Jay-Z with no remorse and I would pay money to get rid of 50-cent). But I like Snoop and Dre. Gangsta rap is cool. I also like the Fugees, so maybe I like some hip-hop as well..I dunno. Any suggestions to get me back into rap/hip-hop? (aside from the above)
Get a Beat Junkies CD....they release compilations from time to time with some good songs and collabs on it.

gangsta rap LISTEN to some old scarface that guy will fuck you up. as for dj's i just downloaded a dj shadow and dj qbert collaboration on soulseek thats thirty minutes long, it is bad ass. i also downloaded some peanut butter wolf, he is funky, and a set with dj shadow and cut chemist which is about thirty minutes long to, the two sets with dj shadow are great.
as for hip hop listen to diolated peoples, their dj is amazing.
mos def talib kweli and pharoahe are pretty good. that one hip hop group on matador, i forget the name if i find it ill throw it on here unless somebody knows it, they're good
DANGER MOUSE!
outkast sucks.
robot puking what are u saying. and danger mouse what the hell is hat. i know this reggae dude my friend had some vinyl from called eek-a-mouse
I like the new(er) GZA album - Legend of the Liquid Swords...it's got some good bass on it and oddly enough, doesn't sound as Staton Island as the rest of his stuff (don't get me wrong, I LOVE the original Liquid Swords album)
If you know Swedish, you may dig Petter. I don't know Swedish but dig it all the same because....well...just imagine pulling up next to someone on the street and having Swedish hip hop bumping out your window. It's most excellent.
Canibus' new album "Rip the Jacker" is pretty cool....kind of sounds like something the Beatnuts would have done (maybe that's the producer's work, I'm not sure).

danger mouse and jemini. ghetto pop life. it's music. it was also a cartoon.

If you like Aphex Twin, give Bogdan Raczynski a listen (though stray away from the My Love I Love album)

Never heard any Ulrich Schnauss, but I'll check him out.
Raczynski is just a crazy kid who makes weird jittery, screaming stuff. He was on the same label as Aphex at one time...
I heard Mu-ziq's new album is good...I need to check that out.

I got an advance copy of the new Outkast album - "Speakerboxxx & the Love Below"...
I like it. It's a pleasant mix of conventional and unconventional. I love the remix of "These are a Few of my Favorite Things". As usual, Big Boi and Andre go OFF on their beats - and the mixing in of more classic guitar elements is excellent.

My favorite rap group is Clouddead.
i like pole. matador has some good electronic music on their comp. like red snapper and pole is good.
has anybody heard apparat organ quartet. they are fucking awesome. if not go on to soulseek and download that is fucking good shit

yeah, ive got MuZiqs Lunatic Harness and one of his alter ego-s Kid Spatula's Full Sunken Breaks.
if you like wacky noise, check out Matmos, Soft Pink Truth and Matthew Herbert.
life's pretty straight without vidalia :You_Rock_
Matador also has Interpol and Mogwai, who are awesome.
And patioman, you hit the nail on the head. The classic guitar elements are great.
Too bad the rapping is kind of repetetive (depending on the song, and of course, if it's Dre it's usually good).
very true leonard
