Wow. This little thread got CRAZY. People telling me to abuse my girlfriend, people showing an alarming lack of respect for women as a whole, people questioning my masculinity in some kind of bizarre machoistic pissing-contest. Hell, I even got called stuffy.
NO NO NO NO!!!
his lyrics are fantastic. in my opinion i think they are some of the best to be writen. much better then manynards, did you listen to the new perfect circle album. that was the most disappointing part of it, the lyrics were no where near as good as the first albums.
finally! somebody agrees with me. jesus, those lyrics were so completely different, nothing so eloquent and flowing as any APC or Tool stuff. wtf? i asked myself the first time i heard the latest album.
"someone feed the monkey while I dig in search of China, white as Dracula as I approach the bottom..."
Seriously wtf is that. I was so dissapointed with that album. I waited 3 years for that ^... A lot of the music is good though, but most of the lyrics are pure shit. When will I learn, I put faith in something and it failed me just like all those other times...

"Weak and Powerless" is the *worst* song on the album, but yes, there are plenty of other weak spots too. The best lyrics on there are "The Nurse Who Loved Me" and that's a cover of a Failure song - definitely not written by Maynard.
BUT, when downwardspiral_nin says that Trent's lyrics are "much better than Maynard's" simply because of the latest APC album, I cannot agree. Maynard has an entire back catalogue of stuff that I like...tons of stuff.
I DO like some of Trent's lyrics too, but out of all the NIN albums I can probably only come up with maybe 5 or 6 songs that I can point to and say "I wish I had written those lyrics."
It is, of course, a personal preference. I like what I like. With NIN though, I can single out the specifics of what I *don't* like:
- I hate it when the chorus is simply the title of the song repeated over and over. T. Rez does this a lot, and that was the point I was trying to get at earlier.
- I don't like songs where every line has to rhyme, especially if it seems forced. NIN: guilty, more often than not.
- The subject matter: Angsty whining about failed relationships. This is one area where I think The Fragile made a big improvement though, and I'm definitely curious about the new ablum's lyrics.
Um...what's everyone's favorite song?
If you can name one.
(do favorite per album if you have to)
"Do you have 846 pounds of zinc? I don't!" -- The Laz.
"I was almost Six On Tha Dot. What a mistake that would have been." -- Six On The Dot
evolver, all i want to say is that trent never really wrote lyrics that were whiny or about failed relationships(except for maybe a few, mostly on the pretty hate machine album) but even if he did atleast be never made it as blunt as band such as linkin park, papa roach, ect... all that music is false angst but with NIN you really feel for the person writing these, never has anyones lyrics moved me as much as trents have. but yes, it is all personal preferece but it does get to me when people talk really bad about this band.

you are the reason
i stay alive
Hey, don't get me wrong - I love NIN. I can be critical of his songs BECAUSE I like them. I wouldn't waste the time and effort if Linkin Park or Papa Roach was under discussion.
aheffel - hard for me to even pick one per album, especially off of TDS or The Fragile since it's all good. I do remember that when Broken first came out, "Last" was my favorite on that album for a long time, but still...hard to choose.
i wouldn't be too proud of being one of the first on the nin d-boards, that place makes my soul want to vomit.
the becoming and reptile have to be my 2 favorite nin songs.
All i have are these Action Bills.
my favorite song is a 3-way tie between Closer(the first NIN song I ever heard) La Mer, and Sin

Hmm....intresting
...94.5 FM that I get here in Hermiston, Oregon. The two DJ's played a double shot of Nine Inch Nails and afterwards said that "Bleedthrough" will come out in February. (Thanks Sam)
And
a friend of mine works at F.Y.E. and he says the new NIN album is showing up in their computer w/ a release date of march... (Thanks Calx)
As far as anyone knows right now, these could both be bullshit, but it does keep in line with the information out of the AP article. Don't take this news too seriously Apparently, a radio station and a nationwide record store both believe that Bleedthrough is going to come out sometime this spring. Here are two emails we got from unconfirmed sources.
