New music?
2010 (especially the latter half) seems like a pretty dull year for new music so far. The new Weezer album is absolutely awful, the new Interpol is duller than watching paint dry, and the new Walkmen album is subpar compared to their other albums.
Are any 2010 albums really blowing your mind?
You are quite obsessed with the Gorillaz, Stephen.
It has not been a super year, no. Can't even think of any 2010 albums right now.
I wasn't too jazzed about Plastic Beach - definitely a few good songs on there, but it was all a little same-y
I'll check out the Sleigh Bells, thanks
Stuff I do like from this year:
Zola Jesus - Stridulum EP
Daughters - S/T
Jonas Reinhardt - Powers of Audition
The Black Keys album is pretty good. Can't think of anything else.

The National - 'High Violet'
65daysofstatic - 'We Were Exploding Anyway'
I'd also chuck AFI's 'Crash Love' up there, seeing how it came out so late last year.
#I have given you the fire of my youth/And the triumph o're my enemies#
Honestly, I can't think of anything that came out this year that gave me wood.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I really like it a lot. I'm also this year fond of Band of Horses "Infinite Arms" and Josh Ritter's "So Runs the World Away."
There is hope, but not for us.
This is about the only thing i've been listening to this year, and a bunch of those paris and the hiltons songs, but mostly just faggot bruce.
Oh man, you guys are hurting my feelings. It's a great year for music.
The National had a great release this year, can't remember the name of it off the top of my head but check out the single "Blood Buzz Ohio"
*EDIT* High Violet is the name
Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record is (for me) one of the best albums of the last ten years.
Sleigh Bells - Treats is a nice surprise too.
Of Montreal is releasing a new album in a few weeks that's on NPR's First Listen right now that's great.
Arcade Fire just released The Suburbs, which isn't fantastic but a whole hell of a lot better than their last.
Broken Bells is a side project band of DJ Dangermouse and James Mercer. The first few songs on the album blew me the hell away.
I think it's been a great year for music.
You know in all the years I've been here I've never been sigged?
I dig the new Black Crowes double album. It's just them doing acoustic versions of a bunch of their songs, but it's still damn good. horrible name though: Croweology. yuck!
We're Here Because We're Here by Anathema has some good songs, but I didn't listen to the album for that long. I really need to see them live again, that would relaunch my excitement about them.
I know, right? In 2010, the first Paris and the Hiltons album came out!
I liked some of the new Goo Goo Dolls album. They've gone in a direction I'm not particularly fond of — the lyrics have been lazy for the most part, and they lost the playfulness they used to have — but their cover of Flesh for Lulu's "Postcards from Paradise" is pretty good, if a little too close to the original to be anything special. It's weird that the best track on the new album, to me, is a Robby Takac song ("Now I Hear"), which is without a doubt one of his best songs.
I LOVE Sage Francis's 2010 album, "LI(F)E". It's probably a masterpiece, but I'm avoiding saying stuff like that nowadays. I love it.

They won't change your life but these guys are quite pleasant. Rough Trade's been wanking over them for ages.
I've been listening to Sage Francis too, didn't realize it was a 2010 one. And the Arcade Fire's new one is pretty great. Otherwise i'm listening to older stuff or stuff from last year. 2010 did kind of suck.
Robyn - Body Talk pt.1 and Body Talk pt.2

Heh, the Arcade Fire and the National albums were so bad I forgot about them. Sorry to all the people who like it, but I thought those records are god-awful. Especially The National.
I thought the Band of Horses album was ok, I should probably give that another listen.
The latest Besnard Lakes album was ok.. I've heard a bit from the Of Montreal album, it's not doing it for me. I don't really get the hype about this Janelle Monae stuff either. Zzzzz.
The new Iron Maiden album has some ok tracks on it, the first half of the album is good, but the second half drags a lot and the album is sooo looonnnng. Also that Surfer Blood album was good, I think that was this year?
I will check out the Broken Bells, that sounds interesting. I think I downloaded that Best Coast album but I never actually listened to it..
Well in the words of Arcade Fire, "I'd rather be wrong than live in the shadows of your song."
I don't even have a song!
I thought the Band of Horses album was ok, I should probably give that another listen.
It took me a while too, probably because I was really enamored of "Cease to Begin" and sometimes it's hard to want to hear anything different. Also I bought the new Black Keys the same day and that album is tight.
But yeah, give it another try. "Compliments" is my jam right now. Also, their bassist is named Ludwig Boss. That's great.
Too bad the video makes me motion sick.
There is hope, but not for us.
Also, was anyone else really underwhelmed with M. Ward's new album "Hold Time"?
There is hope, but not for us.
Ludwig Boss! that's the best. I think I've always been underwhelmed a litte by BoH since seeing them live way back when they were touring for their first album. Their live sound is so amazing and so much bigger than on record, I'm always a little disappointed. I do love the first two albums though.
I just found out today that they're coming to Omaha on the first of October. There are no words, etc.
There is hope, but not for us.

I'm beginning to see a correlation between me not being able to get into music for about a year to withering up mentally, physically and artistically. I haven't even stolen an album all year! The only thing keeping my soul on life-support has been all those PATH songs. Well, them and faggot bruce I suppose.
Update: They're actually coming to Des Moines. Ew, Iowa.
There is hope, but not for us.

Which PATH songs in particular?

pretty much the golden oldies, scissors, cold baby, the war one ron silver, the ones up on that myspace. all together is about a full album. I've not listened to a full album of anyone else this past year by a longshot!
Are any 2010 albums really blowing your mind?
Well if you like Rock the new Filter Cd is pretty damn good. Also the new Dax Riggs Album is great. He does a really heartbreaking insane cover of Heartbreak Hotel. He is great if you like a blues infused rock type style. Its really hard to explain him actually. Its just good stuff.
Filter - The Trouble With Angels
Dax Riggs - Say Goodnight to the World

I am into rock but I'm not really a Filter fan but I will check out the other, thanks Zack!
Also the new Black Label Society album is pretty decent. CRAAAAZY HORSE I AAAMM

I will listen, I promise! Have you heard the new Royksopp? It's quite lovely

Not the new, no. I'll give it a listen. It's on spotify =D

Hey Kit let me know what you think of Dax. He's one of my favorite artists right now. I could probably send you a few songs if needed.

Well I downloaded his latest album, and it seems pretty cool.. kind of like a goth-y, more 60s influenced Queens of the Stone Age. Plus I checked out his myspace and he has Scott Walker as his number one friend, which is awesome.
Yeah he's a cool guy. He used to be in a band called Acid Bath that were more Goth like a long time ago. I have been following him since the 90's. He lives here so he plays here a lot. I like how hes got a real dark but southern retro style.

I like the Heartbreak Hotel cover a lot. The vocal there reminds me a little of Rufus Wainwright, but more manly. If that makes any sense?
Yeah he blew me away with that cover. I mean he makes it sound so damn heartbroken, like a man so heartbroken he's been driven to the brink of insanity. Elvis would cry.

These are the albums I've been enjoying this year- Bright Eyes-"One jug of wine, two vessels reissue", Gorillaz-"Plastic Beach," The Black Keys-"Brothers," and DJ Danger Mouse/Sparklehorse/David Lynch's-"Dark night of the soul."
"For most of this century, scientists have worshiped the hardware of the brain and the software of the mind; the messy powers of the heart were left to the poets."
The Dillinger Escape Plan put out a little something called Option Paralysis back in March which is an excellent album if you're into that math metal/people screaming in your ears kind of thing. Although Mike Garson (former Bowie pianist) shows up on a few tracks which gives it more of an avant garde touch than one is used to.
Massive Attack's latest Heligoland is good, too. It's a grower, mind you. Took me a while to get into it.
Also; go and buy/download the soundtrack for Shutter Island. I like to put this on at full volume and walk around my place pretending I'm in a horror movie.
I enjoyed Sea of Cowards by The Dead Weather, that had a great sound. For any other Kiwis there's albums out by Street Chant, The Naked and Famous and The Phoenix Foundation. What i've heard off those is alright. I don't really listen to new music though so i haven't been paying too much attention.
This new Twin Shadow album is pretty damn nice, also the new Women album seems interesting, I've only listened to it once so far though
These are good, not sure if the album's from this year or late last year but fuck it, it's relatively new...
The High Confessions is fucking awesome. Features Chris Connelly(Ministry and many more), Sanford Parker(Minsk, Nachtmystium), and Steve Shelley(Sonic Youth). When they first released "Chlorine And Crystal" online, I immediately ordered the debut album, Turning Lead Into Gold With The High Confessions:
Howl released one of the most metal albums earlier this year in addition to having one of the most metal album covers, Full Of Hell. Fuck this shit is heavy! And how fucking cool is that album art?
I was very heartbroken when Celtic Frost split up once again after putting out one of the truly great metal albums Monotheist back in '06. I at least got to see them live before they called it quits.
Anyways, Lead guitarist/vocalist, Tom G. Warrior formed Triptykon and put out Eparistera Daimones, which pretty much captures the sound of Monotheist era Celtic Frost. It kicks so much ass. I want to see them when they come to town the night before halloween.
And finally, one of my favorite horror electronic bands, Zombie Zombie, they released an EP called, Zombie Zombie Plays John Carpenter. If you like John Carpenter scores at all, you'd like Zombie Zombie. Check out their cover of the Halloween Theme.

Ray LaMontagne's God Willin' And The Creek Don't Rise is pretty fantastic. Like Rock And Roll And Radio is amazing. The whole album is gravy though.
Good arms vs bad arms will win hands down.
There's a band called Best Coast i like. I think their CD came out this year.
Their album technically came out late last year in the UK, but it wasn't released until February in the States so I want to nominate Mumford and Sons album, Sigh No More. I love it.

Sigh No More is such a fantastic album, and based on the new songs they have written such as Lover of the Light, Nothing is Written, and Whispers in the Dark, the new one, whenever released is going to be phenomenal.

aren't they the ones that has that video of John Carpenter's The Thing only they did it with gi joe toys?
This song is fantastic! Definitely going to keep this album on my radar.
There is hope, but not for us.
i swear one of these days I'm going to listen to all these videos on here.

I like Sleigh Bells's album, i think it's called Treats. Pretty interesting music. And my friend keeps playing the new Weezer one over and over and he thinks it's the coolest thing around but it really is awful. Didn't Plastic Beach come out this year? That's a great one.
