Movies to look foward to in 2011
I mentioned Super 8 in another thread, but I was checking this site out http://popcandyarcade.blogspot.com/2011/01/30-movies-to-look-forward-to-... and they mentioned some movies that look promising, specifically The Hangover 2, Hanna, and Source Code.
Anything else anyone is looking forward to?

Then there's this monster of a trailer that seems to promise way more than any movie can ever deliver.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
Tree of Life - Malick + ambitious concept that will lead to astounding visuals = ticket
Sucker Punch - Looks like pure, high-adrenaline fun
War Horse - looks like it will have a great story. Oh yeah, and SPIELBERG.
The Grandmasters - Another great film from Wong Kar Wai I hope
Girl With the Dragon Tatoo - FINCHER. Also I know absolutely nothing about the book or current movies. This could be one of those rare remakes that is better than the original (like cape fear).
only thing ive seen yet that i want to see is SUCKER PUNCH, but the year is young

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”
-James Baldwin
It doesn't look like a good year for movies for me. That Source Code is the only one I'm excited to see. And that's mostly because Moon was so good that I figure this will be good too.
Sucker Punch looks awful except it'll be 2 hours of Special Effects Porn so I'll probably go see it only because it'll suck just watching it on a tv screen. (Maybe that's how they'll end up getting more people back to the movies is by making films that only look good on a giant movie screen?)
Hanna and Hangover 2 look okay, but I'll just wait until I can steal em online somewhere, then maybe go see them if I really like them.
Nothing else blows my skirt up.
then again 2010 was a pretty crummy year of movies for me too, I only went to 4 all year long.
I'm looking forward to these films this year:
The Rum Diary- The film version of Hunter S. Thompson's early novel. One of my favorites by the great Doctor
On the Road- my only guff with this film is that Kristen Stewart is in it...why God why?! Regardless of her I'm def stoked to see this. One of my fav. books of all time <3
Living in the Material World: George Harrison- I adored Martin Scorsese's biography of Dylan and the Stones last concert...George wasn't my favorite Beatle but I'm really looking forward to see how Scorsese does this.
Hangover 2- Bill Clinton is making a cameo...why wouldn't you want to see Zach Galifianakis and Bill Clinton together?! Can't wait
Hope it's as good as the first.
Priest- Haven't read the graphic novel yet but I do know that Paul Bettany won me over as a creepy monk in the da vincia code (didn't care much for the movie though) But he really looks like he fits this part well.
Rango- For some reason I think this might be funny/witty...My guilty pleasure in movies this year lol
Your Highness- This looks so goddamn funny...and Natalie Portman in that one scene...damn girl @_@

Hadn't heard about this, but now I am interested to see it, thanks! George is definitely one of my favourites.
Also curious to see A Dangerous Method - Cronenburg is usually good value, and the subject matter is pretty interesting.
The other films I'm particularly interested to see - Tree Of Life, The Rum Diary, have already been mentioned. That Super 8 trailer looks like it could be promising too. Love a good creature feature.
Your welcome!
Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of George's solo stuff "All things must Pass," Traveling wilburys. I always have a toss up between Paul and John...I think John wins most. When I saw Black Swan last week I saw the trailer for "Tree of Life." What's it about? Is it from a book?

I think this year is already slightly more promising than 2010. Rum Diary. New Cronenberg. New Malick. Spielberg has a movie that isn't a remake or sequel. Wong Kar Wai. New Schnabel. New Duncan Jones. New Herzog documentary (IN THREEEEE DEEEE). New Ridley Scott Film that isn't a Russ Crowe vehicle but is a spiritual sequel to the original Alien. Biutiful.
When the most critically acclaimed movie of 2010 is one about facebook, you know it's been a slow year (not that the social network wasn't a fine film).
I haven't heard anything about the Rum Diary one. Who's doing it? Is there a trailer yet?

It looked to me like it was going to be one of those "dude looks back on his childhood and sees how awful it was and how it's caused him to be an awful person now" type of things but I guess it's supposed to be more like The Fountain with less sci-fi stuff going on, but I don't know really.
I'm looking forward to Rum Diary also. Johnny Depp is playing the lead again.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is gonna be pretty badass I'm sure.
Isn't Chris Nolan's 3rd Batman movie due in 2011 or is it 2012?
I'd guess next year, otherwise we'd be inundated with "Why So Serious" type hype by now.
Kung Fu Panda 2

I made a promise to myself not to look forward to a movie again, because I looked forward to Julie Taymor's film The Tempest for TWO YEARS and then even though I haven't seen it yet, it's getting the worst reviews ever. This is heartbreaking, but also extremely surprising, since I love all her other movies, and especially love her other Shakespeare adaptation, Titus.
That said, and breaking promise to self, I am looking forward to the Adjustment Bureau, even though the release has been pushed back a couple of times, which supposedly is a bad sign, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Amen! I refuse to see it...I've heard that it's good, but the fact that the story of facebook was made into a movie...yeah fuck that lol I heard the soundtrack is really good though.

You guys do know it's about a little bit more than just Facebook, right?
FACT: Everybody who criticizes Facebook has a profile on Facebook.

Actually I don't...

You're missing out.
You're missing out.
Yeah? Why do you say that? I know a few people who have seen it and say that it's decent. What's all the hubbub about?

Oh, then I guess it's just decent! Don't bother watching it.
I'm sure I'll see it one day. I just need to lighten up lol

You shouldn't really be surprised. Taymor's films never really get great reviews, outside of Titus, maybe. And rightly so, if you ask me, but if you're a fan you should probably just see The Tempest anyway, because you'll probably like it.

I will see the Tempest eventually, but maybe I will hold off on it till I get to see it on the stage first.
But both her other films (Frida and Across the Universe) did get many rave reviews. If you don't believe me, just look them up on Rotten Tomatoes, but if you look up The Tempest there, it's pretty ugly.
New sig, awesome!
Too big for sig.
Still hilarious.

well, Across The Universe is only at 53%, but that is a lot higher than The Tempest. That said, The Tempest only has about a third of the reviews of ATU. Looks like the highest rating any of her films gets on RT is 76% for Frida, so like I said, she's not really a film maker with universal popularity. She works in a pretty specific niche and people either appreciate it or not. A bit like Baz Lurhmann or Terry Gilliam.

So have they just abandoned all pretense of them trying to find the other unfamous dude that was supposed to be the central figure of them all even knowing each other?
I'll be the dork that says it--this is what I'm looking forward to:
Dork.
This is why we can't have nice things.
